So hard to find mosin/attachments, or is it me?

Hey guys

So I'm pretty new to DayZ standalone, only played about 40 hours, however I've got to grips with it pretty well, you know, I can get myself from town to town, knowing my whereabouts and squiring decent loot. For the time I have been playing I have been searching and searching for specifically a mosin, and of course attachments, however just can NEVER find one! Am I looking in the wrong places? Are they actually quite rare? I am confused because when I talk to players they say AK's are rare, but I find LOADS of them, and I do mean loads. So can somebody maybe tell me, where can you find them? Which buildings/cities e.t.c... Also, are M4's only spawned at heli crash sites?

Yes, m4's are only at crash sights. I usually find mosins in police stations, occasionally an apartment building, and the Novo tower quite often. the scopes and such I find a lot in the novo tower, and pretty randomly scattered about. ammo is usually at police stations, airfields, and other military installations.

the M4A1 and its attachments can only be found at helicopter crashsites, the attachments for the mosin are uncommon but are found at a variety of places

Mosins don't seem particularly rare to me. I carry one and I've come across several others. I suppose you're just unlucky.

Every build I end up with a mosin with long rang, its my fav rifle. Its can be hard to find all the attachments, but I noticed some areas or building types a far better then others.

 

Storage Garages(for ammo and attachments for the mosin), Taverns, School Houses, PD and Baracks is were there most common.

 

Oh the big city center tower in Novo, walk in the empty handed and you can come out with 2 or 3 guns lol. Novo is the easiest it seems by far to find a mosin with and all the fixings, comp, long range, pu, paint, and burlap sack. That city has everything you need I sware, pistols all the civ gear you can think off...not any mil loot though lol. If I am ever a fresh spawn I always prey to spawn there lol. Best dam city on the map a close second is Cherno!

I often play Mosin "only" for a long period of time and I usually manage to find everything within 30/40 minutes. Cherno, Elektro, Severograd are pretty good for example.
Look for the (three storey I think) building with blue doors on both sides (with the stairs and the shelves upstairs), there's a ton of long range scopes in there and mosin compensators.

 

You can find the mosins in there as well, but even more often in schools (top room or roof) and  construction sites (look everywhere) & taverns/bars (look everywhere), in police stations & the long brown barns as well. And the piano houses too.

Mosin, attachments, and ammo can all be found at most of the civilian residential spawns. Sometimes they are hard to find as with all the residential weapons..it's really hit or miss. For instance I just found a shotgun under one of those little blue cart things with wheels on the side of houses that spawns industrial stuff. Before that I scavenged all of elektro and found nothing. Although I've been playing .50 experimental, I've had better luck in 0.49.

 

Weapons are generally rare.

Its really a matter of luck, and experience. first of all you NEED to know the right buildings to look in, ALWAYS look in the 2 story, 3 rooms or more houses for mosins, these buildings are always in citys and in smaller towns. So basically you can find mosins and guns anywhere besides small one story houses, and really small 2 story houses. Just stay wary, and you will find one soon!

The scopes often spawn in garages. If you find a row of five or more garages theres bound to be at least one long range scope there.

Piano houses/garages seem like good spots to find Mosins and attachments. I got a Mosin + LRS + compensator in those places.

If you're finding "LOADS" of AK's but no Mosin's it suggests you're only looting military bases. Try looking through a city as suggested by others. I once found a mosin, lrs, compensator and 3 boxes of ammo in some tiny little village in the middle of no-where inland. Any town can have them if it has a pub building and a piano house.
