clothing dyes and more weapon paint.

Recommended Posts

I think it would be cool to be able to find or make clothing dyes so you can customize your character more if only for a short while. also more weapons should be paintable and more colored spray paint avaliable.

Perception must be your dump stat (no offense ;) ):

  1. There is a suggestions subforum...
  2. ...where things like this were suggested multiple times and in more depth.
  3. Procedural gun coloring was announced a while ago.
  4. Limited dyeing of clothes is in experimental.
  5. There is a search function to find out all that.

Though I am all for more options here (and also for spraypainting walls and other world objects). Especially the gun procedure might also be usable to give your character different hair/eye colors and skin tones as well.

Yea, but it's not really useful. xD So, far, only armbands and t-shirts have been color-able. :P

True, but the hardest part of programming that would be actually getting things to colour, afterwards it's in theory simple to apply that to different items, so we should expect to see more soon

I am completely fine with bright colors and even simple patterns (not nearly as elaborate as the one above and probably limited to two or three colors). However, it should be applied ingame - apply background, create template - with all the resources needing to be found and spent. Effort is the key here - not everyone should run around with a highly customized item but people who really want to and are willing to put some work into it should be able to do so.

"Breaking the immersion" of the "reality is dull and green or brown" crowd is not an argument unless the customization in question is way too easy to get. Heavy customization should not be something you just do along the way but something you really need to put a lot of work into. As such it might make for a creative "end game" feature.

I don't doubt that. However, it's not necessarily hard but time consuming due to the effort needed to get it mostly right. ^-^

It's not really a suggestion, but still I shall move it to that section.

If you think about it, there's literally no reason why all of what you suggested is going to come. There's just no available developer / designer time for it right now. The single most important thing is already done. It works. Just not with every colour, but that's a relatively minor thing to add, seeing as the base functionality already exists.
