Dayz Tents and Items?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm thinking of being that type of character that loots small towns and such and goes back to "his little camp up in the woods" with his campfire, and his tent with supplies in it, etc.. But I dare not hunt for a tent if all that is going to happen is ill place a tent, put TONS of loot in it, leave the server and join back and finding out someone found my tent and looted it. What I'm asking is technically two things, 1. Will a tent basically "leave the game with me" and when I come back on that same server it "respawns in the same location with all my stuff" or if it will stay there ALL NIGHT when I'm sleeping, allowing a potential player to stumble upon it and take whatever he pleases. and 2. If I join a "persistence on" server, and place a m4 in a bush in the middle of nowhere, will it stay there between server restarts? and until another player finds it?

The reason I ask these questions is because I would like to have a FULL OUT camp, a camp with a tent, a nice campfire, things in the tent and things on the ground surrounding my tent. But if I make this "awesome camp" and I leave the game for 12 hours and join back. I want my things to still be there, and the only way to guarantee that, is to know if the tent "leaves the game when I do"

So any answers?

Here you go:

1. This is a game, and as such, some things are not the way they are supposed to be (i.e. re-spawning when killed).  The nice thing about the tents is precisely that they can be found!....if you take out that single risk factor, much of the game play will be lost....my opinion!

2. I left 2 AKM´s near my tents to double check if they will be there next time I am near my camp site.  To my bad luck, both servers went dead...so I still dont know if this works...

Cheers mate.

Thank you, so what you are saying is that if your tents de-spawned when you despawned then it would make the game that much more un realistic and technically unfair, I get that, and I agree. I just wanted to clarify before I had put down a tent. Thanks!

1. Tents persist even when you aren't on, so make sure you have a good spot.

2. Items not in tents, stashes, or vehicles are deleted on server resets.

As a side note, I would recommend making a stash instead of a tent. It is much easier to find the materials for than finding an actual tent and much harder to spot. Find a shovel and a sandbag and you are good to go. From there all you need is wood and then eventually nails to make your own hidden hole in the ground that can hold like 15 weapons and nearly a hundrend items. You could even just pack/unpack your tent and put it inside your stash once you have one; a tent is good to have for when you get sick as using the "rest" option has a chance (not sure how much) of curing you.

Don´t sweat it guys.....TENTS ARE NOT persistent.

Here my list of servers where I placed one tent each:

1. Florida 2-0  (dead)

2. Florida 2-10 (dead)

3. Georgia 2-18 : tent disappeared.

4. Dayz Atlanta 4-009 (Fragnet): we place it, put some stuff in it, logged out and then the server was reset (30 minutes later), we log in and the tent was gone.

The only one we have some doubts is the one in GA, since it may be found....but they are bugged as hell.

I don´t know if we are doing something wrong but we tried with doors closed, open, etc.  None of them seem to be working (as related to persistence).

Cheers.

Chaos: where or how do you craft sandbags? is that on stable 0.49?....or is it on experimental 0,50?....I am referring to stable and didn´t know you can craft sandbags!....please clarify?

Thanks!

Tents used to be good, but maybe they got broke somewhere along the way. They are supposed to stay put though and save your stuff, though note that tents, like stashes, are only on the server you placed them.

Anyway for stashes, you find sandbags in industrial loot piles, so warehouses, little sheds that sometimes have car parts, train cars, etc. You don't actually craft them. You can find nails in the same places. Once you have the sandbag you just right click it or the e-tool (don't remember which but one has "create stash" and the other prompts you to make a sandbag wall). The starter stash is bad, but you have an upgrade option on it that needs woodpiles (chop down trees, right click the logs and do what it says, right click that to get your piles) and then eventually nails. As far as I know stashes have been in for a couple updates at least so it definitely seems stable. Server I'm on my stashes have been there since I put them up about a week and a half ago and that server has 4 times a day server restarts.

Tents for me persist after server restart. Some servers may have a feature that deletes tents which were not used for some days/weeks.

Also, as most people squeeze their tents underneath pinetrees, they might disappear due to that placement.

As for the other question in the first post: All items on the map NOT stored away in a tent or vehicle disappear on server restart.

This is necessary, because if everything is persistent, and loot keeps spawning, the map soon will be full of stuff and that will kill the performance.

But if you really want to experience DayZ while being able to settle, try Epoch. Big part of the DayZ experience is losing your belongings to others or by dying.

If you want to own more than you can carry or want to save stuff for your next life, you have to be clever hiding it.

Stashes... never placed one. As far as I understood it, you only need etool and sandbag, and you can upgrade it with wood. It turns into a medium stash

after five upgrades. Not until then you can acutally store a single weapon in them! Medium stash can then be upgraded five more times, doubling weapon slots each time.

For that you officially needs wood and crates. Has that been replaced by nails??? I think I never found a crate OR nails^^

So basically it's a hell of a task until it really becomes useful. Then again it's well hidden. I'll maybe try putting a simple one down for storing medicals and consumables.
