Any hints/tips for a new Mod player?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I have 650 hours on DayZ Standalone. I have been told to try the mod on multiple occasions, only problem is, it's so different, that I have no idea what to do. Seriously. I have the basic idea down, like 1. Scavenge 2. Slay 3. Survive and all that, but IDK where to find guns and stuff. I was in the fire-station in Elektro the other day, and found a Winchester, M4, PDW, all that good stuff, and then a French guy showed up, and I killed him, because he grabbed the M4, which made me nervous. Anyway, what I've come to know, is that the community of the mod is different than SA.

Here's my questions:

1. I have DayZLauncher, which mod do you recommend? The story above took place on the vanilla mod. I have played Epoch for about an hour or so, and same with Epoch Panthera. I am currently downloading OverWatch/Poch.

2. Where would be some other places to find guns?

3. Do I KOS all the time in the mod? No-one seems friendly.

4. Tell me a good DayZ Mod story. I like stories.

Thanks all. :)

First you will need to find a good server :) and luckily for you i have a link here which will help for that...

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/222172-zero-remorse-au-eu-and-us-servers/

Our EU and US servers are pretty much brand new with fresh hives - Best tiem to join and get a headstart is now.

Epoch 1.0.5.1 and Overwatch are the main mods you will want to install.

If you play on Zero Remorse when you open your map there are locations marked on the map for major loot areas, you can go there and find all the good stuff.

I think Dayz Epoch is more PVP based than Standalone but still does not mean you have to KOS but to be safe you should :P

I dont really have any good stories but i am sure you can make some good ones after playing on our servers and share them with me :)

Good luck on your adventures!

i think you should play the true 100% vanilla dayz mod there are not many of them left as most people are lazy and want to just pvp and find guns easy and want to play house! with base building in epoch versions here is a UK vanilla server try it this is the website www.dayzeuropa.com

You could do a simple search of these forums and find your questions have been answered many hundreds of times.   Good luck and welcome to the mod.

Vanilla's ok but there's not much to do as there's so little to collect. I'd recommend giving it a go if you're one of those who plays in groups and likes a busy server. But if you play lone wolf it can get dull from my personal experience. I'd suggest trying a variety. The only way I can find overwatch servers is via dayzcommander. Some of the ones I've played on lately were NPG, The Hospital #1 and The Hospital #2, Dreist, PVP Walkers and VOLTs. Just do a search for any of them. The only vanilla I can get on are Musty's EU servers but they tend to be empty and as I said, there's nothing much to do except starve or die of thirst. Pity as they were a lot of fun when loads of people were playing on them.

It depends on what you want to do with the game. When it started, it was more like a social thing than a real game. It simply required cooperation to get anything done. Some people modded their servers so much than this aspect has been lost. People "do" KOS in these, because there is actually no point in teaming up. If you want to play alone, definitely go on Epoch or something like that. But since you have a lot of experience with the SA, you can probably handle yourself within 1-2 days of playing, make friends, create alliances, militias on more difficult servers, like the vanilla ones.

If you like CS:GO, play Overpoch.

If you like survival and social drama, get on a vanilla server, or a server that is close to vanilla.

Pro-tipp... active, mature and friendly admins are the key to a great gaming experience.

Here's my answers:

1. I also have DayZLauncher special sauce w/ cheese. I play Vanilla servers mainly, but dabble in different mods. I say try each one out and see what YOU like best. My personal experience is that I enjoy bares bones survival without any real extras.

2. Flame-broiled goodness,Guns are usually found at high-risk areas such as Military bases, Airfields, and other areas depending on the server.

3. You can be whoever you want, young Cheeseburger. Are you going to be a ruthless killer or a friendly Hero? I happen to be the Friendliest Bandit you'll ever meet, but that's me. Carve your own path.

4. Tell you a good DayZ Mod story? You like stories? So do I. I have many #2 at McDonalds. My favorite consist of finding brand new players and teaching them the ways of Banditry. Nothing is more satisfying then watching a wet-behind-the-ears Bambi blossom into a full-blown Killer. I can only compare it to a Father watching his first son being born or watching proudly as your son beats the shit out of the school bully. There are dangers though...like when your newly trained assassin becomes driven on....no, driven is not correct. Becomes dependent on killing everything in sight and there is nothing that can quench his thirst, his hunger of the kill. Sadly, that is when you have two options: You either cut all ties or you have to put them down. Ah, yes...stories. I have many, but not quite like this fellow. His name is George. George Dubois. He definitely was cut from a different fabric then you & me...

Thank you. (|)

This is easily avoided by disabling the side chat.  :)

Sadly, some of those I listed have now closed. NPG still runs half a dozen other servers, all full most nights but they're just not for me. I like my overwatch servers but there are now probably three left. Won't be long before there are none, so I play as much as I can.
