Less sway when walking while aiming down sights!

Having handled an assault rifle in the army myself under various training conditions, I can honestly say that even a weakling like me would not swing the gun around that much when carefully trying to peak a corner.

I encourage any gun owners right now to aim down sights of their unloaded gun and slowly sidestep - this will not cause the gun to swing around a lot from left to right to the extent it does in game.

 

Personally I would suggest reducing this left to right swing by about 30-50% in order to make peaking viable and realistic.

I'm going to assume since you claim to have experience in the army (No disrespect intended, people just like to claim things like this sometimes without it being true), that you know that different conditions would effect how much a gun swings/sways. You suggest gun owners go out and test out how much their gun swings when they sidestep, however they haven't been lugging around tons of lbs of gear, nor have they been running constantly, they aren't under the same stress as a survivor of a zombie apocalypse, and they haven't been running/jogging constantly for awhile with minimum breaks. If you take the time to reduce your characters fatigue however you should notice that the sway is reduced significantly, you just can't be running or jogging for extended periods of time.

 

Now, just to be safe, if you are talking about when your character is in fact rested, then I don't have any clue as to what to say.

I think they were referring to the sway just when moving, which is present regardless of your stamina level. In this case I agree. I remember a while ago they lowered the movement speed when you had a weapon out, saying that a civilian wouldn't be trained to keep a steady shot while moving and thus would have to move slower to maintain accuracy. Then shouldn't A. The sway be kept and movement speed restored, or B. The sway be reduced and movement speed br kept? It seems silly and unrealistic to me to apply multiple realism balances where only one should be applied.

But related to your comment I think that having the sway after running is completely reasonable. Maybe it should be reduced by a little, but there's no way you could make an accurate shot after sprinting a kilometer or so in full military equipment, especially as an untrained civilian.

Now that you say that, I get what jayfkay was saying, thanks (Can't believe I didn't get that at first, overthinking at it's best). But yeah, the sway is a little outrageous when you're just walking around with the gun raised. I mean, it obviously shouldn't be perfect, but it's a little absurd.

I am all about fine tuning. When you are fully rested, aiming down sight, and strafe walking, the sway is too much imo.

Reproduce similar movement with a gun of your choice and you would agree. You are already moving at a really really slow pace when doing that, your gun should be pretty steady. this is achievable without much strength or training. IRL you could even sidestep faster and still not swing as much, tahts what your muscles are for - evening out the imbalance caused by movement.

You can go pretty fast IRL without much sway. Move your feet so they don't rise much kind of like you would be almost levitating above the ground. It fatigues but you can go stabile about jogging speed for short bursts or naturally just go slower for long time. Just watch some CQB training videos how people move and try it yourself. It should come naturally and you don't need train for that. On uneven ground it gets different.

Just about every time sway has been mentioned on this forum it has been regarding the sway after sprinting, which is not what this thread is discussing.
