I never liked the third person view. It's far too easy to abuse to look around corners. The idea that you can look around corners, but your character aren't exposing himself is not good.

That is true, but everyone has that 'ability' in 3PP servers. It's not realistic in the least, but not at all different from other games played in 3PP. Hardcore servers eliminate the advantage for everyone, Regular servers allow everyone to use it. You can't really expect people in 3PP mode to give up on an ability because a few do not like it. It may sound unfriendly, but if people don't want 3PP advantages used against them, they can go play on a Hardcore server.

I AM NOT ARGUING THAT THE THIRD PERSON VIEW IS UNFAIR. IT IS NOT UNFAIR. IT IS PERFECTLY 100% FAIR.

True because everyone can use it to gain its advantages. However its effects on gameplay are bad. Allowing people a line of sight without being seen in return makes for some pretty stupid situations. Its less immersive because (1) having some camera flying behind your back while playing virtually distances you from your character (2) your overall awareness is way higher than in real life and (3) those peeking situations result in actions no real person would attempt simply because they can't see what they shouldn't. You can't just play in an immersive way on servers with third person enabled.

By allowing third person the developers rob themselves of options. Helmets obstructing vision, vision blocking obstacles, sneaking up on other players, scanning an area for enemies etc. Sure they could include this anyways but that would either buff third persoon even more compared to first or cause some critical design issues (converiting those things into third person).

So I voted for "no third person in DayZ" - not because I think third person is unfair but because I am 100% sure the game would be much better without. The only advantage I can see is allowing to see your characters stance more easily - which can (and should) be implemented into first person as well. Third person holds back potential and causes interesting features to be overlooked during development.

That should be an actual item in the game...

I think the third person view is good as it is. An over-the-shoulder view is, why I played only 3 minutes of Mass Effect in my whole life. Personally I prefer to play first person, but my friends like third person more. But to stay on topic, I think they shouldn't change it. Although the round view fives some advantage, the aiming in third person is so bad, that it is okay in the whole. That is my opinion and if anyone thinks different, that is okay for me.

The game looks nicer on 3rd Person view. I quite enjoy just walking around in the sunshine admiring the scenery (with me and my stuff in it).

Perhaps if they made the inventory system more visceral, so you had to remove you backpack and look inside to access stuff, and hold items up in front of yourself and look at them in order to examine/inspect them or carry out actions (rather than doing it through a clunky inventory menu), then it'd give first person view a greater appeal?

Since we have segregated third and 1st person servers now...I feel that 1st person advocates, including me, should leave 3rd person users alone...let them decide how 3rd should be.

In MMO-like games (yes, DayZ is one, since you care about the development/equipment/stats of your character) I like to see my toon from outside. Enjoying new clothing, to posture with the weapon, for screenshots.

Sure, it's not realistic. But on the other hand in RL you still have more awareness of yourself and your environment than ingame 1stp view can provide. Neither 1st nor 3rd person view provide a 100% realistic body-world-awareness and knowledge.

Some suggestions in which ways 3rdp might be changed:

* the camera should be attached nearer to the body (but still being able to have a full body screenshot)

* the screen may softly fade out (completely black) for a few seconds when you change between 1st and 3rd

* there are NO HUD elements (crosshair, hotbar, weapon info, inventory) available in 3rdp

* the radius to hear player-caused sound effects (not speech, but steps, reloading, eating, gunfire etc) might be reduced to a few metres or disabled at all

* 3rdp prevents shooting, reloading, switching weapon, taking sth, eating and all that -> you should only be able to walk, change stance, jump/get over, look around

This would make players force to think what view mode is the best at the moment without making 3rdp a godmode view that only provides advantages and that you exit only to aim or to use the binocular/scope.

These are just some ideas how 3rd person view might be handled.

only firs person view. Another views - casual ***t

and...?

Many people (including me) play games "casually".

3rd Person view is for the regular servers, more "layed back" gameplay

_______________________________________________________

TBH, I don't understand the whole 3rd- VS 1rst-person-fight.

The players, who want to play DayZ very seriously, who want "fair" and rather intense firefights, can play on Hardcore-servers. Noone is interrupting their fun at all.

But when you play on regular servers, you kinda have to deal with players, who have a different approach to the game then hardcore-players.

DayZ is played by different players. And (sadly or luckily, you decide) casual players dominate the crowd in terms of numbers.

I think trying to force the players to play in a certain way is not a really kind/good approach. DayZ should stay as open/sandbox-like as possible.

(There was a thread a while back with a pretty good suggestion IMO.

when going fthird-person, you only see, what you would see with first-person. So when you try to watch around the corner or over a wall, you will not see the "enemy" (eben though he IS there), because you can't see him with first-person)

* the camera should be attached nearer to the body (but still being able to have a full body screenshot) I don't really like this idea, because you can take landscape-screenshots better with third-person-view and a wide field-of-view.

* the screen may softly fade out (completely black) for a few seconds when you change between 1st and 3rd good idea

* there are NO HUD elements (crosshair, hotbar, weapon info, inventory) available in 3rdp Hm... If there's no crosshair I will just make a small black dot with a marker in the middle of my screen. problem fixes ;)

* the radius to hear player-caused sound effects (not speech, but steps, reloading, eating, gunfire etc) might be reduced to a few metres or disabled at all why?

* 3rdp prevents shooting, reloading, switching weapon, taking sth, eating and all that -> you should only be able to walk, change stance, jump/get over, look around

This would make players force to think what view mode is the best at the moment without making 3rdp a godmode view that only provides advantages and that you exit only to aim or to use the binocular/scope.

I think, I see your thoughts. You want to give third- and first-person-view ad- and dis-advantages?

The problem is that with your suggestion, 3-person-view looses quite some "uses", i.e. having a bigger FoV for landscape- or groupscreenshots, etc.

You see, this is the type of person I hate on the forums. The person who says anyone who plays DayZ casually can go suck on a salty sausage. DayZ is meant to be played many different ways, not just hardcore. There are first person servers for a reason, kiddo.

Heh, typical.

If you have fallen back to insulting me for how long I have been registered on this website, then you have basically admitted you have nothing of substance to throw my way. The fact you're even insulting me at all is childish and immature.

Why not add this to the topic that I started already earlier today instead of making an entirely new topic devoted to possible Third Person View changes? I started a topic this morning about it...why are you making an entirely new topic about the exact same thing?

But as stated before by the devs, if you are looking for a casual game, this is not the thingf or you.... I already think they made it allot easier because of the mass of new players that game with the standalone...

But as stated before by the devs, if you are looking for a casual game, this is not the Thing for you....

I think that's a decision everybody is able to make for him-/herself.

I don't like casual players who "demand" to have all stuff and items like a player who invests a lot of time... but I also don't like the Players who think the game is only for hardcore players (like themself) and the casual gamers are kind of dumb just because they don't want or aren't able to invest more time. (no offense to you, just wanted to say that ;-) )

I understand you, I actually meant the same thing, only with a poor choice of words as I see now. But you are completely correct.

As I recall the inventory contains a fine representation of your player, and you can twist and turn that guy to appreciate whatever piece of clothing or item you choose to decorate him with. In my book that kinds of invalidates the argument for 3pp that mmo players like to see their mannequins, ehm avatars outfit through 3rd person view in order to appreciate the looks or something.

It's more of looking at your character whilst running the long distances. Maybe we've just grown to accustomed to it, but I like looking at my character while I'm running, I'm not doing it to admire myself, just makes it more interesting.

Not really interested in whether you do in order to look at admire yourself or look at yourself running (!?). The point is that if is something you've "just grown accustomed to", it is not something vital to gameplay. It is something you can grow unaccustomed to as well, because 3rd person really has some elements when it comes to a realistic survival game that makes them gamebreaking.

Perhaps you can look at your trousers in the inventory and not break the game, or is looking at your trousers of such importance that you are willing to break the game for that view?

What about mouse controls the head and WASD controls body, using mouse button to aim would snap the body to the head alignment (at slower pace of course). This unfortunately means strafing is removed as you need a and s for body turning.

Nope.  I disagree (although you expresed you don't really care).

The admiration of the 'manequin' is in context with the surroundings and actions taken.  Admiring your character's appearance is just as enjoyable to some as admiring the animations (or critiquing them for arguments sake).  Contrasting your character with scenery and different textures, screen-captures, etc.  If you've ever seen any advertisement, marketing material or Design proof you'd know that the product is put in context with it's surroundings and/or application to make it appear more attractive.

Architectural designs add in trees and a front lawn to make it appear more 'real', car billboards have the car on the road, driving past attractive scenery... beer ads have semi-naked women holding the beer between their soft skin.  The list goes on.  How many trouser ads do you see where the clothes are floating on a white (or translucent black as it may be) backdrop?

I think you're just being facetious though.

You also get a better degree of motion of camera angle than you do in inventory.

So it really doesn't invalidate anything, you just don't seem to agree (or care).

Why not the following approach.

Have the third person camera be semi locked from a front perspective so that you can only see your character and how he looks from the front to back.

Like so.

The-Elder-Scrolls-5-Skyrim4.jpg

When in this mode your mouse only spins the camera and does not allow you to control your character.
