Add few more survival items

It would be awesome to see few more items from this list to be seen in game.

- Multi-tool knifes ( Begin able to open cans, use them as knifes and lock doors ; Shall only be found at millitary locations ) [ Multi-tool Knife ]

- Lighter ( Same as matches, lights fire and gets job done. We should be able to refill it with fuel from gas cans until game develops more and adds lighter fluid ) [ Lighter ]

- Survival Knife ( Should be only found at heli crashes or rarely in barracks. With sharp edge, you could make a spark to light fire, etc ; Can't be placed in boots as other mil. knife in game ) [ Survival Knife ]

- Watches ( They can tell you server time, also make two versions : One civillian watch and other military watch. Military watches should have abillity to produce some low light in case you want to see what's the time in dark. ) [ Watch - Civilian version ] [ Watch - Military version ]

The multitool should just be a rare civilian spawn because i have 2 or 3 at my house right now, They are not rare at all.

Lighters would be great, but ive never seen a refuel able lighter, maybe just some of those cheap dollar store ones? or a zippo would be great.

Knives are always fun.

We need watches, im still unaware of why we dont have them.

Yeah, but I don't think that civillian multi-tool thingies would have attachments for things that I've mentioned above. I got one myself, it has knife, screwdriver, scissors and nail thingy. The one that I've mentioned in texts has can openers, knife, and lock picking screwdrivers etc. which normally you dont get to have unless you buy millitary pack ( I was in Swiss once, they are f* expensive! )

There is actually lighter fluid, I don't know how you refill lighter because I haven't done that in real life. Of course, you don't want to toss $50 worth silver lighter just because it doesn't have fuel, would you? I quess not, so you're going to refill lighter.

About watches, I don't know. Once, long time ago I was watching a video from Youtube about pirate version of DayZ SA, and lol, they had watches but later they removed it. Even watch from ARMA 3 would be awesome, but I think it has old-school style :)

Why would Swiss army knives only spawn in military locations? Those are arguably the most recognizable and most used pocket knives on the planet would make no sense for them not to spawn in civilian areas.

Because they are called army knifes. I don't think that villagers from former CCCP had a luxory Mil. knife in their pockets, neither homes. Also, I didn't mention Swiss knife because I don't want Bohemia to ask Victorinox for license. I just want un-licensed millitary multi-tool knife.

1) I own multiple multi-tools, all with different tools (awls, screwdrivers, knives, saws, files, picks, scissors). Seriously,  a good multi-tool IRL (and hopefully, in Day Z) is an excellent base for a survival kit, and can function as many different toolkits on its own. They, for this reason, should not be a military-only spawn.

 

2) Lighters are also good survival tools. I know how to build a fire with "primitive" methods, have multiple "fire-steels" attached to my backpack, survival kit, and knife, but 99% of the fires I build, I light with a lighter. Often one of the cheap, dollar-worth "crack lighters". Can't be beat. 

 

3) No. "Survival knives", the sort with the hollow handle, tend to be utter shit. Are there good ones? Of course. They don't really hold enough in the handle to be worthwhile, and are heavy, tend to be cheap steel, and not as durable as a "better" knife. 

 

Case in point: I have a Morakniv as the base of my survival kit. It is for "medium" tasks. Lashed to the steath is a firesteel, whistle, knife sharpener, and multi-tool ("small tasks"). With all of those things, I have more functionality than a "survival knife", in a smaller package and better quality of tools. If I need to work on "large tasks" (processing wood, rough processing large game, pounding stakes, etc), I can slip a hatchet (think the in-game hatchet) under my belt and be good to go. In Survival, "multifunctionality" is good, but only to a certain extent.

I’m have got to the point in my SA player life were I have taken break and I’m really questioning, what is this game really about anyways? DayZ fancy’s itself a post epoc zombie sim. It by def is a game was goal is to survive; it’s about self-preservation and group preservation. To stay alive and endure............Right?

 

 

But when I play dayz, more so in groups. Survival seems to be very much on the back burner. About 90 % of players I have played with survival is secondary. Really it’s just gear up, then pop for a quick thrill then die. Most players don’t take the game that serous really even care. I have known of players being cold or having a pretty serious problem with their avatars, and not even do anything about it. Or they will simply kills themselves. I notice players don’t fish that often, don’t hunt, only really build fires if they have too ect ect. It’s the truth.

 

 

 

When I play I play to survive. I play like I am surviving an apoc. I play to keep my avatar alive as long as possible, but when I play group it always seems I am in the minority. If your a surivalist YOU are in the minority. I get the whole " don’t be afraid to die, or don’t get attached to your gear" broken record. To me that is an excuse not to play the game the way it was intended, and revert to playing it more like COD or counter strike. I have been ridiculed for surviving long periods by people. Like I am playing wrong because I survive much longer then average and I play on the same servers they do lol so who really playing the game right? You know whats Fed up, survivalist players in some cases probably have a much better pvp kill ratio the instant grad player do.

 

 

The reason I bring this up is why bother? For most players they could care less about it. It’s true. They just want to run around and shot things in a somewhat believable world. They don t want more complex survival mechanics, they want more action. The majority of players play exclusively to pvp and pvp is the end game. They want to fight other players. So you going to add more survival items.

 

 

 

You want to know something. When they added leather close, I saw no one in game and I mean no one bother to craft a vest, or any other item.  I did, but it seems like no one else gave a crap. Thats just from my prospective.

 

 

So you you’re going to add more items, that most players won’t use? It’s true. Were is this game really heading?....lets be real....

 

 

 

Heres the thing day z is a was intended to be a nitch game, but it is not anymore. It’s a mainstream game played by mainstream players now. They play it like a mainstream shooter. They find survival type stuff to be time consuming and boring.

I think people play like that right now because actual survival is SO EASY, you can afford to play the game as a shooter. They starve themselves because you can search three houses and find enough food to stuff yourself. They "spray and pray" because you can search through a couple military buildings and come up with 4 magazines and 200 rounds.

 

Make the environment the enemy (cold, wind, rain), cut back resources A LOT (canned food, medicine, bullets), and ramp up both the number of zeds as well as the AI, and you should see the "face" of gameplay change. Will the PvP-fuckfest-lovers be completely gone? No, PvP is a part of the game. But they will have to do other things instead of camp a house for hours.

You can get very cheap refillable lighters. These kinds are refillable:

I think people play like that right now because actual survival is SO EASY, you can afford to play the game as a shooter. They starve themselves because you can search three houses and find enough food to stuff yourself. That is true, Surival is too easy, for most its why bother hunting when you can just search a couple houses for food. Dont get me wrong I want more surival mechanics. Thats a good point, the game is not balanced to be a surival sim. Sure if you wanted to one could completly survive off the land. I agree there needs to be some tweaking of the game. There really is just too much loot laying around.

 

Those "PvP-fuckfest" players are also really predictible for the most part. They almost have a sheep like mantality, they copy each other. Look at cherno. Almost every time I have been there on packed servers. Snipers are easy to find, there always atop those factory towers, or apt buildings. Players....well just check the fire house or the police stations lol sure to be some ass hat in there. Ass hats always gravitate towards to tech building or hospitals too......LOL They are not tactical what so ever. If they were they would know urban warfare, is really not at all ideal. Its a death trap. But what ever.

 

I am kind of sick of it, I am really to point were I just want to wait and see, not even play that often. I am optimistic sometimes. Maybe I should just sit back and watch, the development run its course. Sit it out for a while. I hope it ends up like your saying and they do turn up the heat on the surival side, tone back the loot. I want it to be a really gritty surival game 1st and mainly. Were pvp is something have to do out of survival. Not this instant grad crap it is now. I do want to see more survival mechanics added, there needs to be more incentive for players to really want to use them...hense lowering the amount of loot.

The first picture is a picture of refillable lighters. They basically look the same as the non-refillable ones. The only difference is that they look like this at the bottom:

Which is why I want there to be mechanics for industry added, like stills for ethanol, small factories for light industry (bullet-presses, light metal working, etc), so the clans would have something to actually fight over. So. instead of clusterfucking in Berezino to ...... clusterfuck in Berezino, they are instead fighting over the lathes in the factory, or the supplies of both uncut logs and finished timber in the lumber yard.

 

I also would LOVE to see 99% of the wells removed from the map. In actual survival, ensuring a clean supply of drinking water is probably the most difficult thing to do, at least for the short term. Yes, rain barrels are coming eventually , but those take a long time to fill, and would only really be good for bases and groups. If the standing water around the map was unsafe to drink without boiling or chemical treatment, and there were no wells to draw from,  then people would have to purify water BEFORE getting into gunfights.

OP: all of the things you have suggested are rather old suggestions and watches were in the mod.

 

Zippo lighters should really be the go to as Ash pointed out, they can be filled with gas (or most fuels).

 

Disposables should be everywhere but of varying quality.

 

Blue flame wind proof "fishermans lighters" should be available if we are going to have refillable butane....

 

I want to believe that a full compliment of true survival gear is being put into DayZ.

Pretty sure multi tools are not all that luxurious. Just because something has army in the name doesn't just mean it's exclusively used by the military and cannot be used by civilians pretty sure multi tools are common worldwide by people of all types not just military also it's knives not knifes

I could see that being fun on private shards. I dabbled in private shards and public servers. There is something about only having a avatar that can stay on only one server that adds realism. Server hooping simply does not exist. Persistants is what really needs to get going. I mean really at best now its a week you can kind of store something...kind off. I know its coming. It will really make private shards into there own worlds, you could have a clan war over resources. Or what ever you wanted. A real surival game like your saying.  Public servers......I am not sure about or how it would work.

 

I def know later on down the the road when presistants really does work. I will probably play on privates shards mostly.

Your 100% right budy! I am just alittle sick of that sort of COD mantality that has taken over some aspects of the game and venting lol. Its just not why I play dayz. You know what Im taking about.

  • Multi-Tools and Swiss Army Knives should spawn primarily at Residential and Industrial Locations. Swiss Army knives should be common, the most basic types normally just have a small knife (a 2" blade and a 1" blade) and a Can Opener/Bottle Opener. Multi-Tools would be significantly rarer for balance reasons but function like a 1 slot toolbox, they have a screwdriver, pliers, saw, 1 or 2 Knives (of different blade lengths) and a can opener/Bottle Opener. In my opinion, Swiss Army Knives and Multi-Tools should function like most tools, when used in an action in crafting or use on an item it naturally degrades it's status from Pristine to Worn to Damaged and Ruined etc.

There should be three types of "Lighter" all of which are found at Residential Areas. Cheap knockoff brands which are disposable and spawn with a random percentage of fuel, once used up can be discarded and cannot be refilled. Refillable Gas Lighters which require a Butane Can to refill can be found as well, they are slightly rarer but can be reused. Zippo's should be the "Ultimate" Lighter in that you can use anything flammable to fuel them, from Gasoline, Kerosene or High Proof Alochol (such as the Alcohol Tincture)

There should not be one of these hollywood style Survival Knives as mentioned above, instead a true "Survival" knife should be something like a wood or rubber handled Knife like a Morakniv Knife or a Swiss Scout Knife.

Flint Sticks should be added as a source of fire lighting without having to resort to Matches. Additionally different types of Matches should exist in-game, from the common wood and cardboard matches to the slightly less common windproof and Waterproof matches.

Miniature Survival Kits can be featured as a rare loot drop in Military Structures, these small metal tins hold a small array of survival gear.

A Magnifying Glass should be added as another means to start a fire while in direct sunlight. Alternatively, one can use a lens from a set of glasses as well.

In regards to Watches, in my personal opinion Watches should be fairly diverse, common Civilian style watches are the classic style or Digital Style. Civilian Watches should damage easily and are not very weatherproof nor water resistant. "Military" style watches should incorporate damage and weather resistance qualities and perhaps even incorporate an inbuilt compass to justify them being rare.
