'Incapacitated' state needed before Char Death

I really feel like we are missing out on one of the best potential parts of DayZ gameplay - those critical moments when hunter meets their prey and life/death hangs in the balance.

What I'm talking about is the interaction between a player that being taken down, has lost the fight, and is about to die and the interaction with his/her potential killer. Begging for life, allowing victim/killer to say last words, apologies, give reasons for kill, trash talk, etc. For all naysayers, this could be a admin select-able option.

I would like to see a system that when your health drops to zero, you enter the incapacitated state rather than death. At that time you character:

  • Is still alive

  • Cannot move and is in no way a threat to any other character

  • CAN speak and hear on voice chat - to do everything mentioned above.

  • Enters 1st person mode so they can only look around (move their head).

  • No longer takes damage

  • No longer heals

At this point, the incapacitated player has two options:

  1. The incapacitated player can choose to respawn (if they don't want to interact)
  2. The incapacitated player can move their head and speak to interact with others - to beg for life, etc.

Anyone around them (be they the killer, friend, foe, etc) has the following options: 1. Obviously interact with the incapacitated player - say what they have to say - listen to pleas for mercy, apologize for any misunderstands, whatever.

  1. Actually kill them by putting a weapon in their hand and selecting the "kill" option. At this point the incapacitated character sees Death Screen and can no longer hear and see anything (and must respawn).

  2. Restrain the player (if they intend to revive them).

  3. Revive the player - requires both saline bag AND a nutritional IV. If this option is taken, then after 60 seconds, the incapacitated player starts to recover health and blood normally.

Of course, this whole system would be even more awesome if the incapacitated player shows an animation with blood, struggling in pain, etc for extra effect.

This post is really confusing as there is an unconscious state before death  :huh:

 

Also having legs broken so you pretty can only crawl....

Hi Caboose187,

 

Yes, I'm at about 400 hours.  With all due respect, there is currently no character state in the game that lets you simultaneous:

 

1.  Be alive and conscious

2.  Allow you to interact verbally with your attacker

3.  Be completely helpless and at the mercy and your life be in the hands of your attacker

4.  Gives your attacker / captor TIME they need to interact with you and decide what to do with you.

 

Being unconscious is related to other factors, shock, etc.  but right now there's no way to "take someone down" where they can't hurt you, but then decide what to do with them (without time constraints of them bleeding out, etc.

 

An incapacitate state allows that type of interaction to occur so that you can:

 

- Just go ahead and respawn - dead

- Beg for your life while not being a threat to anyone

- give your attacker/captor the choice and the TIME to decide whether to revive you or just finish you off without you bleeding out or dying on them before they get to decide.

So your suggestion is essentially making everyone invincible, regardless of weather or not someone just ventilated their skull with an gun?

 

I'm afraid that gets a nope from me.

Maybe as a solution to this  - the game could have a 'semi-conscious' state ?

like, cut the "unconscious" state into two parts

 

.. e.g. so that instead of going from "STARVING" to "UNCONSCIOUS" then "YOU ARE DEAD"

the player would go from "STARVING" to "SEMI-CONSCIOUS"  then "UNCONSCIOUS" then "..DEAD"

 

this wouldn't change the gameplay or mess up the points systems (much?)  but it would simply make the first half of "UNCONSCIOUS" into "SEMI-CONCIOUS" where you have the abilities/the inabilities, that roninhg suggests .. so maybe before you died of starvation you could lie helpless and groan/squeak aloud for help for a short while, then pass out..  same thing for physical damage

[edit]: in the case of starvation, it would definitely be more realistic to go through a state of physical incapacitation before falling unconscious - instead of running along 'starving' and then suddenly falling unconscious.. and the same mechanism could work in many physical damage situations that ATM take you straight into "unconscious" .. if they were bad enough in the points inflicted, you would fall unconscious immediately , if they were slightly less bad you'd fall 'semi conscious', then slide (e.g. bleed out) into unconscious etc, or recover as at present in the game..

 

the idea of calling for help or seeing and/or talking to nearby players interests me more than the idea of special torture possibilities... ( not really my thing, I'm just a clean-kill guy) - basically this is a few moments of "too weak to move" time that comes before unconsciousness.

OP I have to agree with Caboose on this one - if I decide to shoot out your legs and handcuff your ass, you are very much incapacitated but still able to call me all the nasty things you like before I decide to shoot you in the head for being an annoyance overall. In the event I choose not to bandage you while I have you incapacitated then you will bleed out to the point of unconsciousness where you will have the option to respawn if you so choose or you can just continue to die. If I leave you in this state and go about my merry way you might be found and saved by some kindly passerby or just continue bleeding out. In the event I decide I want to play with you some more I can bandage you to keep you alive longer and if you have passed out I can use an epi-pen to wake you back up for some more verbal abuse. All the while, as long as I have you handcuffed, you have the option to log out and die to escape the ordeal. Everything you have described is already in the game except not taking damage (really bad idea) and not healing (not sure what the point is).

 

Now I have to ask the same question Caboose asked.... have you played DayZ?

 if you want to taunt your victim or gloat over their body like some FPS: 

 

1. dont shoot them

2. knock them out with a punch

3. handcuff them.

4. place bag over their head.

5. profit???

 

 

if you choose to have a shoot out, deal with the result that a bullet brings.

Tbh, I don't mind this idea. Seems pretty cool. Your characters vision could also be very gray and blurry. But like, you only have so long before you die, so like, 30 secs in which your attacker can interact. FINALLY, this state should only happen when a characters health reduces to zero, without a wound to either the head, heart, or lungs. Yes, its not realistic, but sometimes you have to sacrifice realism for content...

 

I don't know about you all, but I don't see very many zombies running around, and I can fall well over 2 meters without breaking my leg.
