Detailed houses

Recommended Posts

So. Let's talk about this again since I feel like it's a really important thing for the FINAL game. I've already made a topic about this but I wanted to make a new. So as I was saying in my first post, every house interia looks so weird and unconviniatly placed. Like com'on. Not many people sleeps in the kitchen and doesn't have a bathroom unless there poor. And not everyone in the place DayZ is taking place can be that right. So. If this works with the engine and without any massiv fps-drops every time you enter a city or village, I suddgest more detailed homes. Also that most of the houses rooms and so on recreates because to me they doesn't feel so... Realistic if you can say.

Now I want to mention that the world outside the houses, like the streets and so on, looks amazing to me. The devs have done a great job with that. But the interia of the houses. Not so god.

To start with, nearly no houses have a bathroom or even a toilet. Most of them only have one or to rooms each (that either are enterable or that's just the hole house). The beds usualy are in the kitchen and the kitchen is often not realy a kitchen. And hell, they beds doesn't even look like beds. And that brings us to one other thing. I hope that there will be different furniture in different houses. Not the same in every house. Also, if it works, that two or more houses that look the same on the outside, doesn't do that on the inside. So differently placed furniture in the same type of buildings.

It feels like the emotion breaks a bit everything you enter most of the houses only because they look like sh*t inside. And that's not the good apocalyptic shit I mean. (Sorry for the harsh words devs. You're doing a great job otherwise)

So to tie thing up.

-More detailed interia in houses

-More "realistic" rooms

-More furniture

-Differently placed or even randomly placed furniture in same type of buildings

What do you guys think? Should they change it or could it be like it is now?

I just want you to change your perspective for a moment. Take into consideration this country could have been going through a serious economic crisis (And to be honest that wouldn't be too strange). People might not have been able to afford plumbing, they might not of been able to afford "elegant" bathrooms and they might not of had much space for beds in certain rooms, as they might've served other purposes in their lives. I don't think many buildings should have these "Luxuries", not in the current setting of the world. We know close to nothing about the state in which the country was in before the apocalypse (Mostly due to the fact that this is a fictional location, even if based off of a real place). We know nothing of how those people lived. Just go with what you've got, and make up lore to match.

It's a poor country. Most buildings have outhouses nearby. This isn't the US where every house has 4 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths.

No of corse. I get that. I didn't mean that every house should have 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. And even very poor households can have one room for each. Or maybe for example, on room for kitchen/living room and one bed room and one bathroom. Also maybe one room for Beds, the kitchen and the living room. Dinning table included. Me myself have lived in plenty of "one room apartments" or what you call it in English. All I'm saying is that even if your poor, you can at least have a bathroom and one more room. In Sweden where I live, the kitchen and bathroom doesn't count as rooms I think. So I mean. They should at least have that. I don't know. It was just an idea to make the game look and feel better

I'm gona be honest. I didn't realy thing about that with them being that poor. Your right about that. But to me it doesn't even feel like there where poor people living there. More like they where to lazy to furnish their house. I didn't mean that they all should live in luxury houses with all moderns stuff. But yeh. You know what I mean

I get where you're coming from, no worries xD But a change of perspective as I stated before would be helpful. The people before shiz hit the fan had just enough to scrape by, which would explain more than just the missing luxuries (i.e. couches, plumbing, showers, etc.), it would explain the lack of supplies (With the theory that it hasn't been too long since the apocalypse started. This is all really a matter of what lore you believe in :P

You don't know what poor means.  We're not talking 'we can only afford one trip to Lego Land this year' poor, we're talking 'A truck full of chickens turned over on the road and I managed to scrape a dead one out from under my fender so we can eat more than bread tonight' poor.  This is a post soviet state, meaning they didn't have much to begin with and they made due.  I live fairly comfortably, but my house is an old plantation bunkhouse that was meant to hold at least 2 families of 4+.  You and I have running water, we think that to be a bare minimum.  Most people are lucky if they have a hand water pump in their town/village that they need to collect water from daily with a bucket.

And keep in mind this was originally a mod of a milsim game with very little enterable buildings where the intent was never to have a fully fleshed and detailed interior design as soldiers (in most cases) aren't suppose to go kicking in doors, say 'wow that's a sweet kitchen they got there' or 'oh my god, this place is so getho they all have to sleep in the kitchen.'

Regardless of the poor country posts, the houses are lacking in detail, especially buildings ported from Arma2.

That's exactly my point! Someone gets it  ;)

I think too that Chernarus can use more mood setting dress up. It should look like people lived there, and used their environment, fled and died there. Old dead decaying bodies in chairs, on floors, etc. Also smouldering fires, smoke, flags, clothes on moving washing lines, windmills, in short things that move, indicate wind direction (needed for accurate long range shots!) to make the place feel much more alive.

Just wonderin how the heck that washin machine still moves, but nevermind...

There are newer houses and buildings in the northern parts of the map that aren't used elsewhere south. It would be nice if some of the southern buildings were simply replaced with some of the northern buildings.

A prime comparison of this is the standard restaurant/diner/pub that's in most towns. Everything in it is basically the same as the house across the street, including the wall paper. Just with more tables. No character to it and it's pretty much empty.

Now compare it to the Pubs found up north (Near Severograd). They're like giant log cabins. Each room is different, well-furnished, realistically cluttered and little in it is reused. It looks like a real place. Of course, these places wouldn't look right in any city but there are more than a few old towns near large pine forests where they still have the old, empty, boring pubs.
