DayZ Vanilla Mod

Recommended Posts

Over the short time DayZ has been out it has won over my heart, and I absolutely love it. Even if it has its bugs, hackers, and the constant KoS and immature mentality of some players. Though now with recent changes it seems that the people who are keeping up with the Mod want to make it SA, and I really do not want that. The main reason, which should be obvious, is that we already have SA. I don't want the Mod to become like SA, because I like the slight differences and the unique aspects of both.

Just some suggestions for both:

  • Stop making the Mod like SA, but if not:
  • Bloodtype should be assigned to playerIDs rather than change each time you spawn in.
In SA it is already hard enough finding any medical supplies, especially a blood test kit.
In the Mod, I don't mind having the different blood types, even though I think that is a feature that should stick to SA, but the test kits are hard to find and most servers will probably just have O- spawn.
  • Zombies hit range needs to be changed, as a new spawn you are bombarded with zombies which is a-okay, but it seems they have Mister Fantastic arms. As for SA, zombies can still hit through walls and on lower levels of the floors.
  • Melee in SA is still bad.
  • The eating/drinking system needs a definite rework to change how much is consumed. If we're going realistic, we'd all be 900+ lbs with diabetes with how much we consume in 7 days.
In SA: No person should have to eat a bag of rice, box of cereal and then chug down many cans of soda or drink gallons from a fountain to feel full and hydrated. I am hoping you can make 'meals' which you have to boil the rice and then have the option to add meat to it to make it hearty and that will give you more food than just say gobbling down the cooked rice.
In Mod: Not only is it freakin' hard to find drinks, but you can't even drink from fountains/ponds (yet?), and then food is eh and it still takes a lot consume to get you back on your feet. If you don't find a drink within 15 minutes you start to lose blood, added with Mr. Fantastic zombies and your new spawn experience of 30 minutes is dying of blood loss. Oh.. fun, okay.

Basically playing a game shouldn't feel like work or a chore. We play games for a reason, to get from the real world.

They have many parallel objectives

Agreed

Survive!

Yep but they are working on it

Survival games are intended to be tedious

Bloodtype should be assigned to playerIDs rather than change each time you spawn in.

If blood type is changing each time you login we need to look into it as blood types should only change on death.

Zombies hit range needs to be changed, as a new spawn you are bombarded with zombies which is a-okay, but it seems they have Mister Fantastic arms.

If we lower there hit range any more we may as well remove the zeds as they would not be able to hit a player.

Eating and drinking system was new on the last version its still being tweaked it will take a some time to get it working fully.

Like R4Z0R said - the zombies had a lower attack range before and they simply couldn't hit you unless you stopped moving.

The zombies have to stop moving to play the attack animation (Arma AI issue, there's nothing that can be done about it unfortunately), so the only way to make them actually able to hit a player is to give them a slightly buffed attack range.

Also if we were to have a single blood type per player then they might as well be removed IMO. Having to find a blood testing kit before you're able to get a blood transfusion is part of the challenge. It just adds another thing to the "to-do list" of a newly spawned character.

And you can now cook meat or fish if you need to heal faster. But there is something you need to do before rushing in pvp area : finding tools to survive.
For me, blood bag is only useful if you're doing pvp with a team. If you're alone, you can take more time to heal, avoid other people is not a problem.

DayZ mod Vanilla is not SA, but remember, the DayZ mod was an alpha version of SA (http://dayzmod.com/ here you can see "Download (Alpha Test)").

Maybe you started playing DayZMod when other DayZ mods were born, when people rushed and didn't care about zombies, they just wanted to pvp.
When I started in 2012, in the first month, players were wary for the zombies, be stealth was something realy important, it was a game about survival before PvP. And now, since 1.8, I have the feeling that the good days of DayZ Mod are back. For many people Vanilla Mod became harder, but it always was in Vanilla.

To end this too long answer (I'm sorry x_x), Vanilla Mod is not like SA. SA is like the Mod were aimed to be.

I think what Elegantly meant was "each time you start a new life". However, I don't think that the bloodtype should be tied to the ID, because that would be unfair. Some players would have bloodtypes that are harder to deal with than others.

[in response to: The eating/drinking system needs a definite rework to change how much is consumed. If we're going realistic, we'd all be 900+ lbs with diabetes with how much we consume in 7 days.]

Eating and drinking system was new on the last version its still being tweaked it will take a some time to get it working fully.

Well, is it actually being tweaked then? I totally agree with the OP in that the current amount of food/drinks required is nuts. It also takes away a lot of inventory room, which has become very scarce anyway. In my opinion, it would be much better to lower the number of food spawns significantly and return to a far higher hunger/thirst restoration for each item consumed. The difficulty level could be almost unaffected, but it would feel much less unrealistic/annoying. The current way significantly impairs the immersion for me. It's just annoying when you feel super thirsty again only minutes after you emptied that last pond you came across. Or need like ten cans of pasta to be full.

Also, I would like to ask the devs a related question: Is the way transfusing blood works right now how you intend it to be? I'm asking because ever since the bloodtypes have been introduced, blood transfusions are de facto out of the game. It's just waaaay too tedious and needs too many items. If anybody, only group players can really do it in 1.8. I used to offer stranger survivors/heroes (hell, even bandits!) a blood transfusion a lot before the change, but now if I manage to carry around all required items for a change, all I hear from them is that they'd rather go hide somewhere until their blood restores automatically. Not much fun, frankly.

Transferring blood is transferring blood so yes its is working as we wanted. This being said the system needs some love we need the system to be much faster to transfer to players to make it more useful but trying to find a way to handle the realism + meta play styles isn't always as easy.

Eating will be adjusted for a while.
