Map Improvement

Recommended Posts

I feel that the hallmark of a good game is that you don't have to google stuff all the time to play the game.

That being said one large oversite I found is that street signs and the in-game map are in two different languages. Like, I understand that the game is set in Russia or Ukraine or something like that but why are the maps in English

My suggestions is to change the maps to Cyrillic. Just so when you are using the in-game map and comparing it to street signs you can tell where you are without having to leave the game to go to the wiki.

Anyways, thanks for reading. Simple fix for a simple problem.

Ok. Did you have an opinion about maps?

How about having both English and Cyrillic on the map. Otherwise there would be no way for me to verbally explain where I am. It would be as if we were native Cyrillic speakers and the English is just our character translating it. Otherwise I'd have to learn another language, and that's harder than googling.

Steam overlay is a brilliant concept, set the home page to one of any number of DayZ map sites. Giving you both Cyrillic and English city/town names.

Not so hard is it? ;)

yepe, you can even print it if you want or have it on your smartphone thanks to iZurvive.

but the point is, in-game map needs some changes to be useful or to encourage us gather maps in the game.

Play the game long enough and you will never need a map, i can navigate to anywhere without a map and have been doing so without for months now.

I like that idea ^^

it's fairly simple and practicle for new players ^^

that's true (I don't need the map either) but when the game hits beta and later full release, then there will be many people trying it, and it would be better if they had at least a bit ingame help to find out where they are ^^

and to expand on the map-improvements a bit further (since I like the concept) I would suggest, that we get a "look at map"-option without dragging it into the inventory and hotbar, so you can share tactical plans via the maps marking-system more easily ^^

This reply is crazy late and I hope some of you see this but I'm talking about keeping the DayZ experience self enclosed. The steam overlay fixes my problem but it's a stupid problem the devs should fix. The simple fact that I have to pull out of the game to look at a googled map ruins me suspension of disbelief,

You don't have to Google everything, you can remember or learn anything you really need to know. If you think games should be easy then you shouldn't be playing DayZ.

On topic, I agree that the maps should be in the cyrillic alphabet.
