Feature to make your own maps.

Recommended Posts

 I would like for everyone to be able to make thier own maps for DayZ Standalone.

The current map is too large for it's own good.

 

 

 Letting the players make thier own maps will allow players to make and join maps that are suited to their style

of gameplay.

 

 

This will also bring old players in to adapt to situations that they might not be used to.

 

 

 

And playing the same map gets very boring; it it hasn't for you -- it will.

If or when they allow a public files release thats when you will see things along these lines from the modding community.  That said, the files are not public and to make a map in Arma is not as simple as here is my map in Arma.  Not to shoot down your idea but its not like HALO forge mode.

I doubt the difficulty to making a map will deter many modders in doing so.

If and when they could make a map; they would.

 

 

I know it's not simple as halo's forge mode.

That's an extreme understatement.

There have been improvements for map making in A3 but they hardly make it easier if anything its more of a pain in the arse.  Many have asked on the BI forums for easier Island/Map making but I do not see it in the near future.  As you have said there are plenty still out there willing to mod and if the files were made public there are plenty of maps to port.

when icebreaker made maps i believe it was his 2nd map and he made it along with another guy it took 6 months of work to get to a release state with further time spent on fixing issues before that there was about 2 months of research into columbia and venezuela.

 

making maps on VBS is not quick and is definitely not easy a lot never make it to having any items/houses or even trees placed on them and the ones that do have a lot of issues.

 

mapmaking would be a possibility it was said with the modding, but i doubt there would be a mass influx of maps made.

 

as for getting bored of chernarus i have been playing that map for about 5 years as have many, i have not grown tired of it yet

That's true. There are plenty of maps to port over when and if that does happen.

 

I hope the files do become public, so we can atleast have more variety

in the future.

I hope for this too, the Northern coast of Maine is perfect for this game.

 

Thick woods, small cities and small sparse rural towns, and plenty of islands.

 

actually, This area in particular

 

 

 

 

specifically the Bar Harbor area, Schudic, and Acadia.

 

 

 

Here, have a map of the area to give a good idea of why its good

As you can see, it offers many unique areas, chokepoints, a mix of woods and city. Theres even an airport, for you damned server hoppers.
