Get off the coast

Recommended Posts

If I had 1 euro every time I've read "get off the coast" on this forum since 0.55 was released, now I would be rich.

- "Get off the coast"
But I like Cherno!

- "Get off the coast"
Can I go to Elektro?

- "Get off the coast"
But I like those cities...

- "GET OFF THE COAST!"
Huh... Okay...

If you don't want players stay on the coast, why all the spawn points are on the coast ? Who came up with the idea of fragmented maps? Isn't it easier to open the browser and goto (for example) DayZDB map?

The map should serve to tell you where you are or mark where you want to go. I don't care if it's a delicate item (wich can be breaked due to a zombie hit) or is hard to find. If you can't locate yourself on the map, and also there is no GPS item... less experienced players might think it's better to stay on coasts, since you only have to run with the sea on your left or right, depending on where you want to go.

The absence of a full map (or GPS item), with no ability to locate you on the map (forcing you to search for a town sign written in russian), along with the fact that the (about 99%?) of the spawn points are on the coast, I think that's the reason why people don't get off the coast, instead of loot... maybe they are afraid of getting lost, or maybe they want to find their mates easily... I don't think the solution is to remove the loot on the coast, that will only increase the free killings and cannibalism.

Well, it's only my opinion. Sorry for my bad English.

PS: My complaint about the map is not for me, I don't need maps, compasses, etc. I have played hundreds of hours and I know Chernarus like the back of my hand, and I can orient myself when I'm inland with the sun position and looking to the stars ... but I know people who prefer the mod for this reason (among other things).

Having a full map at hand and GPS would take out the adventure side of the game, getting lost when going to places you've never been is part of the experience for newer players and to be honest it's exciting coming across a random town that you didn't know was there when you are lost.

I didn't for my first month or so but now I use the iZurvive app on my phone. In case anyone cares now that loot spawns in most if not all buildings the topo map shows all structures as scale grey rectangles. You can't go to a certain building for certain loot anymore but you can find out of the way buildings less likely to have been looted. It also let's you plot a path, gives you the heading in degrees, and an ETA. I'm finally getting yo use all that orienteering stuff I learned in cadet survival camps.

to OP some folks don't metagame yes i know its hard to believe but some folks don't alt-tab or use there phone to find where they are some like to play the game and use the maps in game. as for no loot on the coast there is loot i found a tent and stuff in the first 10 min or so i spawned. and as for more killing and cannibalism i don't see that happening as folks are more split up if you set on the coast pre patch then you would run into so many folks and usually they were doing stupid shit like making fart noises or wearing no pants while screaming curse words which to me ruined immersion and made the game childish. now as of .55 i have explored more of the map then i ever have i find myself going to towns i haven't explored and getting lost and its great to have to roam around and find stuff i need instead of going to a set number of cities to get endgame stuff or my definition of endgame at least. SA i think should no longer be compared to the mod it makes no sense anymore to comapare the 2 they are 2 totally different games now the sooner folks leave the mod had this or the mod did that or i have billions of hours in the mod and it was like this at the door step the sooner folks might actually start having fun and just go with the flow.

I really see no reason to not give a fully map. Experienced players know the map and may occasionally use it to navigate, but rarely. Everybody else alt-tabs so they could just as well make the map useful as it is. No gps, that is lame.

Awwww, man! I totally wasted many hours on Super Mario! I always ran through all the levels because I thought that's what I was supposed to do.

If only I knew I was supposed to stay where I spawn and never move nor explore!

Tbh NW is boring. You can find more action (getting killed by hacker) in Kamyshovo for example.

Great response, but to be fair, when I was new, almost all spawns were between three mountains and the solnichny factory. I went south not to get lost -> died a few times in Electro. So I went north, found the food house just south of berezino. That started getting me going. I was extatic, and the first time I filled a canteen at the well at the red cafe, a dude axed me from behind :). But I started to remember where things are. Did that run for a few lives and kept exploring more. A few hours later I went to the neaf for the first time. So my area or operation got bigger and bigger. I really think it is not the easiest thing and might be even counter productive to just run somewhere without knowing where. If you have no points you recognize, then you also don't learn the map.

Now who I could never understad though were those staying in Electro / Cherno / Berezino after having some hours experience though.

Oh how I loved the old neaf ;(.

What I meant is that a good way to force some players to "get off the coast", is to make inland spawn points.

LoL

But then people would just end up committing suicide for a better spawn point even more than they do already. The coast is usually quite barren, and teeming with hostile survivors. If that isn't enough incentive for you to get away from there, that's on you.
