I searched this up, and didn't find anything, so if this has been suggested before, sorry. So, basically, I think something that would be great to add, would be gun straps. Gun straps would be required for holding a primary weapon over your back. Maybe, maximum two on your back at a time? The melee weapon would go on your hip, as I feel like it should anyway. I don't know if two weapons on your back would be OP or not, it probably would. For the most part, maybe you'd have to find a gun strap, or maybe some guns would spawn with some.

Feel free to say why you do/don't think this would be a good idea!  :D

Yes, I believe that this would be an amazing idea to add. I have thought of this myself aswell because it would work perfectly with how you have to carry your second gun when you already have a gun on your back.

Yes please. Magical floating guns on my back are not cool. They could let us use rope to make one, or find actual ones in barracks.

I'm sure this has been stated by many people, but it's ALWAYS bugged me how you can magically stick a gun/melee weapon on your back

I've personally made a post about this before, and I've seen several posts about it most of the time you'll get whiners responding about how having one gun should be the max. I personally support this idea 100%
Someone PM me is this idea goes anywhere other than a thread full of whiners.

I've always imagined the gun or melee being strapped to my backpack. Whenever I'm a fresh spawn I won't pick up a weapon until I have one, unless its something small that can fit in my pockets Like a knife or screwdriver.

This would be really cool to do

So I'm a fan of the gun-strap or just generally "shoulder strap" idea. I always find it a bit funny with the machete magically attached to my back. I don't really care what mix of two things you use those shoulder straps for. I don't particularly like the idea of people running around with two large firearms but I don't oppose it either and ideally it would be nice if one-day inventory weight was attached to calorie-burn and/or stamina drain. Ultimately you want players to make choices and trade-offs and putting a price on what they choose to carry beyond simple "slots" makes the inventory system as a whole much more dynamic and strategic offering rewards to different play styles.

I wish you could have 2 guns instead of 1 gun and 1 melee weapon, Or have some way to carry more than 1 big gun, make it a rare thing you need (lik the SMERSH Vest)

I was really hoping that sticking a folding stock on my AKM would allow me to fold it and fit it into my hiking backpack....but that doesn't work I guess -might make a thread about that

Craft a gun-strap out of rope?

Yes, but ONLY, if rope-spawns are increased "dramatically". I mean, at least every 2nd or 3rd house shouold have 2-4m of rope somewhere.

Right now, rope is harder to find than a can of soda, for example, even though in reality a house is much more likely to have rope than a can of soda ;)

I always just assumed that guns had straps anyway. The DayZ devs have a real problem with clipping issues (hence why they removed the ability to wear a gasmask with a helmet) and adding straps to weapons would mean there would be clipping issues. I assumed that they just cut out the middle man and introduced an imaginary strap. Hell, I don't even notice it when I have a backpack.

I'd support this if placing a weapon on the ground was reliable. Currently things have a tendency to fall through the floor or just disappear altogether. Until things like that are fixed I see no point in adding straps to weapons - especially since rope is so rare.

As somebody mentioned all weapons are attached as if they have a traditional two point sling. Picture this pic without the actual sling, http://www.ardmoor.co.uk/wso/images/library/rifle-sling-w-double-2.jpg1?view=976

I would love me some slings! And a few other features get some more utility out of them.

Slings serve two purposes. 1) Ease of carrying 2)Supporting/stabilisation during shooting. There more than half a dozen types of slings that come to mind and all serve slightly different purposes, some are used purely for tactical handling at the expense of ease of carry/stability and vice versa. There lots of slings and many ways to use them but to KISS the inclusion of three slings would cover virtually all bases.

Three Slings To Rule Them All!

1) Improvised sling. Rope, cord etc. This sling is designed to allow hands free carry and two shoulder weapon carry. No benefit to aim due to low surface area

2) Traditional wide two point sling. Add the ability like bipod to deploy sling to reduce sway at cost of movement. Refer to prior picture!

3) -edit- ask grindstone for a choice mil spec sling!

Three point mil spec sling. Improved draw speed/weapon ready with ability to deploy sling to reduce sway at cost of movement.

Extra utility

*without a sling you have to carry an object per hand, aiming drops an object or mouse wheel to drop left or right hand item

*slings make player immune to having gun stolen

* +10 to adding more friggin rope

This is an issue faced by most FPS/any game with guns really. Slings are a bugger to animate I guess. It's a lot easier to simple attach like a magnet an object to the body rather than have a dynamic moving object having to bounce around and be effected by motion. When you add a sling the rifle/object has to have separate psychics otherwise it looks silly.

Something to expand on, seeing this sling system being mentioned, we need draw speeds incorporated into inventory.

-Pistol holster should allow you to draw a pistol faster than if it was elsewhere.

vice versa having the pistol in say the your pants should also let you draw it pretty fast, while also keeping it concealed.

Sling wise, you should have faster draw speeds with better slings

+! to trizzo

Yup this has been posted many times before and once again I support the idea of having something hold your weapon on your back vs it just floating magically.

Check sheds and garages, utility spawn locations. I find rope all the time.

Almost nobody uses 3-pt slings anymore. They're terrible. They don't do anything well that a good 2-pt can't do better.

I love the sling and holster ideas. Maybe there could be a way to add a skill level so you can use the 2-pt to stabilize your gun, like it's taught in the Appleseed rifle marksmanship classes.

Standing corrected! Have a specific model in mind? I'm curious to see what you'd run. I don't think a skill level is necessary, dayz puts the tools there and it's assumed knowledge which I like. It's a slippery slope for specific items/actions requiring a perk/skill to perform. Edited by Trizzo

I use a VCAS on my AR. In an East-bloc nation, basic AK nylon web straps are going to be more common. There's also the Mosin sling, which is also often a nylon web, but with a different attachment method. Similarly, the SKS uses a different sling attachment method. I know that may be too nitty-gritty for a video game, but it's something to consider.

what do you think am I doing very often?

I rarely find rope. Some days ago I found 2x PU-scope(pristine!!) in 1 garage, a hacksaw and leather-jacket in the other 2 garages!

(but I already had a sawn off Mosin and leather-jacket, of course).

THAT's my luck :D

gun strap

Yes sir!

The arma2 engine is trying to be realistic and fails at the lack of gunstraps! Instead it uses magic!

Craftable or not. Already at every gun or not. I dont care. Just give me gunstraps!

+1 for gunstraps

You what I just thought? While I do think they would have to make the gun straps semi common, I think that it'd be cool if hey made it to where you could eat or drink and other basic things with your gun still being in your hand, without having to put it up. Maybe for bandaging, since that takes two hands, putting the gun on the ground while you do it could be part of the animation, and the animation would take a second or two more, because you have to put the gun on the ground/pick it up. That could be another reason to get a strap, so that you can do things faster, because otherwise you're doing things with the gun still in your hand.

I use a one-point sling on my service rifle.  Rifle stays at the perfect spot to grab and shoot and doesn't require me to stop what I'm doing and pull a sling over my head so that I can use my rifle.  Only problem:  Weapon moves a lot when running.  Shortening the sling so that the rifle rides higher minimizes this.  For gameplay sake, that part of it could be overlooked.  Especially considering you can have a kitchen knife stuck to the back of your T-shirt...

I support the ability to use slings to decrease sway.  It's taught in basic training and from father to son when being taught how to hunt and fire a rifle.
