DayZ Enviroment

Recommended Posts

Recently I had the need to talk about the enviroment in DayZ.

Even from the mod days, everything in the world feels static, from trash cans to furniture inside the houses.

We know for a fact that physics in DayZ always had a very insignificant role.

In your opinion, what changes could be implmented,in order to make Chernarus more vivid and alive?

This is interesting, they have added the physics system for throwing ect. So maybe they could make some of the static models into proper physics enabled ones.

Id like if the old barricades from the mod were actually made of the right materials. Then hitting it would disturb it a bit, eventually it could be broken through (or slowly pushed through with a heavy vehicle). Maybe even let us get out of the car and disassemble it by hand.

Bins, heystacks, trees (moving with wind), some furniture, theres so much they could do. Guess they would want some more performance first though. Maybe after they finish the engine overhaul :)

Likely will never happen. Would cause inconsistencies across clients and cause major FPS loss (when we should be thinking of ways to make FPS better). If the physics were synced across all clients, the netcode wouldn't be able to keep up.

Ideally it would be a completely destructible and persistent world, but I don't think that's technically feasible.  The world would feel more "lived in" if you constantly came across evidence of the other players living in it.  Back in the mod days, the fact that player and zombie bodies stuck around after they died created at least somewhat of a dynamic environment.  Plus they were an added source of loot (and tension, as you didn't know who or what might have killed them).
