HELP Crashing to desktop every 5-20 minutes

Recommended Posts

I recently built a new computer to deal with recording and streaming games like DayZ in 45-60 fps. I run the game excellent, 50-60fps in cities and forest, but crash randomly to desktop with the message "DayZ has stopped working" every 5-20 minutes. In game my character ( as described by friends ) runs in a straight line, then at some point begins the logging off animation. If I attempt to log onto the same server after reloading DayZ, my character is frozen and I have to ctrl+alt+delete out of the game and switch servers to become unstuck. This problem persists even when not streaming and while DayZ is the only app running.

I have already tried:

Switching core affinity
Lowering graphics
Balancing graphics
Changing performance modes on OS and GPU
Monitored GPU heat, not overheating
Uninstalling/reinstalling DayZ completely multiple times
Verifying integrity of game cache

My Specs are:

Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I74770K

Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL10D-

CORSAIR AX series AX760 760W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power ...

SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD512BW 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

MSI Z97-G45 Gaming LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

MSI GTX 780Ti GAMING G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

I don't use the forums much so I don't know how to post a photo, but I downloaded GPU-Z to monitor the load put on my card by DayZ and the "GPU Core Clock", "GPU Memory Clock", and "GPU Load" were going through the roof. I'm new to building computers and how they work, so getting to this point has been a great learning experience but I can't figure this one out :I please, any help is appreciated. thanks!

PS this only occurs with DayZ, I have tested Team Fortess 2 in highest graphics, Rust, CS-go, etc.

I know man, this is really frustrating and not fun at all. I have been getting this error since I bought the game, that is 2 weeks ago... There is a great number of players who experience the same problem, but none of the suggested solutions dont seem to work for me as well...

What GPU and CPU temps are you seeing after the games has been running for a few minutes?

Are these the same as you see when running other FPS games?

What your idle temps (after 30 minutes use)?

Are you running any overclocks?

Latest MB and GPU drivers installed?

temps vary from 29C to 42C. very cool considering the amount of graphics I am pulling, especially while recording and streaming simultaneously.  everything but the three "GPU" rules I mentioned stay the same or lower.  idle temp is around 26-29.  no overclocking.  my drivers are all up to date.

So let me get this straight. You run 32-bit Windows on that machine?! What a shame....You know that because of that you won't utilize your 16 gigs of ram right?

32-bit OS are ment to be for systems that have 3 gigs of ram or less. Install a 64-bit OS A.S.A.P.

wasn't aware, like I said I'm new to building my own system. I'm assuming switching to 64-bit now would wipe everything I have downloaded correct? I ran 32 because of compatability, I use OBS to stream and atm it is 32 bit only ( so I think -__- ) if that's the case that is most likely my problem and would explain why my GPU memory goes through the roof when running DayZ. I'd like conformation from some others before switching though. I can easily re-download all my programs if switching OS wipes them

I upgraded my system a few days ago aswell. When I installed my new motherboard (amoung other stuff) I had to do an OS reinstall because of that (driver conflicts, the old windows 7 wouldn't boot up).

When you reinstall Windows 7 (I'm not sure about other OS) you have the option not to wipe your HD clean. It will rename the old Windows and Program files directory as Windows.old. That means you can't boot it up again from the old Windows and all the installed drivers are not usable anymore. It does let you keep all your programs and files though, but you have to reinstall them in order for them to work again. 32-bit only applications will still work in a 64-bit version of Windows. You can install them and they'll be fine. Most games are 32-bit anyways, so that would be silly if they didn't. ;)

Mate, seriously Install a 64-bit version of whatever Windows. Now you shot your PC in the foot with that 32-bit one.

NP that you didn't knew. You can't know everything when you build your own system for the first time. We all learn from our mistakes. :)

Appreciate it a ton! memory usage being limited was my primary culprit, I just wasn't sure how to fix it. I'll update to 64 bit and come back when I'm done to let you know if it fixed it or not :)

Awesome mate, and good luck. I know it is a bit annoying, but in the end you'll be happy trust me.

Don't forget to back-up your saves though, if you have those that are not saved by the Steam cloud. Just a warning. I lost all my Dark Souls 2 saves. :(

32 bit Windows does indeed mean that it can only address and use 3.5 GB of RAM.

Depending what you have running in the background (especially recording/streaming), your system could be running out of available RAM.

With Comodo Security and Chrome running, Windows resource monitor shows 3 GB out of 16 GB in use on my system as I type this...

FIXED! thanks guys. with 64 bit upgrade my levels of GPU memory usage were lowered at least 4x. played for about 30 minutes high settings no crash in Novo. lesson learned, don't use 32 bit on a beast lol

Crash, Crash and Crash again,

     I cant even play now!

I am so aggravated with this game. I've posted up on dayzfeedbacktracker but no reply as of yet.

This game just wont play now. Its been far worse since last patch. It will crash in only a couple minutes!

Vista Ultimate 64-Bit

i7 CPU   920 @ 2.67 GHz

12 G RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTx295

What else you need to know?

Battlefield 4, GW2, COD, WOW all work fine.

"Is their no help for the widows son."
