Dayz SA vehicle info/feedback

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so I saw in the latest status update that vehicles are being worked on. My question is, how will the physics and such work on these? Will it be GTA like where I can drift and hit jumps and be fine, or more like if I hit a tree going a bit too fast I will die type of deal? I personally would prefer a mix of the 2, a car wreck should obviously hurt/kill you but you should also be able to take some damage and hit some stuff and be fine. Also, how many different types of vehicles do they plan on having? 5? 20? 100? How hard will it be to get a vehicle running? Obviously a heli or small plane should be harder to get running/drive then a small car, but what will be required for these types of things?

Any feedback about these questions or vehicles in general is appreciated, Ive looked around and havnt found too much info but anything you guys can provide is appreciated.

Thanks, and please don't post anything unhelpful or just plain stupid.

Good Questions. I would think the vehicles will behave similar to the mod but more refined and tighter controls/physics.

I have done quite some research and read lots and lots of posts, devblogs, reddit, twitter, etc...And I haven't come across how many types, physics impact, or driving simulation. But I have heard from Rocket that the first vehicle that would be implemented would be a bicycle. Then atv, motorcycles, cars, trucks, etc...We'll have to wait until Wednesday to see.

I just hope they limit the military vehicles and implement more civilian vehicles. I don't want to see a tank rolling around or a fighter jet flying around. Lol

I think nobody can answer you... even the devs. Because, it seems that the vehicles are not being worked on yet.

They said, they was brainstorming on how will be the vehicles. In fact, all the questions you are wondering for... they are wondering about it too at the moment. So when they'll make their choices we will have some info about how will be the things.

"Apart from that we focused on vehicle design. Things like how they will work, from what parts they will consist of, which vehicle models we bring in and other crucial questions were raised and answered."

vehicles will be so cool if they make it so their really customizable, like being able to mount a gunner on the back of a pickup, or when you see a squad car, you'll be able to tell its a squad car because of it being armored up, as i said previously, having some sort of ghetto-welded gunner.

I would hope that they make it nothing like arma 3 and spend as much time as they need getting them right instead a rushing them and having everyone on here complaining about how bad/buggy they are

I think vehicles should be hard to get and maintain but potentially powerful and customizable. I hope there is some effort required to get them working and even more to get them working for a longer period of time. I would not like to see every freshspawn driving around - instead getting a vehicle should be harder than getting geared or simply surviving. It should be worth it/advisable to cooperate with others if you want a vehicle. Now lone wolves should still be able to get and maintain vehicles but it should require effort and taking risks (thats how lone wolving should be in general).

In terms of military vehicles I am completely fine with almost everything - as long as it comes with realistic difficulties. Your tank would be very hard to find, need a lot of stuff to get running, require a whole crew to operate and eat away fuel faster than you can say "crap - we ran dry". Helicopters should be similar but replace the crew with quite difficult controls that would need a skilled pilot.

In short: I want vehicles as medium to high level reward, potentially cooperative.

While I recognise that DayZ is not intended to be a driving sim, I do think the physics and handling need to be somewhat believable. I think skidding/sliding is essential so that it is possible to lose control of the vehicle if, for example, you go from road to grass at high speed.

Crashing into solid objects should cause significant damage to both vehicle and occupants, too. Perhaps seatbelts could be one of the vehicle parts that you can find or fix on the car, and have an effect on your injury level in an accident. In reality they have a huge effect and shouldn't be something that's ignored, in my opinion.

Off-road driving ought to be difficult and slow for unsuitable vehicles like ordinary road cars - in reality fields are very bumpy, making driving at speed pretty damaging to a car even if you don't crash, which you are fairly likely to do because the tyres have very little grip. Weather could also play a part in this, once those features are fleshed out, especially when it comes to going uphill off-road.

Driving is not something that everyone can just do, especially with manual gearboxes (as cars most commonly have in Europe, to my knowledge), and there should be a fair degree of difficulty in learning to do it well.

The handling is way better than any previous Arma.

Its not the handling, its the pure fact that if you hit anything at any speed your car gets wrecked (Great picture btw)
