Server Restart Warnings

Recommended Posts

Just an example. Tonight I was playing and I hunted a deer. I then went to skin the animal. I of course dropped my pot on the ground to collect the meat.....server reset. I was unable to log back on the server, or able to recover my pot which had 3 pieces of meat.  I have had this happen before when I have had gear on the ground. We should really have a warning that says, "5 minutes server will restart". It was not a huge loss, but its a little annoying. I also had it happen while I lit fires too.

Its not a huge deal really, and honestly It was not a huge loss. But this has happened to me a few times so far. Its one of the reasons why I no longer carry 2 rifles. You just sometimes don't know. Sometimes its easy to predict sometimes not at all. Its a legit request. Maybe its been brought up before not sure.

Before weather effects this was not as big of a deal. You just knew to keep your crap on you. Now we sometimes have to leave items on the ground. Then a server restart, and there is sometimes no way to recover them. So a warning would be really nice so we know to keep are stuff on our avatars til restart. The problem is we can't always log back on the server that just restarted. That's IF persist is on.  Its become a bit more of an issue sometimes.

Also if there is anyway to completely avoid this sort of thing for the time being, please let me know, I know there are others who had the same issue so it can help them too.

Things like this is why I always say 50% knowlege of game mechanics, 50% real world common since.

You can only give out warning-messages if it is a scheduled restart and more often than not it may just be a crash happening.

At the very early stage of this game servercrashes will be a frequent thing - but I expect that to change.

Oh, and: most server-admins have access to the restart-scheduler. It's up to the Admins to include warnings, not the Dev-Team.

That makes since and explains allot of why some servers are easier to predict the others. If thats the case then last night was probably a crash, there was no warning. Afterwards I was unable to log back on the server too, prob becuase it was just down for a while. Its been happening since I have been playing, Im just notice it more now that we have items we use on the ground for durations of time.
