Black Mountains

Recommended Posts

Would be cool if the end edges of chernarus were replaced with huge skyrim sized mountains that are un passable, just so people don't wander off to far and get the end of the world map. I believe that in the actual chernarus map there is supposed to be black mountains that separate the country from the rest of the continent

The actual Chernarus map? That's the one we are playing. It's changing over time, but I doubt it will end up being surrounded by impasssable black mountains.

The dayz map of chernarus is actually a smaller region in the country if chernarus.

Check out the Full Map of Chernarus tab. Chernarus is actually WAY bigger and we play in the region of South Zagoria, it would make sense to see mountains in the north border to Russia but if there were mountains to the west it would totally isolate South Zagoria to the rest of Chernarus by way of land.

i'd MUCH PREFER a passable "Zagorta" mountain range to the north that resembles namalsk.

the black mountains are in this area as we can see the svergo (boo devs, its actually the pobeda estuary but you had to ruin it) estuary

i supppose the real question is - will the final game extend to novigrad????

Unpassable mountains have a tendency to ruin the view, and make you feel boxed up, they kind of ruin the whole immersion factor (to my sense). I'd rather have an invisible barrier on a wide open field, the barrier wouldn't be like a wall, but rather like a soft area forcing you to slow down until you can no longer walk in that direction.

Anyways, it's not an easy issue to deal with...

I've heard that they are possibly adding Utes as an area you could go to but extending to Novigrad might produce some performance issues loading in all terrain, objects, etc.

It's been stated outright several times that expanding the map isn't something that is going to happen. It's a huge technical hurdle from what I understand, and they don't see any benefit to going through the trouble when the map is already huge.

Extending to Novigrad, if you include a proportionate amount of coast, would be a map roughly ten times the size of the current one. That's insanity. It's not a performance issue, as rendering distance has a set limit regardless of map size.

If they expand at all, the only way to go would be West or South in my opinion. If they go South, more islands could be included like Utes... if they go West a little, Miroslavl is basically just off the existing western edge of the map. I don't see any expansion happening at all though, not in the vanilla Standalone.
