I've followed your guides (actually a combination of both suggestions) and finally I can load from a server without the CTD however instead of instantly CTD at the end of getting data I find myself stuck an an endless loading screen. Seems I've managed to jump out of a boiling pot into another boiling pot...'

Edit

Been up against this for 17 hours straight and still pretty much where i started, gonna sleep and hope for better dayz tomorrow...

more details here if anyone is interested:

Paste the BattleEye folder in the main arma 2 oa directory.

Should read "Paste the BattleEye folder in the main arma 2 directory."

---

Other than that worked perfectly! FYI this was with ARMA 2 free.

Thank you very much Spiritreader. I've spent 6 hours this evening trying to nail down the issues I've been having and your walk-through successfully had me into DayZ. Cheers mate

Thank me, too, but especially say thanks to Rammfisch providing a solution which i simply complemented and extended.

He was the one who made it possible to play again, i just did my part because i wanna help people!

Have a nice day

To assist Rammfisch a little bit while he'll sleep:

First of all: Sorry that it took so long for me to respond, it took some time to write this all down! And please remember that it is a very long, but clearly structured post and if everything will work, you normally should be able to play DayZ again. (i do not guarantee anything though)

I provide more possible solutions (this includes what I did to get working [remember that i sticked to Rammfisch very very closely!])

If you have any problems

Read this first and read it entirely before doing anything. I can tell you in advance. it MAY not work. On the other hand it may work. So i would recommend trying it! ;)

My suggestion is to start the procedure provided by Rammfisch again, but i will change it a little bit.

You do the following steps:

Quote by Rammfisch:
- Go to your arma 2 oa folder > open Expansion > open BattlEye and run the uninstall.exe
- Go to your arma 2 folder > open BattlEye and run the uninstall.exe (if it isn't there, don't worry about it)

Even if you've deinstalled BattlEye, sometimes its still present in the system. Go to the control panel -> software and remove any BattlEye related entries (they start with battleye *cpt. obvious*)

Right after that go ahead with this:

Start the regular OA without beta (i got Arma 2 OA v1.60.8xxxx.) If this is the same you can go ahead. If not, make sure you have a full version patch not a beta patch! (for those who didn't know yet Version number is located at the bottom right of your screen if you are seeing the main menu)

After this start the beta which does currently not work for you (without battleye of course because you did the steps posted in the code above) and try to join a server with battleye enabled which you are sure it has battleye enabled. You should be able to get in the lobby in some cases. Even if Rammfisch mentioned that you should not be able to get into a lobby it did not affect my result: being able to join into DayZ again.

Then close it.

Now continue with the following step:

Quote by Rammfisch:
- [...] go back into your arma 2 oa folder > Expansion and delete the beta.

Install beta patch 94700 if you have 1.60.8xxxx and if 1.61.xxxxx is present find a version which includes a "on install" Battleye. Install BattlEye as soon as the installer for it pops up. If it doesnt, you've done something wrong i guess.

If everything went fine, go ahead!

Else if you get stuck, to be honest. I do not know what to do then... Recommending Arma 2 reinstall would be the first suggestion.

After having battleye installed, go into OA Main folder -> extensions and COPY the battleye folder.

Then PASTE it in the OA Main folder!

Check again if its present at both locations.

Then do this step:

.

Quote by Rammfisch:
- Go into your arma 2 folder > go into BEsetup and run the .exe (If it isnt there you needn't to install it)

Now start Arma 2 OA/CO (CO if you have Direct 3D error or sth like this) and join a server which does NOT have:

- BattlEye enabled

- Any mods (including DayZ) enabled

To make sure that battleye is disabled, go to filter and set "battleye required" to NO.

Then click on a server having a green icon and make sure it really does not have BattlEye enabled (its listed in the descriptions below the server browser. Btw it is not the crossed out BE icon which represents your filter settings, it is a text information)

Some may refuse to be joined because of "Waiting for Host" or "Logging in" Just try to find another one with a green icon and join it until you find one.

NORMALLY it now should work and you arma 2 OA/CO should not crash!

(If so, i really would recommend reinstalling you arma 2 because its very likely that sth. is wrong with you entire game, not only with DayZ. [this is an assumption im making but i do not believe it is fixable then. Just reinstall entire Arma 2 and use SixLauncher to add DayZ )

Congratulations if it works!

You are one step closer to a working DayZ.

Install beta patch 94876 (if having 94700 installed no battleye message will show up).

Now open this path (only for Win Vista/7) C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\BattlEye and delete the BattlEye.dll in it!

So now there is only one thing to do

Launch Arma 2 with DayZ (I did not test this though)

or (this worked for me!!):

Open Sixlauncher if you installed it and press update.

After completing this you should be able to play DayZ again.

A very nice day / nice evening to all you guys out there.

Spiriteader

Re-installed clean ArmA 2 OA and done all the steps above. I can login but I still got constant kick due to BattlEye: Client not Responding. Grr... Hope this bug can be fixed soon. I tried many... many ways but that error message kept appearing. It's irritating. Anyway, thanks for the great tutorial, Ramm and Spirit. For those who have the OA not responding error, this is the solution :), but for something like my error, it doesn't work. :( Hope to have the new patch to fix this soon. @_@

My copy was working six hours ago, now this just pops up out of nowhere? W...T...F...?

I've followed these steps and can only follow them verbatim until I have to launch the game. It crashes to desktop at every instance of attempting to launch.

Have tried all other steps anyway with no change, guess I'll try the ol' reinstall method.

THIS IS PISSING ME OFF was working fine this morning then all of a sudden this shit, I've tried everything mentioned but I still can't stop this game from crashing to desktop, WTF!?

Isn't there any other solution to get this going again, I blame that fraking beta patch because ever since I've installed it, I have been getting shit ever since!!!!

Tried reversing beta patches but like everyone else that tries reverting, you get a long wait for the loading screen then a middle finger followed by a crash when on the menu!!!

I really would like to play again....................................!! DevS?!!!?

I had/have this problem, I tried all the solutions I could find and it just wouldnt fix so I assume its got to do with something with the lastest patch/beta. So I installed a fresh copy of windows 7 64bit (hopefully cleaned out any bad registry files that may have caused the problem) and im downloading Arma again fresh, Ill try update the game again with the next release instead of risking another buggy patch.

I have tried every step, though it does absolutely nothing to fix the issue. When I launch Arma 2 OA without mods after installing 94700 and 1.61 I crash even when joining normal servers. I completely deleted the game about 4 hours ago, downloaded it and reinstalled with absolutely no change. I've spent 12 hours trying to get my game working again since the 1.7.2 update.

This is really depressing

I understand all steps and completed them twice with no results. I have tried every combination of 1.7.2.3, recent betas and battle eve versions available.

I've tried everything in this thread, and probably a half a dozen other threads with no results.

At one point I got it to crash before starting the game, so that's a change in SOME direction.

I'm back to crashing upon loading into the server.

I know it's an alpha but it's incredibly frustrating to not be able to play it.

This problem I don't believe is caused by DayZ, so I personally wouldn't blame the dev's. I find that the problem seems to occur due to a faulty beta install. When updating from 1.60 to 1.61 (≤ 94700 to ≥ 94945), many people find 1.61 to be faulty, so they revert to 1.60. Doing this update to 1.61 installs a new client and server .dll of BattlEye, when reverting back to 1.60 it screws up the entire system and you have different files from different beta patches all over the joint. Not just in Arma 2 and OA but also in other hiden folders in your user folder. So I believe the CTD is due to a problem with the beta.

Where do you think I should go from here?

Just wait until the next beta is released?

Uninstall everything?

Quit attempting to play Dayz and go on a real life murderous rampage?

The last option sounds ideal. But honestly you will be able to get it working, you just need to make sure you're doing everything correctly. Honestly what I'd do, is delete DayZ, delete small folders and files (anything under about 40Mb). This just gives it a bit of a better clean up than a complete uninstall. Once this is done, start Steam as Admin and verify the game cache to download those files you just deleted. Then install a fresh copy of beta 94876 and run the game at least once in normal Arma. Then download DayZ and join a DayZ server. (Make sure you empty recycle bin when you delete the files from arma 2).

finally after 3 days it worked. this 1 fucking file. good work

Registered to come in this thread and thank you. Been going through alot of pain the last two days trying to fix this error.

What finally fixed it for me was...

I tried everything before this and was still crashing. Deleting this file made the game work for me again (after going through the other steps too but I had done those numerous times).

You probably can't manually direct to the folder so you will have to paste the location into explorer and edit your username. I hope this helps!

So THANKS. And to anyone still having problems make sure you completed that step.

I just redid everything, played arma2, worked, played CO, worked, but when I load into a server it says ArmA 2 OA has stopped working.

So I'm guessing I need to try reinstalling OA.

Well I have noticed something else, when I use the 94876 beta is when the client crashes when loading(ArmA 2 REINFORCEMENTS has stopped working), if I use the most recent one it just sits at waiting for host, as if I'm connected to the server.

First I couldnt join any server because of "Bad Player name" (no reason for it) - 1.7.2.3 94945

"Solved" by downgrading to 94876. Instead, game started crashing.

And this didnt work for me.

EDIT: I also did that:

Whoever is still having this issue just replace BEClient.dlll in this location - "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\BattlEye" with the correct version from here http://www.battleye.com/download.html

And that worked. I can play again! Thanks!
