How I Feel a Chat System Would Make Sense (if Its Added)

Recommended Posts

  • When it came to side chat in the mod I always had a love/hate relationship with it, in one hand I love how it gave you the ability and encouraged you to interact with everyone on the server and in the other hand, I hated how it didn't quite make sense and could easily be abused by anyone, but I think I have an idea for a nice middle ground where it doesn't take away the ability to communicate across long distances while making you work for it

The Preset Idea- Imagine if there were preset places you go just to talk to others, the people on the receiving end would have to be at one of these various other preset locations scattered around the map in order to both receive and respond to the message, unlike walkie talkies these broadcasting systems have a much larger range in order to communicate with each other, but can be picked up and responded to by someone with a walkie talkie if they are close enough. For example, take this very, very, very rough idea of a map with the possible locations, and lets say your in cherno talking to someone in elektro, anyone one that has a walkie talkie and is within 500m (roughly maximum range) of the broadcast source, has the ability to responded

The Random Idea- Same rules apply from above but instead of preset locations these broadcasting stations are spawned randomly around the map, similar to heli crashes. Possible design of these locations.

Range- This is something that I wanted to leave up for discussion but personally I think it would nice to have the range only work in the region its located in, for example south coast can only talk to south coast while east coast can only talk to east coast and so on.....but at the same time there are large broadcasters located somewhere in the middle of the map that can talk to all.......but now I'm just blabbering

So that's my idea let me know what you guys think is this something that you would be interested in? Lets try and have a clean and civilized discussion about this, lets talk about a subject that I believe this game and community can really benefit from....."communication among each other"

People will mod the servers into crap and give all sorts of chat options along with the billion vehicles that go with them.  Do not fear, you will get what you want.

I'd prefer it if Walkie Talkies had a "Public Frequency" setting which allows you to use a side chat function server-wide with everyone else on the server with a walkie talkie set to it.

Currently, walkie talkies are everywhere and they're basically useless. I've used one, but since there's never ever anyone using another one, or at least in range, it's been quickly dumped for the extra 2 slots of inventory space for something actually useful. If they simply gave access to a server-wide Side Chat on one frequency and the current ranged-mic chat with the other frequencies everyone would be carrying one instead of no one.

How many people even know how to use a walkie talkie?

Pretty sure the police stations already have big static radios in them, all they need is a power source.

There's also the small radios in houses for receiving messages, and there will probably be a long range military radio added at some point.

I honestly see no problem with adding a global chat when you have a walkie on you and turned on. Just make it a server option and then let people decide if they want proper walkies or insta global chat walkies. Could give access to some channels using <> like  in the mod, but more global channels just called "wakie channel 1" "walkie channel 2" ect. If your on a server with no glbal then the range is restricted, if there is global all channels are serverwide :)
