More weapon break downs (Like Trumpet)

Recommended Posts

Okay so just a little something that came to mind while I was reading the forums. .54 was released today on exp, the FN Trombone or the "Trumpet" Can be disassembled. How weird that it's the only gun that can be right? An AK has I believe off the top of my head about 7 parts for full breakdown without any tools required. The M4 however has more. So add the ability to find tools to break all the guns down (that actually can break down, some guns are specially machined and cannot be broken down at all without industrial grade equipment.) And make their part sizes correspond with how big they are. So if you found an M4 and you wanted to save your AKM for later, you could disassemble it and carry it around. This also would break ground for the use of some tools in DayZ, like the hammer and screwdriver. Now you can beat a zombie to death, beat a spring out, open a can of food, and unbolt a receiver with a hammer and screwdriver. Just think of the potential of having weapons being broke down, you might have to hunt an AKM down bit by bit. This could also play a key role whenever they set certain loot spawns to general portions of the map. (Yes, they actually have spoke about this and you can find more about it on your free will.) Before this gets too long I'm going to cut this off and let you all ponder what this game could be with a few features that could be implemented.

That specific breakdown of an AK wouldn't really do anything to make it fit in a backpack better, as it still has the same length.

Specific guns actually designed for easy breakdown like the M4, Blaze 95, and IZH-43 I could stand behind, but I'm not sure how much the devs want to go and revise their models to do that (especially considering the Trumpet has no attachments where the M4 does. And the IZH-43 can be sawed-off, removing the need for breakdowns.)

AKs specifically I think should be limited by their current form. You want to store it in a backpack? Get an AKS-74U, or you're carrying it on your back/in your hands. With AKs being, and likely to remain, the most common assault rifle platform in the game it'd be breaking the balance to be able to carry one around with free will.

They should only need to break down if it serves some logical purpose, of course you could always take any stock off the make the AK shorter which I think should be a function.

The double barrel is a definite, those are as easy to put together and take apart  as 1, 2, 3

Maybe though you just want to break it down a little bit to disable it so nobody gets quick access to your spare weapons.

I think a major dis-abler though should not be the shape or carry size of your bag, you should be able to sling many guns over your shoulder or strap them all over your bag.

The main issue should be weight fatigue and efficiency as in Arma 3, in Arma 3 you get tired with one gun, a sidearm and some combat fatigues in what seems like a couple hundred meters.

While maybe I think the base pace should be slightly faster in DayZ sprint times and having a loaded up character speeds should remain about the same.

Folding down a gun to fit in your bag should be more about concealing a powerful assault weapon and allowing yourself to slip through someones guard as a minor threat.

The sks breaks down into about 8-9 pieces (more if to remove the gas piston) with the tip of one bullet as the only tool required. You can put it back together with the barrel/action as one unit, the stock, and the magazine but it only takes up 2/3 it assembled length.

I don't want to see a lot of weapons that can do this, but certainly some of the lower-ranked ones.

Can we at least have the ability to un-string our bows so we can carry the ash-wood stick in our melee slot?

I don't like that concept. We shouldn't have things play around muh balance. If a weapon can do something, it should be able to do it ingame. This isn't some competitive arena shooter.

Well certainly, if a weapon can do it, let it do it. What that doesn't mean however is that we have to include any of these weapons. The balancing would be achieved by limiting those types of weapons that are included, not by limiting the functions of weapons that could be folded up. That is more what I meant. Any collapsible weapons could be simply made to be pretty rare.
