some geography/map ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so I have some ideas regarding geography that, in no particular order,I think would make the game more interesting, realistic, and better overall.

1: large rivers inland. I think this would be good because it would add more water sources, make boat transportation (once implemented) a bit more practical, and would add another obstacle to go around or cross. should be very hard or impossible to cross by swimming.

2: some large bridges/highways. bridges could span over said rivers, adding areas to cross but also adding good spots for bandits to set up a checkpoint or toll. some bigger highways would be nice too, im talking like around 4 lanes of traffic on each side, these should be filled with abandoned cars and such, also filled with zombies but could connect some of the larger cities with each other.

3: one very large city somewhere. probably could expand cherno or one of those to make it huge. Im thinking so that it would be like a real life larger city, if your in the middle of it you should not be able to see the end of it, there should be that many buildings and roads and such. Also should be filled with zombies, it should be nearly suicide to go here but would obviously have pretty good loot.

4: islands. I know this has already been suggested. Simply bringing it up again, I think its a good idea.

5: will add more if I think of them or if community suggests. Thanks for reading, post any feedback or additional ideas below.

1: Coming soon i think? they are adding Pobeda damn back in the current EXP

2:There is a large highway from Svet to Cherno.

3:Cherno. or the new huge city they are adding

4.Skallisty

Isn't Novo already a huge city? It's bigger than Cherno and Elektro combined. Weird how people still call it a new "town", expectations are too high. For the game's engine, Novo is a huge accomplishment even if it can still be very laggy.

1: great to hear that.

2: there is a larger road. not a highway. ad if it even is a highway, there needs to be several of them that connect the larger cities, but need to be filled with cars and zombies.

3: Cherno, or even Novo, is still very small. compare it to an actual town. by large town, I mean so big that it should take up like 5x the space Novo takes up right now. maybe more. also, the new city they are adding is not even as big as Novo. so its not "huge".

4: more. again u know people have suggested this before, but more islands and farther out, and bigger.

5: I did search. that's where the island idea came from.

Thanks for the feedback, have a good day.

Yeah, i think we need a "proper" river somewhere...maybe going around the map so we can use boats...maybe a canoe..that will be cool... :D

well islands would be useless as of now without boats, and the ArmA island editor which i think they use isnt very good and it would take quite some time to fix/make.

I think people forget, that this map is Chernarus - originally small poor post-soviet country. Adding more and more cities kinda ruins this idea.

I dont even like the new areas (can it be called town when there are only tenement buildings?) like Dubky, Novoselky and Chapaevsk... It fits to Chernarus like fist on your eye...

Not mentioning that the larger city is, the worse fps you have when you are in.

But I like Novod... it's nice city, larger than any other, that still fits to Chernarus image, but don't you dare trying to add any more... If you wanna large cities, then wait for some new maps...

Many suggestions have been made about map enlargement, but I haven't seen many about a large city. If we reference the map of takistan and chernarus, we see that our map right now is only a small chunk of the rest of chernarus. If we look to the far west of chernarus, we see a large Capitol city called Novigrad.

It may take a few months, but I say they expand the map to Novigrad so that we can have a large interesting city instead of all of the boring fields and small towns.

The game is great as it is, but if they are going expand the map north to the black mountains, they should also expand it west to the plains and south west to Novigrad.

Maybe a lake and few modest mountains and running rivers in the west, with a soviet ski resort vibe to it? From the lake (with dam) a sail able river to the south sea.

Or make the south-coast into a larger wide river, with mountains on the south side?

There are lots of 'preppers' thinking about going to the mountains in times of chaos and crises to sit it out, hunt and catch fish in the small rivers. Off cause they'll have a wolf and bear problem :)

Because it's a higher altitude it's colder, and there are fewer villages to loot. It could be an interesting harsh place, a place Dean may actually feel at home at! :D

I get the feeling that there might be one running all the way from Pobeda dam west towards Tisy area, the landscape just looks perfect for one.

Rivers with currents would be interesting.

I really don't want more towns. Especially no more cities. It's getting to the pretty close to the point you couldn't get lost in the woods anymore.

Thicker forests would be nice.

Islans...yes

River...yes

A massive city....nope

The reasons for no big city are...

The ones we have are perfect in size,. the arma 2 and by extension dayz maps seem to have the feel nailed for the setting they going for, imo a big contributing factor to the mods success.

Also as mentioned the wilderness is shrinking very patch....id acvocate removing some towns even at this stage. Maybe if they ditched a few of the old a2 towns it would make the map feel bigger again. I really hate the way I can almost see the next town from the one im standing in.
