When are the devs going to allow us to do something about the hacks?

Recommended Posts

My question for the devs is when are you going to allow the server owners to do ANYTHING about the rampant hacks on our servers?  It is getting outrageous.  We have a server in the 100th percentile, ALWAYS maxed out with players.  I have personally seen hackers more times than i can count.  They can teleport you, take your items while you are still alive, run 100 times faster than anyone else, and many other things.

Are you going to do anything about this?  Battleye does nothing to help the hackers that repeatedly join our server and wipe it out.  We need the ability to identify them and ban.  Give us the tools to do this.

Thanks,

Private shards

Thats where YOU pay to stop hacks.

Would the word blackmail be wrong to use?

The whole current setup is a paradise for hackers. They can with almost complete anonymity go rampant as much as their little black hearts desire.

There is no ingame chat. So you are not able to communicate with a possible online server administrator.

But even if there was a chat, there is no name on the person who killed you. I am all for "realism" but not at the cost of fun or protecting hackers.

And even if the above two points were by divine miracle implemented (as in the mod), from what I understand, the admins of servers have terrible tools to work with.

They should be making every effort to minimize hackers. Even if this somewhat compromises Rockets "vision" of "realism".

And it feels like the hacker problem is growing.

When I first started playing this game 6 months ago, I saw a hacker maybe once a month if even that.

These last 2 weeks however, I have died 3 times (in a row) to teleporters. One of which who was invisible while teleporting, killing my entire group while insulting us with his prepubescent, russian accented voice.

I am done playing for now. For now I guess I will just keep an eye on the patch notes and see if anything of god damn worth is added instead of inane items.

Private shards on their own do nothing. You will whitelist ANYONE. There is no evidence available on WHO hacked as long as we can't look into serverlogs.

I have a kind of bad feeling about the private shards.. Ok I admit that some server abuse a lot about the database and loots number etc (cars, custom loadout etc), but I just think that it was a nice opportunity for the admin to customise his own server that he paid for.

For me the privates shards is more for creating a stronger community and indeed avoid easily hacker.

Given the proper tools, good server admins could be the cure to hacking.

But some players seem to be too lazy to take a minute and find the right server. There were plenty of DayZ-mod servers with good websites and forums. One little peek into those forums and you knew if it was server with abusive admins or not. Of course I have seen my fair share of admin abuse and I bet there are more bad admins than there are good ones. But I spent way more time on servers with good admins and it was the best DayZ experience.

My guess would be when they open private hives and when the game is, you know, out of alpha.

Private shards are a feature and thus should be added and tested in alpha. I think we will see private shards implemented very soon. And the game will be in alpha for a quarter to half a year from now on.

My point is that the devs are probably not going to give up much more control of the servers to server owners until they're done with at least the alpha build of the game.

Did you know hackers are able to detect other hackers? They use their radar to get average speeds of people in their bubble. It's easy for them. Begs the question of why a server based system can't do the same. And apparently there's a lot more hackers on servers than we even know. Most of the time they turn off their hacks so to us they look like normal players. You can imagine when the loot economy is centralized and certain items are limited who will end up with those items: Hackers. And what will they do when they find them: sell them.

Battleye is like a virus checker that can detect known viruses. Basically they download known hacks make a signature of the files then try detect them on a players hd/in memory. Most of the bans are just kids who bought hacks. There's people have been running esp/speed-running etc hacks since day one undetected.

Also seeing private shards as the answer is just admitting defeat to hackers imo. Surely the budget is big enough that bi can proactively attack these fucks?
