Sidearm Wielding Stance

Recommended Posts

In much earlier versions of DayZ, when you held a sidearm/pistol you would do so with two hands. They changed that, and now you only need one.

I think some sort of toggle between the two difference 'stances' would and could be beneficial.

Let's say you are raiding a house that you know a fellow survivor is held up in. If your gun wasn't raised (but you still knew someone was there), you would not hold the gun with one hand. That seems rather unprepared I must say. But if you were to toggle the way you held the gun when not raised, and you were using both hands it would have some attributes. You could raise the weapon faster, perhaps?

Seems like something people could use.

Thoughts?

Interesting thought but, realistically, your off hand should never leave the weapon, save when reaching for an object, or softly opening a door. As for raising the weapon faster with one hand, at least in my case, it hasn't worked that way, with one hand, most people try to raise and push out, kinda like a one handed, asymmetrical stance, which at least for me, takes more time. With the Weaver stance ( stance I use in shooting ), I find reaction time to be far better with both hands on the weapon.

Though this idea still has some merit, say your arm is broken/disabled, you could adopt a one hand stance, or maybe if your leg is broken, using one hand and good leg to push yourself backwards while addressing the threat with your other hand, would be a nice step of realism.

I like the one handed stance. The idiots don't notice the gun in your hand that you murder them with.

Exactly, both hands on your firearm greatly increases your grip to prevent someone from disarming you. In a breach and clear scenario, going room to room and sweeping two hands steadies your aim and your able to hold it closer to your body to prevent a grab for your weapon.

As an off note I realized that humanity is failing me. Some people at the hunting club got a Springfield XD45 and were about 40 feet away during at an old realtor sign that was dumped in the ditch they use as a target. It looked like someone shot it with birdshot all over after 2 people. I took it and emptied the mag into the 0 in the phone number, the zero was basically gone.

But its the pistols fault -_-

Only if the pistol has the name, Bryco, Jennings, Jahmenz, Taurus, Raven or Phoenix, on the side

I like the idea. In general think the new stance is more beneficial and I would not want to artificially add advantages or disadvantages (there might be some but justified). Though chancing stances could serve as body language and by personal preference also affect your characters general pose. Also stances might work fine with other game mechanics like melee (e.g. knife grips) and bayonets.

Haven't played for two or three weeks, but aren't there actually TWO pistol stances? Just like there are two rifle stances. When you press your "weapon down key", the pistol goes into the right hand only. When you aim (i.e. go into iron sight stance), the pistol-wielding hand is raised and supported by the other hand. Why would you need a THIRD pistol stance beside "in one hand while walking" and "aiming and ready to fire"? The transition between "one hand" and "aiming with two hands" is already quite quick.

Fortunately they've removed the very rediculous stance "running with a pistol held with both hands in front of you" in DayZ. Unfortunately, "they" (other people) refuse to remove that very rediculous and unrealistic stance from Arma 3 (running with both hands holding pistol in front of you and pointing downwards).

Why not just spawn with a random variation.

Each life you get you randomly get stuck with a stance or variation.

Each life you get you randomly get stuck with a stance or variation.

That could work, so long as it's cosmetic and has no actual effect on your aiming ability.

Otherwise they should just do the stance type system of ArmA 3 where you can choose which one to use.
