Any of you guys wonder what time period dayz is in.

Well year determines a lot when it comes to the game of DayZ as it involves what weapons we can and cannot see, as I've been wanting to see an introduction to two weapons for a while now, firstly the Glock 17. It's a very simple yet reliable gun, also the rounds aren't the most expensive. And also the Browning HP, this gun isn't much special over the Glock, it's less reliable, less range and overall isn't as good however it's just my personal favourite. So guys we CAN confirm the game is set after 1955, I think it was actually 1959 the AKM was introduced, I cannot be arsed to google it because I've been awake all night however it was some point in the 50's or early 60's, I remember reading 1959 in a book for one of the AK's and I'm sure it was the AKM but anyways that is that. Now the AK-101 was made in the 90's so we can confirm it's a fairly modern setting. Anyways what is your opinion on what year it is? Is it in the 90's or modern day? Comment what you all think :)

Tbh ive always wanted to "link" DayZ with the current ArmaVerse Timeline :)

 

Althought it might be abit difficult to do, and DayZ might be an alternative timeline, Arma II events in Chernarus takes place from 2009 and onward, for a couple of years.

So its closer to present time then anything in my world.

The M4, the broken down HMMWV's and the heli crashes would also suggest its quite recent times.

 

But thats just my opinion :)

Yeah, but there is ALWAYS a rich crime lord, his minions and corrupt officials that have cars other than the usual Moskovitchs, Ladas or UAZs.   After the fall of the old SU Moscow blossomed with Mercedez Benz's, BMW's and others almost over night.

Anyhow, you guys are approaching the car situation all wrong. Obviously when the dead started walking, people left in their best vehicles, leaving only the old wrecks behind. Why do you think none of these cars drive anyway? Crime lord would've probably left in his chopper.

Correction! Chernarus is NOT socialist! It's a relatively young democratic republic founded after the collapse of the USSR, and has been molded by years of civil strife and economic stagnation. Their best known exports include beer, lumber, more beer, more lumber, and Takistani oil. While there is an appreciable level of corruption in the north and eastern parts of the country (those most sympathetic to the ideals of Russia, much akin to Ukraine), the government is still very pro NATO and the population is extremely nationalistic, to the point that the actual Nationalist party has a pseudo military arm.

 

It's a bit complicated, and nothing you could learn without a bit of digging.

 

As for the setting, it's set sometime between 2013 (date of CDF peacekeeping in Takistan) and 2017, confirmed by multiple food models containing the date.

But it might actually take place several years after, as Chernarus has been "buld up" quite alot (new towns and cities, bigger apartments, more people in general) and that takes time.

Arma III doesnt take place before 2035, so there alot of time in between tbh.

Which kinda makes sense, with the amount of new towns and buildings and such. That would take a long time to create IRL.

Its abit strange they do it in such a minor post though, when its such a big deal to the community tbh.

Lore and background story has been discussed on the forums a million times by now, so i would have hoped for some kind of very tranperant post from the devs about it really :)

The new skin for the epipen that came with .48 has an expiration date of 2015.  Thats about one of the only actual date references in the game that I know of.

 

I don't think that helps though, as it could easily be before or after that expiration date.
