1911

That is one tricked out firearm you have there. But I guess Im old school and have an infatuation with the 1911. My perfect build would be the 1911 accompanied with a sawed-off shutgun, you know just in case.

That actually sounds like a pretty terrible loadout to me :d

Would destroy in CQC though!

For me, finding that one item I've been looking for high and low is a harbinger of doom. Found an MP5 mag and on your way to meet your friend with an MP5? Sucked into a hole on a cliff and spat out over the side. Found a flashbang? Suddenly half the server is upon you. Found a CR527 mag? Gunned down in the most desolate part of the map.

Grindstone,

Yup, I agree, harbinger of doom for sure. Every time I get tricked out with good gear something stupid happens and I die. Found and AKM and lots of ammo, hit the forest to check my map so I crouch down and begin reading. Three seconds later a Zed from behind kills me in in one hit! WTF? I'm at the Balota tent city, had to climb a lookout tower because two Zeds were on me and I was bleeding. So I climb the tower to bandage myself up. I'm done bandaging so I get out my Python and start climbing down the ladder...server rubber-banding. I fall of the lookout tower and die. WTF?

Over and over and over and over. Lovely game.

NWAF, I found about 100 of them in the last week and probably 10 75rd drum mags too, as well as multiple AK101 mags and ammo for both.  The 7.62x39 and mags are much more common than the AK101 mags and ammo though, I'd say about a ratio of 10 to 4-ish.  I literally had about 500 rds of 7.62x39 the other day and kept about 2 or 3 30 rd mags and one drum mag, I had a sweet AKM too all pimped out.  All from a few visits to NWAF,  it was crazy.  I've never seen so many mags and ammo, it was ridiculous.

And this is why I can't fucking stand DayZ right now.

The abundance of ammunition once you get to military bases is ridiculous. There is no balance. Players do not have half full or under half full magazines, they have full magazines, and lots of full magazines - But only for their assault rifles. If you dare want to use a weapon such as the Sporter or a pistol, you will be utterly fucked.

.22 LR should be extremely common, the magazines common, and the gun a bit uncommon. Early game, most should be sporting such a rifle, and its sound needs a bit of a buff - I've shot Ruger 10/22's before, they don't just go "ping."

Then, make it so that getting an AKM is hard, but not as hard as getting a modern assault rifle. Make it so that getting military style weapons, fully automatics, is a difficult task that will show you are an experienced player with lots of hours on your character, or that you have taken down a man who had the gun with lighter equipment.

Of course, we'll never get to the point where everyone has not that many rounds to spare. I am unfortunately pessimistic about the future of DayZ in this regard.

That would be nice if not everyone had AKs and M4s and had more melee weapons, handguns and small caliber rifles.  Also, the military areas are hotspots, so youkind of have to be lucky to not get killed there...So there is kind of a balance, but it's external balance by players, not balance in the game....However, I am pretty sure they're just testing spawn points, different loot and their effects on the servers and such...I'm sure the game will be MUCH different endgame or even in beta.

 There is no balance.

Almost as if the focus is on testing new mechanics and content, rather than balancing, which generally comes during Beta.

I know you are correct but historically alpha's have been closed too! If you're asking people to come back week after week and play your alpha in order to test things - some level of playability has to be there or you're plain asking them to work for you ;)

Are you saying the game is unplayable?

Further, this alpha is closed. You have to pay $30 to access it.
