Mil Surp weapons for civilians

Recommended Posts

I know this has been suggested before but not in the way I wanted it to be. wouldn't it be cool if you could find ww2 mil surp guns like the ppsh 41, svt 40, mp40, kar 98k, luger p08, tt tokarev, nagant 1895, dp 28, Thompson smg, m1 garand, m1 carbine, etc?  it would be nice if these spawned in civilian locations in an obtainable manner that would add more variety than just getting sniped by an akm or an sks.

WWII weaponry. I like the idea but a lot of different calibers and some might not fit. I don't think that U.S. sent surplus weapons to Russia after the war. I think they went to other countries but the other ones, maybe. MP40 and Kar 98K would be a stretch but the rest sound plausible.

Could be cool, but realistically how would they have ended up in Chernarus? Also many have unique calibers so the devs will likely not add most of them.

Maybe once modding is in a few servers will have WWII full conversions with weapons, vehicles, and clothing of the era...

The P38, Mosin and C96 are already in game. I don't see any problem with adding more WW2 style weapons; I would love to see uniforms from that era, as well.

uniforms would be cool. 3 of the suggested weapons use 7.62x25mm tokarev. 2 weapons use 7.62x54mmr. one weapon uses .45acp. 2 more use 9mm. those weapons could be added with the addition of one caliber. carbine and garand might have to stay out.

Besides the 7.62x25mm guns, you'd actually have to leave out the Nagant 1895, KAR-98, M1 Garand, and M1 Carbine from that list if you're not going to add any new calibers - the 1895 uses 7.62x38mmR, not 7.62x25mm, and no production variants of it use the tokarev round either (even though it'd be a good weapon to have.) The KAR-98 is a 7.92 gun and although like the Nagant it's plausible there's not a whole lot of utility to adding the round. The M1 Garand and Carbine aren't really realistic anyway.

MP40s and Luger P08s are acceptable but they'd need to be extremely rare like the Red 9 is because they're just not as common nowadays. Lugers simply weren't deployed as often as P38s were (just like the C96, although I don't think the Red 9 was even used in WW2 to any significant degree) and so they're a lot harder to find. MP40s were somewhat common (not as common as they're made out to be) but chances are most SMGs would be taken from civilians and the government had no use for MP40s, so very few of them made it in Eastern Europe.

The rest of the guns are fine.

M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson, and DP-28 I would rather not, the rest are okay, but 8x57, 7.62 TT and 7.62 Nagant cartridges are unlikely to be added so that, unfortunately, rules out those three in the foreseeable future. I would like many more recent 9mms and other handguns added before implementing YET another old German pistol so Luger is out for me. MP40 is something that could be stashed in a cache, in the walls or floorboards, in a barn, etc, but it would be odd without ever finding PPSh or PPS in the same places. Most of these weapons are okay by themselves but they need to keep an overall balance in the weapons list, putting even half these in right now would make disproportionately WW2. On this subject, they showed us a Gewehr 98 in early alpha screenshots, I wonder what happened to it. Perhaps it was never made or intended for DayZ in the first place.

I bet you it became the mosin.

one thing I noticed is that people complain about automatic weapons in the hands of noobs compared to semi or bolt weapons. ive been killed by a Winchester or mosin more so than an ak or m4 wherever I went. adding more autos to coastal towns and cities and more clips wouldn't be as chaotic as one might think. usually they would waste it on the first guy they see and be out of ammo. recently ive been trying to snipe on the rocks in kamy with an aks 74u and its a lot harder than with an sks or mosin or Winchester. furthermore when I go in house to house with an automatic weapon I have been killed by sks' and mosins and lesser guns.

The P1, Red 9, Mosin, SKS and 1911 already all fulfill this role of surplus guns in civilian hands. Whilst a PPS-43 or something along those lines would be nice to have in game, it would wreck as an SMG and I thus wouldn't support it in civilian spawns. But ruined vehicles and military spawns? Bring on in the PPSh41 as an SMG that can only be carried on the back.

M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson, and DP-28 I would rather not

I don't really see how a DP-28 would be any less likely than an MP40 - they still saw use into the 1960s with the Soviets and actually have been showing up in present day conflicts unlike the MP40 which is rarely seen. Granted the RP-46 probably makes more sense than the DP-28 and DPM itself and at that point it's no longer a WW2 weapon and no longer has the drum magazine so it ruins the point, but still, it's not really a bad weapon to have.

Indeed. The DP would be a colorful and interesting weapon to have, especially in a world of Belt-fed GPMGs.

I could totally see it spawning in Insurgent camps, in a long-forgotten weapons locker in a Military base, or stashed under some bales of hay in a Barn.

It just seems more plausible to me than an MP40 - plus with the ArmA 2 insurgency in Chernarus being modeled off of a lot of these Balkan and Eastern European guerrilla conflicts it makes a lot of sense - DP-28s and DPMs have been spotted quite around a lot, and that's not to mention the RP-46s that are in second-line service in many places. On the other hand, there aren't that many MP40s making appearances (both because they're less common and because they have less utility in those situations than MGs do.)

Not that I'd mind either - the MP40 is an interesting design, but there are plenty of more realistic 9x19mm SMGs like it. The DP, on the other hand, is a very unique weapon and even though guns like the PK and whatnot would be more common, they're far different.

Still, both would be cool.

There are a bunch of other machine guns I'd rather see, you just named one (RP-46), and front of that there are:

-RPD

-RPK

-RPK-74

-PK, PKM

-even PKP

and that's just Soviet, not mentioning various similar weapons from NATO and others. The devs seem reluctant to place in even a single "proper" machine gun and we certainly won't have 5, 6, 7 or more of them chewing through that list until we reach DP-28. Why DP-28 in the first place? Because it's unusual with that pan mag? No reason for it to take the place of any more deserving weapon. Whereas MP 40, there aren't any obvious 9x19 SMG choices for it to punt out of the game. Chernarussian police "adopting" MP5K with RAK spawning there as well already shoved the standard MP5 off the weapons list plus a lot of other potential SMGs. MP 40 seems slightly unusual in 2015 but it's unusual to find any SMG in someone's house. I noticed it seemed among some "common" SMGs seized by police in East Europe are PPSh, PPS-43, MP 40 although all less common than AKs and many other weapons. I don't really support MP 40 but done right I can't really complain either.

With all things considered, yes, there are far better MGs that should come first, but I'm not so sure that the devs are reluctant to have MGs at all but moreso are just reluctant to talk about them a whole lot when the planned weapon systems in the future aren't ready to support them.

Out of the PK, PKM, and PKP, I'm pretty much certain without mods we'd only ever get one of those, so let's take the PKM. Both the RPK-74 and RPK could work - considering the ubiquity of the RPK-74 and how little the 5.45mm round sees use you'd be better to pick it (the AKM drum will just be stuck with it, unfortunately.) Then, for 7.62x39mm you use the RPD. Later in development they add the DPM in some random guerrilla cache just because it's a semi-interesting design.

That's only four MGs in the end there and all of them are completely different. If they wanted to give the AK drum mag some use they could add the RPK and RPK-74M instead of the 74 but that's still only five. With NATO the only thing I'd say is necessary is the M249/FN Minimi - an M240B/G or M60/M60E4 would be interesting but is unnecessary with the PKM.

So really at the most you'd have 5-7 MGs all of different roles, and the DP-28/DPM can still be included just for kicks.

The talk of Machine Guns interests me alot especially for DayZ but while there is alot of talk about the more lighter potentially man portable Machine Guns, what would be many people's responses to a larger Heavy Machine Gun that is vehicle mounted? Of course the most common suggestion for these HMG's would be the Soviet DShk and the American Browning M2 which are seen practically everywhere. We probably wont see them until very late in development if at all, likely when we have Helicopters and Aircraft as well as heavier vehicles and potentially improvised armored vehicles we COULD see them, I'd certainly like them to be included, seems strange you wouldn't find one around.

As for the other Milsurp weapons, I'm all for a Kar98 I do understand that "Sporterised" Kar98's exist and more often in common calibers like .308 and more over I wouldn't put it past the dev's to add in a new caliber once they've added some more dangerous wildlife like bears for example

Mounted MGs like the M1910 and the DSHKm would be cool as would be other mounteds like a small muzzle loading cannon or improvised rockets.

DSHK would be super super super plausible.

It is a simple, rugged weapon system that is all over the world.

The weapon however requires atleast 2 people to move and operate. It is used in this configuration in Afghanistan by the Taliban to take long range pop shots at static targets sometimes to great effect if they know their dope.

Here is a video demonstrating how it is being used all over the world.

Even moreso than being vehicle mounted the DSHK would be ideal in the most common crew served role.

1. One player carrying the gun, one the tripod, one ammo.

2. Deploying it at some distance from the target beyond their weapons usually small arms effective range.

3. Taking pop shots at the static target in dayzs case most likely a player base or homestead.

4. Once you got your dope right the 12.7x108 round will have no problem shredding vehicles and even people inside of structures to shreds.

Of course this would require a totally new crew served weapon mechanic and more advanced interactions potentially a new interaction menu to set up the tripod then mount the gun and finally feed the weapon ammo.

The drawbacks of such a system would be the sheer weight and with the upcoming stamina system it would be a real burden.

It would also require cooperation in order to even get close to remotely using the weapon to good effect.

A person in binoculars , providing feedback to the gunner who is limited to iron sights to get rounds on target. 3 people to even get the weapon set up and good communication throughout.

Overall if the devs really want to they could have a real winner with the dshk but it would require alot of work and new features to be added to the game.
