More realistic inventory

Sometimes when I play and I have lots of gear, I notice myself thinking that I should not be able to carry all the stuff I have in the manner that I am carrying it. For example, when is the last time you managed to fit a protector case in a pair of jeans in real life? Or a fireplace kit inside a tactical vest? 

 

So, I would suggest the following: Break inventory space of individual items of clothing, and maybe that of backpacks too. For instance, instead of just a big 4-slot inventory space, your jeans would have four individual slots to put stuff in. This would force you to carry bigger items in your backpack, as well as make you think long and hard about what to take and what to leave.

As much as I'm all for the realism and authentic experience, their comes a time where you need to draw the line. We must remember this is a game for our enjoyment, not to literally see if we could survive a disaster of this magnitude. This would just push the game too far in my opinion (MY OPINION, keep that in mind), and would rather the inventory stay as is.

 

Not everything can be realistic, otherwise why can't I shove a pistol down the back of my pants, why can't I do more with rope, or duct tape my fingers and run around as some little kid's version of a supervillain or whatever. Limits, we need them.

they Would Need to Recalibrate all Sizes

Clips Should Fit in Pockets of Cargos and Jeans even if Poking out xD 

With that System i think Cargos Need More than 6 Spaces

4x Single Spaces+2x Double Tall Spaces

and a Screwdriver (which I Carry in my Pockets at Home (Smaller than a can of Beans) is same size as a Hacksaw(That already Needs to be Fixed)

Pistols should Take 3 Spaces Like this xD

and Let us Rotate Items Like in Deus Ex (Backpack Tetris Anyone) ^_^

Yes please - why would you want it to be trivial to use your inventory to maximum capacity? Of cause brainlessly stuffing items inside your clothes should still work to an extend - it should not be impossible to play the game without playing inventory tetris. But it definitely should net you an advantage if you do.

it adds the advantage if you use your Brain you can Squeeze in an extra Few Spaces in the Deal that Can be gratifying ^_^

for those who Dont care Just pretend that Pistols are Still 4 Spaces and ignore that Extra Golden Square of Storage Between the Body and Grip

(And for those who think its Dumb Because they only want  PVP, When does Catching a Player Sorting his inventory not Benifit you?)

It creates an extra layer of difficulty, IMO. Instead of just shoving as much stuff in your inventory as you have slots for, you would have to be considerate. "I can either take this protector case full of stuff I need, or a fireplace kit to keep me from freezing."

It disallows putting big and cumbersome items inside containers that should not be able to hold them and thus allows for more viability options in items (e.g. Derringer or knives fit into pockets but Magnum or Machete do not).

 

It also rewards you for using your brain instead of just running around spamming F while looting. In extension it gives you the choice of "fast looting" - putting stuff into your pockets quickly at the cost of being able to take less - and "diligent looting" - carefully sorting in loot to carry as much as possible at the cost of speed and security.

 

To make this clear: I would like both methods to be viable. Players should not be forced into elaborate inventory tetris but they should be rewarded if they choose to.

It's definately an interesting idea. I think this sort of thing needs to be thought about long and hard before any changes are made to the current system though. I have no problems with playing inventory tetris, and I kinda like the idea of rotating items.

 

Something else to think about is item weight. a pair of damaged cargo pants might start ripping if you load up the pockets with cans of beans and then take off at a jog. Though, that thought probably goes in another thread.

It was just an example, not a legit suggestion. Assuming you read everything, my idea behind stating that was because it is possible to do in reality, whether it be a smart one or not. If you didn't read everything, go back, take your sweet time, and read it all :) Thanks

I think we need this, as well as the little hidden boxes for knifes in boots, hooks in boonie hats for stacks of items that are tiny like pens, could also be good if you wanna stick a pistol in the back of your jeans or a knife in your belt.

Backbacks should work more like the mod where you had to stop and open them to fish out what you wanted.

Item sizes really need to make more sense.

Yep it is one of those many DayZ topics that we question... where do we draw the line on realism ?.. I do agree carrying a storage case in your jean pockets is somewhat absurd but shit man I couldnt think of anything that would irritate the living shit out of me more than being a new spawn and finding a nice enough 2 slot item that I could not fit in my jeans..

 

I'm very much on the fence with this one but considering the kind of game dayz is we could well see it implemented one day. I honestly would not be surprised

Breaking it down to pockets would be a pretty good idea. If you get shot in a pocket that has something that could possibly stop a bullet - it will save your life. While the stuff in the rest of your pockets remains untouched and not insta-ruined.

Breaking it down to pockets would be a pretty good idea. If you get shot in a pocket that has something that could possibly stop a bullet - it will save your life. While the stuff in the rest of your pockets remains untouched and not insta-ruined.

Incredibly unlikely that anything you'd fit into a jean pocket will stop a rifle bullet, especially at DayZ ranges ie. 10 meters.

I`m not expecting an apple to stop a bullet, but other items can. And if not bring a full stop maybe lower the damage.

Agreed, Though that brings another issue to the fore, item sizing is done in 2d, like you're going to struggle to fit a can of spaghetti into a tight jean pocket
