Let's talk performance.

Recommended Posts

I don't know about you guys, but when I need some added performance I use Viagra over the other products on the market.

"Reported because of viagra spam bot" oh wait... :D

The game is hilarious as hell because it has almost no multi-threading. When I had a 955 I could disable cores 3 and 4 and I would lose like 1 FPS.

I see some people wasting money to play an alpha game. I've been playing on my 2010 computer lol I'll buy a new one when DayZ is 100% ready!

If you can tell the difference between 59 and 62 fps, then go ahead. But what I posted was a simple build suggestion. I never said "Buy this, nothing else"

My rule of thumb is if you're just gaming, 8gb DDR3-1600 will work just fine.

No difference at all... 15% improvement in performance. Really bad deal for 10$.

Christ you guys are relentless. Did you not see where I said if he wants 2133 then he can get 2133.

You don't even need to buy more expensive RAM. If the performance is tied to clock speed and not timings then you can make your timings worse and increase the clock rate.

Let's assume I buy a new computer tomorrow. It'll probably be around $1.700.

Now let's talk about DayZ at launch. That's in a few years. By that time my PC won't be the newest thing out there, but in my opinion it'll be reasonable.

Will DayZ ever run at 60+ FPS anywhere, even in cities? With no desync either.

For a computer of that price, your game should run pretty smooth. But as of right now, optimization is pretty jacked up so you would get a considerably higher FPS after Q3 or Q4 this year. (near the end of 2015) and by then you should get a steady 35 frames in towns. (If they do a good job with optimization)

Giving the price is enough for most people to get a general idea of how good the PC is. No need to post any specs.

And yet again. Saying a "two year old PC" is also a perfectly fine way to explain how good, or bad my current PC is, without having to bring up specific specs. Saving everyone time.

And you know absolutely nothing about me. If I have programs running in the background or not. Which I don't. Like I said. I have probably been gaming since before you were born.

Obviously you're an immature child, who rages and lower yourself to semi personal attacks and silly assumptions. So I will just ignore you. So me and the other people who are interested in a proper discussion can continue.

Hey man,

I disagree, giving the price really doesn't say much at all about the PC you plan on buying. A lot of us built our own gaming/computing rigs and parts/boards vary to such a degree that just throwing out an arbitrary number is almost meaningless. Specifications are very important (not necessarily for DayZ since it is extremely limited, i.e., it doesn't take advantage of our hardware at the moment). How much RAM and what type of processor/cores/speed. What GPU are planning on buying, NVidia or AMD, solid state harddrive (?) etc..

For example, DayZ isn't taking advantage of more then two cores (what I have been told, might only be taking advantage of a single core for all I know) on our CPU. DayZ isn't taking full advantage of the power of our GPU's at the moment. All of this will be worked out during Beta when they begin to optimize the game. DayZ does seem to take some advantage of the amount of RAM a computer has, but again, only to a certain degree.

I built my PC back in 2008 and it runs DayZ fairly well though I'd definitely be a lot happier with better FPS in cities and during some combat encounters. I did upgrade my GPU a year or so ago (NVidia GTX 650 with 2gigs of RAM) and that allows me to play all of the games I am interested in.

I think you'd be much happier building your own rig. It's fairly easy to do as long as you take your time and pay attention (if you're a beginner, for more advanced users it doesn't take very long. The worst of it is the time it takes to install the operating system and all the programs and files you use/need). You're basically mounting a mother board and a power supply into a case (plus fans and such), plugging in/mounting a processor (you'll need thermal paste before plugging the CPU in). Everything after that is just plugging in memory and smaller boards or whatever other specific hardware you may need for your personal uses/tastes. (Oh yeah, you'll have to enter some values in the BIOS for your CPU and memory, especially if you plan to overclock, but it's fairly easy).

You might not have to buy a monitor if you use your old one. You might even be able to get away with keeping your old case and your periphrials (mouse and keyboard). All of that should bring the price down significantly, you could probably save anywhere from $500 to $700 and have a way better rig then you could ever buy in store or off the Internet.

Either way, good luck.

My computer wins, but it still runs DayZ like shit. I'm sure it'll run DayZ like shit at release, too.

My PC:

i5-4690k

Corsair H60

16GB 1600mhz DDR3 RAM

Gigabyte GTX 970

Asus H97i mobo

Corsair CX430M PSU

Cooler Master Elite 130

3D Mark: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/6106018

No matter what I edit in the cfg file, I can't seem to do better than 30FPS in cities. My FPS drops below 60 even when I hit places with a ton of trees. I can run the game at 1080p, high or low settings, 1440p DSR high or low settings and it makes almost no difference in my framerate unless I turn up every single setting to max. The game is not utilizing my GPU or my CPU fully so I hit a software limitation rather than a hardware one.

This game is just not optimized. I suspect that they will address it at some point but I'm not 100% sure when that might be. I see no reason why my hardware couldn't achieve a 60FPS minimum at all times but whether it ever happens or not is completely up to the devs at this point.

Actually, you would be completely wrong.

If I go online and buy pieces and parts for a new computer over several months watching for deals on specific parts that I want that I have carefully reviewed and spend $1,700 on the parts then assemble it myself my computer will be at least 3 times better than something you bought at Walmart for the same price and probably twice as nice as something you bought at TigerDirect pre-assembled or in a "kit".

Same thing with age. A two year old E-machine you paid $300 for at Bestbuy isn't the same as a two year old custom machine that was using components that were in the top third for quality.

WHAT you actually put into the machine or what it is is important. What you spent to get it, or how old it is is not relevant.

Actually, ram sticks with higher factory clocks are made of superior quality memory modules thus will achieve higher clocks in OC. Furthermore, is 10$ really big deal in damned 1700$ build?

I build my current PC back in early 2011 the week the GTX580 came out.

Dayz on 120GB SSD

GTX580 1,5GB

i7 950

12 gigs of 1600mhz ram

Asus Sabertooth

Game runs "fine" in cities with the usual .cfg tweaks, ParkControl and LPManager, on a mix of medium/low settings with all the pretty settings disabled. Not optimal, but it's playable. I'm not sure of the actual fps, but probably 20-25 which I am more than happy with considering people with beast rigs running it worse. Out of the cities it's 60+ for sure.
