Light fire to clothes.

Recommended Posts

Okay so imagine you have a handcuffed person, and you decide a gunshot is too humane for a death, what if you can have say a zippo, and have option to set alight to peoples clothes? So you can burn them right there and then? Thoughts?

This is brilliant.

  • Matches - you should be able to set yourself on fire (and others, especially people who have burlap sacks on their heads).
  • Camp Fires - if you run over them (or if zeds do) they should catch on fire.
  • Portable Stoves - same thing, you should catch on fire.
  • Gas Stations blowing up - should leave some fire and possibly catch people/zeds/animals too close on fire.
  • Corpses - hide seems to game like. You should have to burn them to make them go away permanently.

... but maybe that's going too far? What's the target ESRB rating on this game again anyway?

Well I don't think that burning people is that bad. You can burn in almost every game, e.g.  Skyrim, rated 16. MW2 rated 18. The Forest rated 18 (I guess). And these are just the first games to pop up in my mind. I don't think that a burning patch would ban the game, even in Germany. And if the dev team is going for a 16 rating you don't have to bother with the game anyway anymore.

It certainly wouldn't ban the game, that'd be silly! Sorry for posting this into general discussion by the way guys! Wasn't thinking straight xD

It wouldn't kill them, by far.

The human body is made up by a significant percentage of water. We don't burn all that easily.

And, even if you were to catch their clothes on fire (wool doesn't burn, by the way), they could just do what YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO WHILE ON FIRE.......fall over, roll around and put it out.

Besides, we all know it would be used to grief to no end.

Good idea. This would bring much better scenarios in the game, even in terms of suicide.

The fire might not, but you'll no doubt die from shock if left on fire.

And why shouldn't it be used to grief? it's something that can, and very sadly does, happen.

I would like it if you could start a forest fire, intentional or by accident. Really big ones would probably never happen as

  1. its autumn and might be too wet and cold
  2. it would require too much resources

but in the end having some local fire would be pretty interesting.

Burns, fire as weapon etc. - of course!

I sure hope so, otherwise that would rule out Molotovs.

id jsut hope they fix throwing and make it nicer to know sort of wear it will hit, its hard to wage in a video game.

The fire would have multiple purposes. But here's one that I like, what if the gas stations could become useable, put some gas on the road and light a match and have the player tied to the gas station. Now that's a death worth watching!

Personally i would wait until jerry cans are implemented.

Have the option to soak a person in gasoline then use an ignition source.

Having a person first soaked in gasoline would result in some preety intreasting

social interactions.(begging for life,intimidation,etc)

Yeah that's what I also want.

This would be fantastic. I think the more ways to do it the better. Fire would be great and would not be overused any more than poison already is. What i would like to see though is dismemberment. The ability to take an arm off of your hostage. Though i could really see this being misused as a man with no arms or legs cant kill himself so he would not be able to restart untill you allowed him to die

Burning a dark elf with magic or having a soldier catch fire from an explosion is a little different to setting fire to a bound person. This sounds similar to the cruel and unusual punishment thread somebody set up a while ago that suggested we be able to pull out teeth with pliers, put out eyes and cut off tongues. It's dark and non-conducive to gameplay. Hell, even force feeding bleach is petty grim but at least it isn't graphic.

I thought this was suggesting that we be able to use clothes as fuel, not that we can all pretend to be Vietnamese monks.

Yes, but if their clothes are damp it should be very hard to light them, and if it's soaked it should be near impossible.

But if you have petrol or alcohol >:(

This just would not work with the engine right now imo, I mean would there be a animation for it? If so how long because I'm sure everyone who plays the game would blow their brains out if all you needed to do to set someone on fire and kill them would be to brush past them with some source of flame and if there was an animation how would it work? Could you walk away from it so basically you could only do it to afk players or restrained players thus making it kinda useless apart from the trolling point of view.

Its a cool and realistic idea but the game engine would restrict this from working properly right now

Don't get too close to the fire in 0.49!! (Part of the weather affecting player overhaul.)

Yes, That's right!

According to WOBO, in 0.49 if you stand in a fireplace for 45 seconds you'll die. So just make a fireplace and push your restrained victim into the fire.

I think personally you shouldn't be able to light your captured subject with matches alone, I think you'd first need to douse them in fuel from a jerry can first then light them. As some have pointed out, most living things won't burn instantly when lit with matches so you'd likely need a catalyst, in this case some fuel or even high proof alcohol.

In addition, it opens up a new damage type "Burns". Burn damage itself would depend on the severity, it could hold similar functions to a broken leg or arm if affecting the limbs, it could effect eyesight, stamina (in case of poisoning from toxic fumes) as well as constant pain effects. It could also effect the wearing of certain clothes, causing your character to moan or groan in pain.

First you'd first need to find out what burn you've got then finding the suitable treatment options to heal it. It opens up myriad of medical treating applications that the player could perform.

For example, a first degree burn is easily solved with a damp rag or soaked in cold water. Second degree burns require the same treatment, albeit with purified water to avoid infection or using topical creams. Third degree burns, the most severe require a more specialist treatment, one that is only able to be done with a select amount of equipment on hand.

You could find topical burn ointments in clinics and hospitals, utilize natural flora and fauna, home-made medical remedies and even certain food items (Honey is a great burn treatment)
