Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

That's why I suggested implementing a mid-range hunting scope. 

A non variable fixed zoom scope would be perfect for alot of these guns.

Maybe 10 months from now they will. Right now the focus is on children bag packs and cattle prods

Electrical melee weapons are a really cool and interesting feature, and the children packs have been in for a long time, so I don't understand where that comment came from. Having a scope isn't really a priority job.

The comment comes from over-abundance of in game items that little or no use at all.

The stun baton and cattle prod are awesome for fighting zombies, and the children's backpack is intended to be a low tier item.

 

Later on in development most useful gear will (probably) be much harder to find so you'll have to rely on lower end stuff for longer periods of time. That, and you could argue that a scope for the lower-end rifles is just as unnecessary when you could simply use a Mosin/SKS/AKM/M4A1 with a magnified optic and be much more effective. I don't think that's a good reason not to include something, but not every single item in the game needs to have a clear advantage over everything else.

Sorry to burst your bubble there but I can cite several 'poor' Eastern European countries that manufacture AR 15s and such, take for example Luvo who are a Czech company. Not only does this company make ARs in the standard 5.56 NATO they also do them in a plethora other calibers including the 7.62x39. Zastava which is a Serbian company produces some Sig clone pistols. FB which is a Polish company is starting to produce something that mightily resembles a SCAR and is in the running to become the new Polish assault rifle. I could of course name other companies from other 'poor Eastern European' countries but I think you get the idea.

It's okay you didn't burst anybody's bubble. I'm not an expert but the likes of Zastava are not state-owned companies, they do produce arms for counties like Serbia however. The fact that some Eastern European arms manufactures produce versions of the AR-15 means absolutely nothing. They are mostly joint-stock companies that produce arms by their own admission for various consumers, whether it be civilian markets or state military services. I'm sure many of these companies probably do license produce Western firearms for various Eastern European armed forces in a limited capacity but I'd say that 'Luvo' probably sells their AR-15s to the civilian market mostly. That's disregarding the fact that an AR-15 isn't exactly an expensive weapon to produce, the SCAR-H is. You also didn't pick up on the fact that I was saying it would be okay if random expensive Western firearms were thrust in to DayZ as long as they were fairly rare. The CDF has already been been shown to use mainly AKs and other Russian weapons in ARMA 2.

To hell with guns. Make the them super-rare.

After that's done, make primitive crafted weapons the main source. All the melee you can think of, along with bows, slingshots, blowguns, etc.

That way, everyone is a damn tribesman, and the person with the gun is god.

The road warrior approach might be interesting for gameplay.

I don't want to play a caveman simulator.

 

Firearms should be the mainstay, low-rent melee/arrow weapons should be - weapons of desperation, and/or, ultra-specific utility (i.e. poor-man's suppressor).
