therandomredstone 431 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) Ok, so there is MANY reasons to have a tent in DayZ. The MAIN reason, is stockpiling. you could just get so much food you can survive in seclusion for as long as you want, or store away all of your ammo, incase you need it in the future. But nobody can do this, because their tent will just be looted by someone else if they are offline for lets say, a day or two. But, to get people to seek out tents, AND keep the "realism" effect, if you left a server, your tent wouldn't leave for a full hour. then it would "re-spawn" next time you join into the same server. The reason it would take an hour before it despawns, would be, for instance, a friend is aiming at your tent, and you are miles away from your tent and your friend says "DUDE SOMEONES LOOTING YOUR TENT" the majority of people would just instantly leave the game, and there tent would "leave" with them. But if the "wait an hour" idea was implemented, then you couldn't just "leave the game" because that player could still use/loot/ or even take your tent, for the hour you're not online.NO PLAYER AT ALL in DayZ is going to put things in their tent, because they know sooner or later, it would be looted. So as of now, tents are useless, only used for their looks. The hard truth is, if you want anyone to use the tents in DayZ like you would in real life, then the "tent despawning after an hour of you leaving, and respawing when you re-join the server" idea HAS to be put in. When admins, and/or Dev members read this, just make a simple toll. And before you know it, there will be a new type of players in DayZ, with new goals, that lead to different missions, different ideas, and most importantly, different people. When I bought this game, and I read "do not by this game unless you are willing to contribute to the development of this game" I agreed to that statement, and I'm just doing my part. MartinD (DayZ) 86 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) Persistent tents in the mod worked great, they gave people another reason to go to NW or far N of the map either to hide a tent or in search of tents. I tried to, but just can't see the benefit of tents despawning after an hour. I can't count the number of times I've actually been saved by finding a random tent in the middle of nowhere with an item i was desperately in need of, or running to a friends tent for a bandage or mag that ended up saving my life. Your argument of "NO PLAYER AT ALL in DayZ is going to put things in their tent, because they know sooner or later, it would be looted" is you applying your view to the majority, when infact the majority have been using persistent tents in the mod for a long long time. wooly-back-jack 294 Posted November 23, 2014 I haven't tried the new tents yet, looking at the pics I wouldn't want to anyway.Maybe if we had the old camo tents from the mod, I would. Those tents I loved, set them down cleverly to make them blend in with surroundings, next to stone walls etc, so they looked like part of the wall from above in a chopper :)

5mirkeh 98 Posted November 24, 2014 My tents never got looted in the mod. I hid them well. :3Whenever I found a tent I just threw it down wherever without a care for what might happen, But that was incredibly rare becuase of how much of a bad DayZ player I am . . . rybec 339 Posted November 24, 2014 Tents remaining on the server in the mod was a great thing. It left a nice place for you to dump some extra things that you wanted to keep, but were okay with losing in the event it got found. I'm highly opposed to having them disappear after you log out for the fact that it shouldn't be a guaranteed safe storage. If you don't want to have it looted, get creative with a good spot to place it. It also created some great chances of running through the woods and feeling like you struck a goldmine when you spotted a tent, ran over, and found a clan's stockpile. I have a place where I left my tents in the mod and had them looted 0 times.
threedogification 41 Posted November 24, 2014 I hide my tents in places so obvious that people wouldn't think to look there, that's because people overthink and look in places where they think it would be
