KoS Balance / Justice System

Recommended Posts

Thinking about ways to lower the KoS epedimic but still provide balance for PVE and PVPr's.

IDEA - Justice System (could be server switchable option - "Friendly Server")

- Bounty is assigned via the number of kills and the "type" of kills.

- Increased bounty attached to killer for killing lesser geared players (i.e. spawn killers)

- Lower bounty for killing higher geared players

- No bounty attached if you kill someone with a bounty over certain amount.

- Bounty based system with In-Game "store" for "purchasing" gear

- Player names MUST be static and knowable to all players in game and in lobby.

- Player bounty published next to server lobby

- Top 10 Most Wanted List

- Once killed and bounty collected it resets to $0

IDEA - PVP "Hot Zones"

- Specific zones which are marked as PVP hot zones and KoS is allowed without bounty attached

- Players cannot spawn saved game in a PVP hot zone (i.e. Spawn at Airport). Saved games from within hotzone will re-spawn outside zone when re-login

What is this like some type of bounty hunter simulator now?

KoS? Guess What?

deal_with_it_obama.gif

KoS will always happen and there probably will never be a humanity or insanity meter or bar or shit.

Bounties? Really?

THIS IS A Z.A.S.S. (ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE SURVIVAL SIMULATOR) NOT CALL OF DUTY. WE ARENT PLAYING A WAGER MATCH.

THERE WILL NEVER BE A NPC TRADER ZONE UNLESS THEY LET PEOPLE MOD IT.

THAT RUINS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE GAME

IT MAKES IT INTO A WARZ LIKE GAME THAT SUCKS TERRIBLY.

Why KoS is such a butthurt for u? There will always be bandits. ALWAYS. And in-game shop is just stupid.

I've never seen a TL;DR that is longer than the post it's supposed to be abbreviating.

But yeah, no, a justice system and 'pvp hotzones' have been brought up before, and they're horrible ideas.

You should try out Arma 2 mod Chenarus Life. Its the same engine but not in a zombie apoc. It's pretty like cops and robbers, and has all the mechanics for it. In fact there are a quite abit of mods for ARMA 2, that are quite good. DayZ Mod was a super popular one, so popular they made the SA. But theres tons of other ones. The even have a Vietnam one, and I saw someone was working on a WW1 super mod.....there already is a WW2 one...Then theres Iron Front which is a great game.

These ideas you have are not bad, its just not the game for it. In the world of Dayz its a complete break down of goverment, rules, society ect ect. Its a apoc. It should have no rules and completely up to the player to decide how they want to play and how they want survive. Complete game play freedom with no safe zones. It should be complete anarchy. I dont even want to see trading npc's. The whole map should be a pvp hot zone. I also think the spawn points should be all over the map not just the east coast. Leave it up to the player to decide wether they want to be good or bad....or maybe there is no just good or bad anymore...its all grey. This is a post apoc simulator period with perma death and everywhere is a pvp zone. Players must either learn how to survive or get used to being a fresh spawn. Sink or swim.

Kos epedemic LOL hahaha. Welcome to dayz.

Ha !...good luck with your "balancing" the game ideas..the serial killers psychotic "I want an easy game" wannabe professional gamers, CoD rejects and special needs scrubs, are going to keep saying NO to you KoS yourself from the forums with a ban.

Both are terrible ideas in my opinion as they enforce certain playstyles on players. Dedicated "play this way" areas/servers/... reduce the excitement and varieaty of gameplay as you know what to expect. Then an ingame store is terrible as well artificailly giving advantages to players that follow a certain way of playing. The only kind of ingame store should be the one where players decide to set up a trade post and the only kind of currency should be able to be earned ingame and agreed upon by (a group) players who want to participate in trade.

I would like to have the ability to recognise players/characters I met before though so you could set up an ingame justice system. Then you might be able assign a bounty by knowing your targets face and name and being able to draw/write notes announcing the bounty. Sadly three things are missing right now:

  • a fixed name for each character- doesn't need to be unique but should not be changeable
  • a great variety of faces (maybe also body shapes) to make them a suitable way of recognition
  • the ability to draw on surfaces (paper, walls etc.)*

This might as well be player-based instead of character-based but I think a character-based system is enough as it offers more options to players while also being more forgiving (as your sins are purged upon death).

Key is that everything should be set up ingame by players and inside the game dynamics instead of being imposed upon them by artificial mechanics.

*Stop being afraid of people drawing penises already. First - it does not hurt anyone. Second - it takes some effort most of the kids are not willing to take (not asking for importing pictures - everything should be drawn by hand ingame). Third - most people prone to drawing penises should be pretty bad a drawing, making most of their pictures unrecognisable. Four - the possible creation of good drawings outweights the possible creation of bad drawings .Five - allowing this part of culture would actually help the social aspect of the game.

When I here threads that start off like this one....It makes me want to let people know DayZ SA is not the only game or mod out there that use the ARMA2 engine. Let DayZ be.....well DayZ. Its a hard core survivor sim set in a zombie apoc.

I mean this, its not every ones cup of tea. I think people play and like the engine it runs on and imagine other settings it should be in. Well guess what...there's tons of other games and mods out there that run on ARMA 2 engine and now there's super mods poping up for ARMA 3. So if ya don't like DayZ cause it has no rules and takes place in a zombie apoc...give some of the other mods a try and games too. Check out Bohemian.com or Armaholic.com. I say this because I seen threads that get sometimes heated about rules ect ect, When reality is it maybe some people are playing the wrong game, but enjoy the engine.  So really there kind of no need for it.

Because I am a purist when it comes to DayZ SA, I want a post apoc hell hole set in eastern europe, with no rules. I don't want it watered down. When I don't feel like playing in that setting, I simply play another game for a while.

The reason I dig DayZ is the freedom it gives to the player. The beauty is that the game itself doesnt encourage or discourage ANYTHING. You can be a good guy or a sadistic psychopath (hell, I`m in the latter in this game) and the only consequences you face come from your decisions (good or bad ones) and the other players.

If you want to set up bounties that would actually be pretty cool.

You would probably have to find a whitelisted community though and rampant KoS isn't as common in there.

I'm a noob to the entire ARMA "platform" with DAYZ standalone being my first game. You bring up very good points. I just purchased ARMA 3 and will check out the other mods. Thanks!
