Disconnecting to avoid death

Recommended Posts

The main server logs when you login and logout. If it detects you doing this too many times in a short space' date=' it will warn you when you login. If it continues to detect this, then it will punish you by killing your character.

This is fantastic! I personally don't mind too much if I die. That just means I made a mistake and deserve it. It helps me learn not do that next life. Sure, I don't like losing all my cool loot, but that certainly doesn't mean I can't find it again, that's actually one of, if not the most enjoyable things in DayZ for me.

You are a God among men Rocket! May the Beans be with you!

I just wonder if this system is actually going to work. It's not often gunfights happen up north or out of Elektro/Cherno. I can still see tons of people disconnecting during PvP and not getting punished.

Too many kiddies lately disconnecting so they don't lose their "uber cool 1337 loot"

im not sure its technically possible with current engine but something similiar to how UO did it might work. You would need to set up a camp (or some other activity) that takes about 30 seconds before logging out.

this. uo did it great. it was like 5 or 10 minutes where you stayed logged in if you didn't use a bedroll and make a fire to log out, and the process for setting up a safe camp was about 20 seconds.

totally should add bedrolls, or use tents for this purpose.

I say leave it as it is for now, till you find a perfect solution, becuase right now, any suggestion was worst than the exploit.

logging in and out is verry common when choosing a server, or stuck at it, or looking for daylight, friend cant log ect ect, this is too retarded.

the time counter is still pretty messed up, unlike other mmo's there is no safe place here, 2 seconds are enough for you to die 3 times.

other than that that dc's and issues with connections are extremly common even ingame, impleminting any of the ideas above in my opinion will ruin it more than itll fix.

This isnt an mmo, this isnt a normal game, a creactive and very well thought solution should be implemnted only after its perfected out unlike any other thing in the game that can be tested out.

dont hurry with this, as much as the exploit sucks, It would suck houndred of times more to be punished becuase it wasnt well thought.

some us are already punished by the mechine crashes and so on, dont add to our misery

Anything that stops this behaviour is good.

I agree.

Don't half-ass it.

Agreed on the non-half-of-assing it.

Perhaps in the interim, it will be understood that logging off / disconnecting means going to sleep... in the game world.

So as a cool way of implementing the timer, just have the in-game character do the crouch (like looking in your gear menu) for 5-10 seconds, to simulate placing a bed roll and getting into it.

I am sure at some point we will see actual bed-rolls anyways...

Could add a lot to immersion when you are stumbling through the forest and come across 3-4 bed-rolls, did the occupants hear you coming ? Perhaps they ran from their camp for some other reason...

The only reason people thought it was part of the game because there was no penalty for it. However I am quite excited to see this implimented as ppl will dc/rc for position in a battle spawn on ur head and kill u after dying 5 times to u legit :(

I commented on a similar post:

http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7579&pid=70657#pid7065 7

So if you shoot or are engaged.

You activate a 2min aggro timer. With the timer activated, if you disconnect your entity will remain in game. How long it keeps you there is open for the devs to determine. but the idea is... you cant just shoot or be shot at and insta-vanish on D/C. it would give some looting time when you are dead.

No timer active.. you vanish instantly as normal.

Jesus christ' date=' people. Is it not obvious that it is not possible to keep the player on the server? Think about for a few seconds, and you'll see why its not being done this way. You act like this is in the capabilities of the DayZ team to implement, well, they only really have control over spawns, inventory, health, sickness, temperature, and all that other stuff they added. They can't just keep a player in the server.

[/quote']

Dude, of course you cannot keep anyone forcefully on the server. And you don't have to. You can keep their avatar on the server for a period of time even after they logged off.

Perfect solution for those who chicken out of PvP. Will also slow down those who just hop servers. But here is another idea to stop that exploit too.

Make players spawn exactly where they logged off only if they log back in on the same server. If it is a different server they went, make them spawn on outskirts of the nearest city/village that is closest to their last log off place.

I don't know why' date=' but people are assuming that I think this is part of the game.

It's not. I posted in a thread that was talking about that, that META-GAMING is explicitly allowed. I.e. infiltrating teamspeak servers and groups etc...

Disconnecting to avoid death IS an exploit.

It will be patched out, very easily, in a future update. The update is ready to go and will be released when the Beta patch for ArmA2 is out.

can you at least make zombiers slower cos this speed and movement is totaly unrealistic. i mean if i have ammo and a gun i should be able to take out infected citizen. like this they run incredible fast and cant be shot cos they warp in in zig zag line. than even if you try to hide in building they warp in through walls and floors and i also had one situation when they ate me through wall and i couldnt shoot him cos he was behind wall just appearing when taking attack on me. i never disconnected while pvp battle but zombies impossible to kill cos of their speed and ability to penetrate walls seem to be little stupid so i do it. and if there is more than 2 zombies say goodbye cos they r warping and eating you alive. dont take this as hate mate just some healty critics on zombies and their role in game. have a nice day and ofc thanks for all dedicated work on mod. greetings from croatia

Before thinking to fix this issue, you should fix the game before, and i guess it will take a while. While it is lame to disconnect to avoid to die, it's super lame to die because of a game bug. Ppl disconnects because:

- Fair PvP is not possible. Lag plays an important role into this and win/loose is a lottery. Did you ever died suddendly while shooting two magazines at your opponent? Or the opposite.

- Zombies with impossible speed or acceleration, zombie that passes through the walls, that can attack you behind a door or even through the floor.

Ppl dies because of the game, not because of their lack of skill, so they disconnects to not end into the frustration of being killed by someone warping the map and killing you without you can do anything about it. We'll wait for those fix... then we think how to avoid those other problems.

I am not entirely sure most of those problems can be fixed...

As it stands you will never be on a fair playing field in PVP, that is just the nature of the internet. Someone out there will always have a faster connection, or closer location to the server.

What might be a 'fix' for you could end up ruining some else's experience.

The warping zombies I feel your pain, I did see that there are new zombie animations in the pipe-line, so just patience is required there

Talking about the ping/lag issue, i'm fine with any modern FPS (ie: BF3), so i don't pretend any definitive solution, but just to be on pair with them. Atm we're far from those standards. I would love to fire back at someone that engages me, and i wouldn't blame (if not myself) to die if my opponent is more skilled than me, but i can't see me dying because of a poor netcode, that's not fun, there's no challenge, it's pure luck.. if i wanted a lucky game i were playing the casino arcade games.

Warping zombies and unrealistic behavior too.. they'll be fixed, i hope soon...

So again: until they fix the game, we can't talk about the "quitting" issue, because atm quitting is not a strategy/exploit.. it is almost a necessity, unless you're a rambo-player that likes to respawn 50 times per day.

Disconnectors make me mad, and they are prolific!

Im happy to take some kind of playability hit in order to provide some disincentives for the dishonorable.

I concur with the people advocating for the 30+ second timer before allowing the player to disconnect. There are many legitimate reasons why a player might need to disconnect in rapid succession, especially in this stage of the mod, for instance when getting stuck in 'debug forest'. I've spawned into a server 'dead' before but with 9000+ blood, so I had to disconnect and join another server and then it was fine.

I don't know I just think the disconnect timer has little repercussions for legit players, whereas the rapid disconnection could affect quite a few legit people.

Can they simply make it so if the Player has Aggro on a Zombie then the player can not abort? Could this be placed on the Player Character's behavior code or heartbeat script?

i agree to some extent, but it really, really needs to be done carefully as was said earlier...

earlier today i logged in, and apparently as i was loading, another player happened upon me. as i entered the game world, someone was in the middle of an assault rifle burst and i was already down to half health and bleeding before even the location text sprang up.

if half of the ideas in this topic had already been implimented, i would have died simply because i logged in at the wrong moment on the wrong server. I'm all for stopping people running away from a firefight, but there are so many problems that could arise from each idea, and could potentially ruin what is an amazing mod (heck, game!)

If its possible to implement, I do think a timer before a disconnect is a more even-handed solution to this. MMOs have been doing it for years because it works. I know that personally, at 2AM when my ISP does maintenance (also my prime play time) my net connection gets extremely flaky and I DC and reconnect all the damn time.

Ok. But what should I do if my fav server is down and I'm starting to search other one with the same settings (veteran + 3dp view)? I mean connect to server, login, check the crosschair, tags, markers on the map - if something of this exist I'm logout and disconnect.

Is there going to be some way to get rid of aggored zombies (other than shooting them) reliably? I accidentally aggroed some zombies and threw a smoke grenade, which distracted them for a few minutes. I ran a few hundred feet and then went prone, which I assumed would make the zombies lose me. However, once the smoke dissipated they started running at me again, even though I was lying prone in thick underbrush and not making any noise. This needs to be fixed, because right now there is only one way to escape zombies, and that is killing them. The distractions like tin cans and smoke grenades need to actually WORK.

I don't mind dying that much, sure it's annoying to lose your stuff, but it's the struggle for supplies that put your into the danger zone, which is the thing that creates this game's atmosphere imho. I'd rather see something done about the long wait times and the respawning in the state just before you died last time (without changing servers)

It's annoying to have to wait 5-10 minutes to die again from bleeding out and having to start the wait again. I think, that is the bigger problem right now. People will find to avoid deaths somehow anyway.
