Government anti-infestation measures

Recommended Posts

Chernorussia is shown as country suffering from zombie outbreak but there are almost no signs of any attempts to prevent the spread of infestation by government. No blockposts near big cities, no quarantine zones, no signs that military tried to stop infected by any means.

As desperate meausure government could also try to use chemical weapons to wipe out infected from completly "lost" cities which could also add new edge into the game. Territories poisoned with chemical weaponry. You could find lots of loot there and no zombies, but you must wear protective gear and gasmask with proper filther to get there safely. Any damage to your gear there could expose you to lethal gases or aerosoles and lead to your slow death. Eating or drinking there is also ill-advised. Protective gear can include military and civilian gasmasks, respirators and NBC suits. Post-soviet and american ones. Some zombies could also wear remnants of that gear and maybe survive in that zones. Antidotes and degasation kits(for cleaning contaminated canned food and clothes) would be useful as well.

Ahem...

Aren't contaminated areas suggested many times before? Some military outposts/quarantine zones would be nice though.

"Some military outposts/quarantine zones would be nice though."

Yeah. I also think military perimeter around map could be good too. It would be not just end of the map but metal fences, guard towers and warning signs. Any attempt to come closer will get you killed by sniper or machinegun fire. Or maybe you would just step on landmine.

There couldn't really be fences and such around the map because the area is just a small portion of the country of Chernarus:D Getting killed by a sniper/machinegun feels kinda "gamey", IMO wouldn't fit this game. By military outposts I meant temporary bases on highways/ maybe Chedaki/querrilla hideouts if we're following the Arma II story.

I'm not sure this is the case at all. Check the evac camp at Start Sobor, clear indication that action is being taken. Myshkino military camp is not a permanent military site but one likely set up as a forward action base (probably as the conventional ones have been overrun) and this is also true for the tents north of NWA. The woods military compound above Severograd has entire pits of bodies. You can find buses across the map that are also near piles of bodies. The military convoy in the far north was probably aid coming in from abroad but never made it very far. To me the map tells a pretty compelling story but it doesn't slap you in the face with it.

Edit: I fully expected this thread to be tinfoil hat libertarian spam when I first clicked. :D

I dunno what you mean by "tinfoil libertarian spam" but the idea of guerilla hideouts, temporary bases e.t.c is interesting enough.

Nope true we see none of that however...

What I do see is a place where the military and local forces were quickly overrun before they could even resort to those measures.

For all we know the military response to the area was extremely limited due to outside areas being overrun first.

I'm hoping for some more remains of miltary presence scattered around Chernarus. Not necessarily all places that spawn loot, but things like abandoned roadblocks and checkpoints, some visual fluff to enhance the atmoshpere.

That actually seems like a pretty reasonable explanation, but then you really have no reason for the NATO UH-1Ys or Chernarus MI-8s to be wrecked around and still smoldering. I can fathom the idea of those just being mobile forces who ended up getting shot down/brought down by onboard infected, but it seems unlikely that they'd actually try to deploy any forces to a rather insignificant region that's already been fully overrun.

Some measures of evacuation or at least the general chaos that would've followed would be nice, and it's not like we need massive military blockades or outposts to do it; they could simply have a large police-ran camp in one of the major cities, perhaps with riot vans and whatnot to indicate they used special police as security instead of the army.

They're already adding in the Stary evac camp. If they add a few more of those things around then that will be sufficient.

I like to think that the "disease" that causes zombification is notin fact, worldwide, but instead localized to Chernarus. The area around Chernarus is being quarantined by NATO/ RF forces, and regularly patrolled via helicopter by NATO/RF Special Forces, which is why we find "awesome" firearms in helicopter crashes. Every so often, the helicopters would fly over Chernarus to scope out the progression of the disease, and when all the "infected" (both the zombies and the players, as the outside forces wouldn't know we were immune) are dead, regular ground forces would move in to make sure the area was clear of infected.

That, at least, explains the burning/smoking helicopters, as well as giving some background lore.

One awesome ideal I had. (Yes I called my own ideal awesome.  I THINK IT IS!  :| )

Would be in hospitals to have a sealed off section.  In there would be a ton of good loot...but also a crap ton of zombies.  The ideal would be that it is the place where they stored the infected.  They could also have a big warning on the door saying "Do not open.  Dead Inside'.  100% original.

Okay joking aside.  I do think a few "high risk.  High Reward" places would be nice...and by high risk I don't mean "you are probably going to get shot".  (looking at your airfeild.)

Indeed the high risk high reward situation should definitly be considered/worked on.. I suggested a while ago about an idea of situations that would have an "area" heavily infested that would require a team to clear to reap the benefits.. i must stress the reward would be anything to grand.. for example

Big Office Block - needs maybe 4 ppl to clear and has a few water coolers and snack machines still filled with goodies on one of the top floors somewhere(random).

Mill / Factory- Has maybe one peice of heavy machinery, a truck, a heap of engine parts, or a stash of petrol and fresh chainsaws to be collected after being liberated from the infected.

I could go on for a while but i wont. Instead I will say this. I hope the hosptal(s) get some love and we can enter those other levels and rooms that are still solid.. the upper level rooms seem out of proportion also, the roof is maybe a few inches above your head.. :o  i dont have a pic
