Get rid of the ambient sounds.

Recommended Posts

Please, for the love of rasputin kvass, remove all of the ambient noises without proper ingame sources from the game. This is supposed to be a survival game. If I hear birds chirping, I want actual birds to be there. If I hear the sound of a fence shaking, I want that to be because someone just ran into the fence, etc. etc.

All of these extra noises that just appear out of nowhere, serve no purpose but to distract you from what's going on around you.

Birds in trees and fences blowing in the wind. People aren't the only things that make sound. :S

Indeed, all sounds need a certain and logical source, except wind gusts. Doors may be moved by the wind and thus creaking 'by themselves' without the need of a player opening it.

Further, sounds should be global. Two players being apart a few metres (whatever 'few' may be) should have exactly the same environmental sounds.

But there don't need to be birds visible to hear them (though it would contribute to the world). When you walk through a forest IRL you hear birds all the time without seeing them.

Some ambient noises should occasionally show up. Like I disagree with you on the bird noises.

In fact, I'd like more different ambient animal noises. At this point, I don't need bird animations in trees (yet)

But sometimes I hear sounds like some animal munching something, or like you said, gates closing, and no matter how little wind there is or how far away I am from the coast, there's this constant rushing noise that annoys the hell outta me. Not to mention the weird "WHAA?" animal noise I can't define.

So yes. Please work on the ambient noises.

This I definitely agree with.

You probably should have phrased the title differently, but yeah, if the ambient sounds came from actual sources in game it would be awesome. However there are so many other things with higher priority to do\fix..

And sounds like opened can or emptied ammo box / ammo splitting is triggered by ?

Sounds are broken, there is no arguing here, they have been since ever.

But the birds are still there, even if you don't see them.

If I hear a bird singing, there should be a bird nearby. I should be able to tell where the sound is coming from, go over and find it, kill it, and eat it. And if there aren't any birds nearby, there shouldn't be any bird singing.

In a game like DayZ where you're expected to rely on logic to figure things out, the world needs to strictly adhere to this logic. If there's a sound, there should be a source for the sound.

Fence noises in the middle of the forest where the closest fence is 2 miles away sounds stupid. But I do agree it may not be top priority to fix these.

Slightly off topic... but. Every issue is justified with "Alpha". Since December 2013. Every aspect stays in Alpha. Nothing ever leaves the Alpha status. What about fixing one by one? Such as those random illogical sounds. Does fixing one thing "for good" prevent the forthcoming of other stuff afterwards?

An idea comes up -- people can make birds scared so they land up, lets say a guy is coming from the forest and I see a bird taking off, there's someone there then.

If I hear a bird singing, there should be a bird nearby.

This has a lot of impact on performance or reduces the instances of birds singing by a lot causing a less "living" world. Though it might work if little critters like birds would only appear via some event system: If you hear a bird and get close it either goes silent or flies away. In the latter case a bird appears ingame while the former case just makes the sound go silent. Might not happen with birds far up in some trees - unless you cut the tree in question. Now with no players around small critters should be removed to have less impact on performance (keeping track of thousands of birds, mice etc. is costly).

Ambient sounds caused by wind etc. should still be played - maybe louder or more often if there is more wind giving you some feedback here.

Or, have say 50-100 birds per restart, or maybe 2-3 per square kilometer

This is alpha, I know the fence sounds with no fences around are stupid, but the sound team is currently working on the phantom zed sounds (which I think is way more important to be fixed), so give them some time.

They surely are smart enough to make sounds "logical" (and I bet it's planned), but how can you COMPLAIN about something, which is not working, in the SUGGESTIONS topic of an ALPHA stage game?!?!?! So please, for the love of rasputin kvass, make a suggestion that is not related to the fact, that the dev team just hasn't had the time to implement the system properly!!!

This is Alpha, where we're SUPPOSED to complain about mistakes. That's sort of why we're here. Going "Meh, Alpher" and waiting for the full release before complaining is doing it wrong.

Ok, three things:

1. Suggesting and complaining about mistakes are two different things! Suggesting is making a SUGGESTION about how new features could improve the gameplay, whereas complaining is about telling the Dev's what is not working.

2. "Complaining about mistakes" belonges to the bug report section, not the suggestion part! I found EXACTLY THIS TOPIC (!!!) on the bug report page. Guess what, is was posted in Februrary this year. So insead of spamming the forum with an irrelevant post about an obvious bug*, which has already been reportet 7 months ago, you could have added your comment there and upvoted that post.

http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=8830

3. Think about this, the devs just added some ambient sounds, to create a placeholder for a proper ambient sound system in the game. Since there are more important tasks right now they won't focus on a minor issue, which is rather cosmetic, than an actual bug (like glitching zombies) or more important features in the game (barricading, cars, etc.). So what is more important in your opinion? Some ambient sounds or key elements of the game?

Slightly off topic... but. Every issue is justified with "Alpha". Since December 2013. Every aspect stays in Alpha. Nothing ever leaves the Alpha status. What about fixing one by one? Of course it is justified with alpha. I can't understand why people keep asking for minor details to be working instead of key elements of the game. I hope they won't fix this problem until they have all thier main features in the game (cars, barricading, building, etc). If they start adressing this problem, they have less ressources on more important topics, which would be really stupid! So yes, this is ALPHA and that's the reason why a "bug"*, like this is irrelevant. If people don't like the ambient sounds, they sould wait until they are fixed in late alpha or beta and stop whining about them (which is not a suggestion).

* It's actually not a bug, it's rather a placeholder for a proper ambient sound feature.

Love it when I'm running across an open field and hear a fence move from what sounds like 3 meters away. =P

Welcome to the real world. Go hiking for a couple of days all by yourself and see how much extraneous bullshit you hear or think you hear.    I don't mind the ambient noise or even the disembodied Zombie vocalizations they all keep me alert.
