Too late to start playing Dayz Mod?

Recommended Posts

I too am just considering the mod. Can someone give me a brief run down of the mods and which is best to play, I see it's changed quite a bit and I'm not sure which to play or anything.

Not to talk about the Overpoch abomination that is superpopular right now.

Whats wrong w/ Overpoch?

Whats wrong w/ Overpoch?

Has nothing to do with DayZ. It eliminates all crucial gameplay elements that make DayZ what it is.

e.g.

- constant shortage of resources

- planing ahead your next five steps to be successful

- relentless health system

- having and maintaining a vehicle or even a chopper is a huge effort

But people enjoy playing Overpoch, thats fine to me. They just shouldn´t say that they play DayZ, because they don't.

I miss the mod too. It was so beautifully simply.  You geared up and went killing zombies, all the time trying to avoid the COD types, trying to stay alive as long as you could.  I did 180+ days and got shot by a kid sniping fresh spawns from a hill top.  Ah memories.  I loved the early mod.  Now my PC is broken so I can't play and don't know what it's become.

It still is kicking.. a bit. US 434 has a constant 20-30 players at night, But it doesn't have sidechat, which kinda removes anyway to tell someone you're not KOS in time. I just have a problem with 1.8... Srsly, zeds do way to much damage, and I think guns were completely removed from the barracks.. Also with the new bloodbag system and food not regening anymore, it's nearly impossible to get blood to full, and even harder to become a hero. (Neither of these would be a problem if it wasn't for zeds doing 1k a hit)

So basically, it more resembles 2017, except Firestations and Military Tents are still as they used to be.

Btw, has anyone even seen any snipers besides the CZ since the public hive went down?

People like different games but they are all dayz mods and just as valid as each other.  The standalone is a bigger challenge in my view, because you have to tackle so many elements of the environment and life. But let's face it, if you pay for a game then it needs to have detail and staying power.  And the standalone will have.

I liked the fact the mod was easier to play because I didn't have to think too hard. I'd grab an axe, tin of soda and can of beans and then start killing zombies. Bliss!

Also, can we have one conversation where only adults reply and where kids don't post their criticisms of anyone who doesn't happen to have the same opinion?  You do not have tell others they are wrong, to hold an opinion different to theirs.

I personally like how hard the zombies were in 1.8.1.  They've significantly nerfed them in 1.8.2 which you might like.  Not sure what you're saying about removing guns from barracks...I found several guns in the barracks while 1.8.1 was up.  They have adjusted the spawn lock times for buildings so you should notice more loot everywhere in 1.8.2.  Are you aware that cooked foot regenerates blood?  1 rabbit steak regenerates something like 1,000 blood.  Plus, when you're well fed bood is constantly regenerating.  It's far from impossible to get blood to full.  The only reason it was so hard to become a hero in 1.8.2 is because humanity gain for transfusions was glitched, only giving you 25 points instead of 250.  That's been fixed in 1.8.2.  As for blood types and kits, what's keeping you from finding a Czech pack and hitting hospitals to store up on blood bags, transfusion kits, and blood test kits?  O- is a universal donor, so save up as many of those as you can and you'll be well on your way to becoming a hero.  IMO this system is so much better.  It makes it harder for squads to constantly blood bag each other just to boost humanity.

Not sure why you think it's anything like 2017.  I find food and drinks all over the place.  As far as sniper rifles I've looted DMRs, M40A3s, and SVDs both in the barracks and at heli crash sites.

Not really.  Mods like Epoch shouldn't have the name DayZ attached to it.  They are fundamentally different.  It's the same as if you made a mod of Forza that replaced all the cars with tricycles and still called it Forza.  When you mod a game so far that it's a different game it should have an entirely different name.  Look at mods like Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic...nobody says "I'm playing Half-Life" when they're playing CS.

So I've been playing arma 2 for a couple of weeks just to get used to the game and controls before jumping straight into DZ, one problem I've come across is that arma gives me insane head/eye ache the next day, I've never played a game were so much concentration is needed to try and spot dots (people) running around who find it easy enough to see and shoot me.

Pretty sure I'll be complete garbage at DZ and not keen on these headaches, I needed all day in bed yesterday to recover from it and I had only been playing a couple of hours, no other game I play does this to me  :(

Are you playing in first person? If you are turn off head bobbing. Also turn off post processing as well.

I've never gotten headaches nor know of anyone else from the game but I know many who have gotten dizzy and nauseous in first person.

If you don't mind stating your game rig and arma2oa video settings that might help as well.

I play in 3rd person, I've never been able to get used to the limited field of view of 1st person.

Rig is:

i5 2500k @ 4.4ghz

GTX660 Superclocked

Samsung evo 840 250gb SSD

8GB RAM

Dell Ultrasharp LED monitor

I can't remember video settings off hand, but I can remember that running everything on full didn't drop the FPS so I think I settled on quite high settings.

Both last two sessions of play have left me crippled next day, yet I was up most of last night on a different game and I'm fresh as you like today.

Okay if you have everything turned up check to see if post processing is on or off. If it's on turn it off. It places in motion blur and generally lowers frames. The other anti-aliasing features I turn off because my eyes can't tell the difference in 1080p. However it's up to you if you want to keep them on or maxed out or off.

1.8.1 is amazing, its actually a zombie game, hard to get geared, very hard to pvp your better with melee or crossbow etc tbh, its funny to see from distance someone fire a loud weapon at another player in a town and watch the 28 days later style chase and inevitable death.

After months of never or rarely being killed by zeds and being killed even as a new spawn by the cod brigade in other 'mods' since playing 1.8.1 I've been killed by zombies loads and actually met 2 friendlies one even fed us, cant remember the last person I met outside 'trade/safe zones' who didnt kos.

Check out Europa vanilla server guys!

I started playing the mod a year ago. Since then it was always fun to play this game, especially with friends. After playing SA for half a year (and neglecting the mod a bit), i have now returned to my favourite mod server, and It's still amazing! And I think its never too late to get arma2/dayz.

I like both games a lot, but for a lot of different reasons:

Mod:

-The memories! I will never forget the first time I spawned. Dayz brought a completely new feeling with it, i had never experienced this level of immersion. Going to loot a military base in a solo run, on a 100/100 Server, I still am going into "survival mode" (heartbeat, adrenaline)

- with DayZ SA being developed, it's like a safe, convenient haven for me. I like the SA, but the mod is a NEAR completed, polished game, and coming back after starving or glitching to death just feels like home

- gunplay feels more accurate, it's the arcade version of the SA, sometimes, I just want to have a bit of fun and shooting

- atm better framerates for me with the mod.

- global chat (for emergencies)

SA:

- has a darker feel to it

- feels more like a simulation/more mature game

- waaay better graphics and immersion

- complex health and damage system

- I like coming back every once in a while to see whats new... until release:)

- has a lot of potential

Dammit, i love them both.

Tip: Headtracking device makes both games a lot more playable!

Has anybody come to a "battleye installation failed" message every time try to get into dayz?

yeah I had that the other day either keep joining servers till it worked or open operation arrowhead that way if it fails you can just escape and try again eventually it will work. there might be an easier way but that's what I did.

DayZmod is more comprehensive than DayZsa due to the flexibility it contains. But the player-base is not interested in apocalypse survival. DayZmod has become an ugly, gun toting, vehicle harvesting, PvP fest full of military drop-out/wannabes looking for cheap thrills.

There are some servers which can provide a comprehensive and unique survival experience but their voices are drowned out by the militarised servers, therefore struggling to get traction to populate. The shame is that DayZmod can be configured to be a difficult yet rewarding and unique survival game if only the owners were willing to impose restraint.

Either the typical DayZsa player hates Epoch/Overpoch, or the DayZmod player hates survival; there seems to be no common middle ground as most DayZmod servers have become ArmaII with zombies instead of DayZ with building.

In short; if you want a zombie survival game play DayZsa. If you read 'guns n' ammo' play DayZmod.

Well, if you play DayZ mod, I mean pure vanilla DayZ mod, you are playing a zombie survival game. As it is right not it's too hard to play it CoD style.

Yes, it has been that way, but that stopped with the development of Epoch (trading, vehicle ownership, base building) and Overwatch (guns everywhere), where the survival aspects are close to zero.

Since then, the majority of players went there to have fun on PvP, construction, AI missions. Life's easy there. Your belongings are safe within your vaults, your vehicles are locked, the money's on the bank account. The zombies are still there but you can pretty much forget about them. As of today there are much more Epoch/Overwatch/Overpoch servers than DayZ servers.

-> Spawn with an assault rifle, loot a few barracks, sell that stuff, buy a full gear, go on missions or PvP. There are no friendlies (except on PvE-only Epoch, which basically is a construction game)

At the same time, DayZ itself was reduced to the players who want to focus on survival, yet not ruling out the existence of KoS-bandits. Or pure heroes. The patches made it harder but also

more versatile, with crafting close to what you would think of in a real survival situation.

Without thinking about where to get food and water or medical supplies you will pretty soon die of dehydration or infection. Long before you gear up to a ghillie sniper.

-> Play cautiously, outsmart the zombies, use the surroundings, constantly loot to keep your guy healthy, don't die! Then decide to go hero or bandit if you want and can.

Just please do not mix up DayZ and "those fun mods".

If you want a zombie survival game play vanilla DayZ, If you want to have easy fun in the same universe play Overpoch.

I would recommend you try both.
