Legend of The Cherno Spawn - A Tail of Tribulation

Recommended Posts

I don't record most of my gameplay since I have a weaksauce PC so i thought i'd share this story from today's session. (this is as short as i could get the story)

So our story begins with my friend Dylan and I and his friend Max. Neither of them had played DayZ so i had my hands full showing them the ropes. We were going to meet up in Elektro but Max was killed by someone with a Winchester 70; we were close enough to hear the shot. We moved in through a grassy alleyway, guns drawn trying to sneak up on where we thought the shots came from. A crack responds in our cramped alley, Dylan's body goes limp behind me. "Tanner run! I'm dead" I get to my feet and ran to the nearest Hot Dog Building and stood on the side opposite to where i thought the fire came from. A Winchester shot I hear a winchester shot behind me to the and to the right, a near miss. Before I can run to the other side of the building I am Shot prompt in the back, "you are dead". My friends disheartened from the events log off, their first DayZ experience cut short. I don't though, I vow revenge against this bandits.

A lucky spawn South of Electro. Unable to find my body in Elektro i figure the bandits must have hid It and begin trying to find a weapon. At the fire station i grab an axe and search the upper tower; the screen flashes. Blood starts to geyser from my right leg, i immediately hit the deck hoping it would save me from the follow up execution shot, it did. Leg broken and nowhere to go i use the wall glitch in the station to get onto the ladder, luckily it was on the opposite side of where the shot came from. I scope out the area from the top of the tower. Turning towards the shore i see someone with a gun and an improvised backpack running to the blue crane to climb up it, "that's our man" I climb down leg still broken trying to find a rag to make a splint. A fresh spawn in the distance, another lucky break. i signal the freshie down and try to haggle a rag out of him, after refusing to give me one he decides to attack me. at this point the town is alight with gunfire all around us. A swift axe blow to his head from a crouching position promptly drops him. A Few curses at him and a mended leg later i set out back on my original mission. "Hey friend!" a geared man yells as he runs by, i run after him and flag him down. pistol in hand him-"what do you need?" Me-"well sir, me a friends recently got killed here by some snipers and i'd like to enlist your help in dropping those assholes." Him-"Oh those must have been my friends" *raises pistol* two .45 rounds to my chest. You are Dead.

Cherno spawn. After gearing up for awhile i come under sniper fire again as i make my way back to Elektro. I turn around and head back into the city then head to the guard house hoping to find a makarov mag. I find two and a friendly man with an axe, we talk for awhile trying to figure out where the more recent gunshots came from; pondering whether it could be a hacker since the gun shots seemed to come from all sides. I decide leave our relative safety and draw some fire. I hear shots but none at me, I see some large silo's i hadn't noticed before. "that must be it" i head toward them, low and behold a man with a mosin and a motorcycle helmet cones round the corner. Makarov vs. Mosin + Desync. i chase him around a train but somehow he gets a shot on me without turning. I look behind me to see that i was following his Desync clone. i run in closer unloading a mag onto him, two rounds hit his arm fracturing it. We both run. I bandage up and look around for the guy, he's nowhere to be found. i go back to where he originally appeared and find a hunting backpack with a magnum, sawed off shotgun, and .357 in it.... yet another lucky break it seemed. reinvigorated with my new swagnum i head out side and snoop around to the sound of more gunshots. I see a guy..... winchester....... improvised backpack...... i found the sonofabitch.

He's sees me following and turns a corner, Since i'm not an idiot i know he will be waiting for me to come around the corner. I pop round the corner and pop back to bait a shot, it works and he misses. Realizing he is screwed he runs for it, serpentining. I fire five rounds two hitting him in the legs breaking them. i run to the corner of the same building as him. reload, he just lays there with his gun pointed at my corner, being the idiot i am I poke around the corner and miss my shot, he hits my leg. In a brilliant move he rolls to the side, coupled with my wobbly aim and colorless screen i fire again. I wasn't sure if it hit or not he fires once more killing me. I curse myself outwardly for being so unbelievably stupid. I had but one hope left.

THE LEGENDARY CHERNO SPAWN!. It actually happened i spawned just north of cherno by the apartments, I couldn't tell if my luck was good or bad at this point. I was more determined now than ever, armed with nothing but my fists i sprint to the ass end of chero, expertly changing the battery in my mouse along the way. I swear my guy ran faster than i have ever seen him run before! 'if i hurry i can still catch him with his pants down" rounding the corner where our gunfight took place i see him. still on the ground crawling about like the reptile he was. He sees me and I hide behind a building. I knew what i had to do. Rushing him and zig zagging like i had never done before i close in. he holds his fire waiting for the perfect moment to make the shot. he fires. he misses. THIS WAS IT! I got in and unloaded a flurry of Jabs so fierce that even Tyson would have soiled himself, switching to FPS view to better place my fists of fury. His head drops and seize the opportunity, dragging all of his gear onto me. I did it. I unleashed a flurry of curses at him so foul it would have made Satan blush, scolding him for his killing fresh spawns and being a general dick. I retreat into a warehouse, take out my new Model 70, take aim, and fire. Spilling his blood with the very same weapon he spilled my friend's, mine, and many others with. Hiding behind some cargo containers i check the loot. A hunting scope, a smersh vest, hell.....fucking......yes. The man with the mosin had returned, his gunshots getting closer and closer to my building i could only assume they were together. I felt that i had pushed my luck and a logged the hell out.

That's it, I did it. I got my sweet revenge. What followed was a straight high of euphoria and pride dancing around my room and yelling about my badassery i celebrated with my friends chowed down on animal crackers and downed an ice cold victory beer.

Was it worth in the end? Hell yes. I might have lost most of my stuff but the fact that i punched out that fully geared asshole, the anguish he must have felt gave me so much content, the avenging of my friends, The smersh vest, and of course the hunting scope. The thing i spent hours and hours searching for to no avail finally in my clutches.

Moral of the story karma is a bitch, and sometimes that bitch karma is on your side, use it to the best of your abilities!

So you combat logged when his friend came?

I just heard his mosin shots in the distance and they seemed to be getting closer so i decided then would be a good time to take my stuff and get out. i never actually saw him a second time.

Oh don't step all over the guy's hero moment. I'm glad it felt good man. It was certainly payed for in plenty of blood. maybe you had to sleep or go to work or something, just remember next time your victim might have friends or lucky respawns, and might have dreams of revenge too. By logging off, you're denying them that same hunt you so enjoyed.

Your only mistake was not staying in the server long enough to get killed and lose all of that guys gear.  You have an implicit moral obligation to stay in the server whenever you hear gunshots, until you are shot dead or kill the other guy.  In fact, even if you don't hear gunshots, but suspect that another player is within 5 kM, it is your solem duty to remain online until you cross paths and one of you ends up dead; even if it takes all night.  Just remember, whenever you are not in a server, you are singlehandedly breaking the game for everybody else.  How can you be so callous as to not leave your toon online 24/7, AFK if need-be, so that one of the many KOS players can get a slight chub from putting you down?  You sir, disgust me.

Not necessarily, but he shouldn't brag about killing some dude back and forth, getting his gear, then logging when he hears another dude -possibly- close by.

It is "combat-logging" if you log out when you hear shots, and want to avoid contact. The OP did both.

There is NEVER a point in-game when you can't sprint the 30 seconds it takes to get to the woods, and log there.

I have no issue with people needing to log off, and sometimes you need to log in the middle of combat (usually girlfriend/wife demand related). However the OP said, and I quote,

"The man with the mosin had returned, his gunshots getting closer and closer to my building i could only assume they were together. I felt that i had pushed my luck and a logged the hell out."

He didn't need to log off to sleep, eat or meet his girlfriend (who he said he'd take for dinner at 8pm, and it's now 9pm and he's not even dressed and he has 9 missed calls on his phone...) he logged off because he thought he'd probably get killed and didn't want to lose the new gear he'd got. That's combat logging, and that's what I find a little annoying. The guy with a broken leg could have logged off and switched to an empty sever to apply a splint in safety, but didn't. So right now I have more respect for the killer.
