I have a dream...

Recommended Posts

I have a dream, that one day DayZ will be a place where suvivors need to survive!!!

Currently DayZ is a harsh place to be, but mostly that is not caused by the infected population that wants to kill me, it's caused by players who want to kill me. What gives DayZ it's special touch is not the open world with endless possibilities or the zombie apocalypse, it's the player interaction.

I have a dream that one day the number of zombies in DayZ will be so high, that they are actually feared.

I have a dream that one day going into cities will be an adventure, a trip which requires planning, careful behavior and skill.

I have a dream that one day players need to team up to increase their chances of surviving when looting areas with a high ammount of zombies.

I have a dream that one day a player has to make a decision before he shoots a bullet, whether the risk is worth it attracting a lot of zombies.

I have a dream that one day the player interaction will become an essential part to survive.

This comment from the status update gave me hope that this dream will come closer: "[...] the latest news regarding testing of the new zombies suggests we may soon be able to significantly increase the number of zombies spawning." & "implement stealth mechanics into the game"

EDIT: It seems that it's not clear to everyone that shooting somebody is also a form of player interaction, and this risk makes player interaction so exciting. But right not the benefits for teaming up (also a form of player interaction) are rather small.

EDIT, EDIT: This is not a complaint about the current game status, it's about what I'd like to see (Isn't this obvious?!?)

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT: I NEVER said that I don't want PvP or KoS, it's what makes the game exciting and unprdictable. I want the game to become more complex which is punishing frivolity. (People don't seem to get that)

I have a dream that one day these types of threads won't exist, threads that drone on and on about how it's not the zombies, it's the players, blah blah blah.

Other people you would meet in an Apocalypse wouldn't all be friendly, they wouldn't want to interact with you, they would be pushed to their limits and need to survive, they would see you and your gear/items and kill you for them, sure there are people who would stop to see if you have anything they need, or to help you, but let's face it, DayZ would be pretty boring if people just all get along and only cared about killing zombies, and holding hands through the fields of Chernarus, lol.

Well that's not what I said, I just said, that it would be nice if people have to think about what they do inside cities (or airfields) and that there is a (bigger) reward for not killing someone.

Remember:

Shooting somebody is also a form of player interaction, and this risk makes player interaction so exciting. But right not the benefits for teaming up (also a form of player interaction) are rather small.

This is a cleverly disguised bellyache thread. But its only bellyaching. There are some people who know this is an alpha test, and understand the developers are working hard and doing a good job.

I never complained about alpha ;) I never said something like "it's stupid that it's not in the game yet..." I just displayed how I'd like to see the game, that's why I said "I hope that this dream will come closer" ;)

(read this with russian acsent)

I, the lonely Artyom, known as the commander of the "Stealth Eyes" I could be a cold blooded killer, a chaser, a helper, a good teammate. But aren´t we all of that sometimes?

"I do have a dream, due to the fact that my life only gives me lemons, I´m still searchin for someone whose life gives he vodka, so I can throw a party!!" :D

(without the jokes now)

I Have been out there a couple of hours, and I can tell you people react differently. I once found a guy while i was in Elektra who literally was running towards me with an AK74 on his hands, when I he was like 2 or 3 meters from me (and I had my gun out) he said "Hi there human fellow , it´s nice to see that u also have a weapon so i dont need to give you my pistol and why the hell i would give my pistol? Because there are some bandits north of here (then he points at north), so try to stay in the bushs friend!" then after goin into North i found a few bandits, they surrounded me and when I realised that it was already too late then of them says with a funky acsent " Stop right there, to pass through this path u need to pay, and I see u have an AKM, that would do" (I gave him the gun because it was my only way out, without getting killed).

Well so summing up everythin, IN THE MID OF THE APOCALIPSE people would probably kill other people without thinkin... but then later on they will prefer to team up and try to help other people instead of killing for no reason at all (Just saying that, kill the hostiles, keep an eye in neutrals, and let live the friendly guys which are trying to have a fun night)!

Happy scavenging buds!

PS:A few days after I found the AK74 guy with the same things,(HOW?!?), well then together we teamed up and made the "Stealth Eyes" because we knew that it was time to hunt some bandits and chase some fresh blood, why chasing? Well literally( I´m not jokin) we sometimes stalk fresh blood and kill any hostiles that they found, usually we get out of the bushes in the first encounter so we reveal ourselves and we claim the loot (leaving somethings to our little fellow), but dont expect to be so lucky (or unlucky, depends in ur point of view)...

Beans for the "russian accent" :P

True words, those moments make DayZ so awesome.

But now imagine how all the PvP-gamplay would require more attention to the surroundings. Bandits would have to think about whether they fire a bullet/bullets, friendly Players would have more benefits from teaming up, thus running through cities to find other fiendly folks won't be that easy anymore. Players, regardless of their playing style, would have to think more about their behavior when meeting other players. Stealth becomess a bigger meaning. Aggro zombies indicate even more where other players might be.

I think it's really going to change the gameplay of DayZ.

The game would be even more awesome than already is! Yes, bandits would be as common as finding trees while ur travelling, but the fact that people would need to think more about their behavior would defenitely put a realistic touch to the game. I think that people play too much as a Rambo (if u know what I mean). Killing everythin that gets in  range it´s not funny (well maybe a bit), but it´s not the best way to play, trying all the different strategies that u can adopt (sneaky assassin,Marauder/Berserker/Rambo,chaser,peace maker,ZOMBIE?!?) is the best way to know what suits u most. I´m not saying to everybody be vegetating in the game ,LOL, just saying that EXPLORE UR OPTIONS.

And as someone already said: "The deadliest predators in DayZ aren´t zombies, but in fact the humans!"

So, people want to kill me for my Flashlight and battery?

It's possible, as pristine Batteries are a rarity, and they can be used for many things such as Pistol flashlights, Weapon flashlights, Range finders, ect.

My point to my reply was that it seems that people will go above and beyond posting some intellectual post about player interaction and being killed, when it's just covering up a whine thread about how their tired of being KoS'd and want things put in place to halt or stop this all together.

Bambis for the most part need to get the F off of the coast, stop traveling well known roads/paths and try being less noticeable if they don't want to run into some coast hunting KoS player, get inland, where surprisingly the people you meet there will indeed talk to you and be friendly, granted your not at a military location.

I don't care if people PVP. xD I was just using that moment to be a smart-ass. :D Also, batteries being rare (they would be)? They dropped there battery, why kill us now for one? That doesn't sound very smart. :P

Sorry for the late response, I was quite busy with my exams, so I couldn't respond here.

No, more for the fun (I even did it once too, shame on me). Nobody cares for the items of a bambi, they are probably ruined anyways after they've been shot.

If someone really wants the batteries, they'll just go to a bambi and ask them or threaten them to hand out the batteries. Shooting someone destroys the loot --> not smart.

It seems you still didn't get my point, so I'd like to explain it again for you. I'm not complaining about KoS, Pvp or bandits or anything like this. E.g. in the new update, I saw a guy driving a truck, I wanted to have the truck, so I tried to shoot him without any hesitation (not very nice behavior, but I wanted the truck). This happened inside a larger city near the police station, now imagine the same situation with a ton of zombies in this town. My "random shooting" would have attracted all the zombies and I would have been in huge trouble.
Conclusion: A lot of zombies make you THINK before DOING SOMETHING. In my opinion this makes gameplay more interesting and "deeper" (in the meaning if complexity).

Do you understand my point now?

So you want a larger amount of zombies to be put in so that the people who, "shoot without thinking" will get into huge trouble, am I right?

But wouldn't this also tie into wanting less "needless" shooting of other people (KoS/PvP ect.), because in doing so, you would attract unwanted zombie horde attention, forcing you to interact with people, or assist others in keeping safe from zombies, right?

I re-read your "I have a dream" sentences, and what I take away from them is that, you wanting the number of zombies increased in good loot areas, to the point where players not only have to work together but think long and hard about how their going to get in and get out, also working together with others in order to survive, which means less killing each other ( A part of the game that a fair amount of people enjoy ) and more working hand and hand with others in order to survive an infested area.

It's not only shooting, it's also about running around/moving without thinking, driving without thinking, performing actions (craft, drink, eat, etc.) without thinking, making any other noise without thinking, being highly visible (e.g. on towers), closing doors, etc. Basically it's about paying more attention to your environment.

Well, kind of. For example in rural areas or areas with less zombies, the zombie aspect wouldn't play a role. It's more like an awareness where you are and what consequences an action could bring. To be honest, as I saw the truck (the first one I ever saw) I still would have tried to shoot it, because I wanted it really badly, but then I'd had to live with the consequences. I think at military loot places, people will always try to KoS, no matter of the consequences. But when something happens, a larger group will then increase your chances to survive (it does now too, but running away on your own is "suffficent" right now).

Last paragraph; Yes, but instead of "long and hard" (hehehe, long and hard    ), it should rather be a punishment for frivolity. This doesn't mean that there's less killing, if people enjoy that part of the game, they can still do it but should be better prepared, e.g. have a good way to escape, be in a safer place (e.g. rooftop) or have enough ammo and magazines to fight the zombies (they shouldn't be unbeatable).

Do/did you watch the walking dead? That's a bit how I'd like to see it; cities are a necessary place to go, but dangerous as hell. If you team up your chances to survive are better, yet other "humans" will mostly get you in trouble.

A reminder: This is just MY opinion, if anybody doesn't share or like this opinion, that's perfectly fine. This is why this forum is called "generall discussion"  ;)

This game has so much more potential than being just another PvP-filled fuckfest.

Thankfully, the devs keep adding things that promote cooperation.

Oh this old canard again.....

In an apocalypse exactly the opposite would happen because that's how our species has survived up until now - the loners will die off.
