Dayzo

Clarification please... how do I play now?

Recommended Posts

I've just returned from two weeks vacation, and now I can't join any servers.

My set-up is Arma2 (non-steam) + dayz commander.

I've never had Steam, don't really know what it is, and don't really want it since I'm not a gamer and Dayz is the only game I play.

However, if it is free, easy and painless, I'm willing to install Steam to continue playing Dayz-mod.

My main question is, will I need to re-purchase Arma2 (steam version) now?

Or, can I install Steam and let it update my non-steam Arma2 to version 1.63.125548?

After that, is it as simple as switching over to DayZ Launcher instead of using Dayz Commander?

Thanks for clarifying this for me.

There is no need to re-purchase, you can add the games to Steam if you want to. The button is in the lower left corner of the Steam interface.

As for getting it running, I think using DayZ Launcher should work fine.

All the servers have 'migrated to Steam' because of the GameSpy closure, and DayZComannder have not been updated to work with this.

At least that is my understanding of it, I run the mod though Steam myself.

> What does it say exactly when you join to an server?

All the servers are greyed-out because they are running the latest Arma beta (125548), whereas without Steam, the furthest you can go is 112555.

OK, based on your answer I did more digging and came up with this: http://www.arma2.com/latest-news/activate-non-steam-versions-of-arma-2-on-steam

which seems to confrim what you said about registering my existing game installation with Steam. So I dug out my old Arma download, and found I had

saved the keys in a text file. I guess I'm good to go then!

I'm not really pleased about being forced to install Steam on my computer though. Is the idea that it will further cut piracy and hacking?

What the hell... it isn't registering the existing install with Steam, it wants to install the entire game again as though I purchased it on Steam.

That really sucks.

I've got two serials - one for 'combined operations' and another for 'arrowhead'.

Can someone tell me whether I can just re-install one or the other, or do I have to do both in a certain order?

Thanks.

[EDIT] Too impatient for an answer - I'll just install Arrowhead and see what happens.

You just have to move your arma 2 and arrowhead folders into your steam>steamapps>common folder, but I guess it's too late.

I'm only half way through the first download, but I think I'll keep going, so I get a fresh install with everything in the right place.

I don't know anything about how Steam works, so now is not the time to start trying to hack around with it.

One thing I'm confused about is that the DayZ-Mod page on Steam says it requires BOTH Arma II CO and Arrowhead. I was only going to install Arrowhead.

So am I right in thinking I need to pause the Arrowhead download and install Arma II CO first?

Im in the same boat... dont want to use steam but have no choice atm.

You need ArmA to play Arrowhead so install both. Then copy the mods from your ArmA2 folder (@DayZ etc) to your ArmA2 steam folder (programs 86x > steam > steam apps > common > Arma2).

Then you're good to go.

I know you can use six updater to download mods. There may be a steam function too, I'm not big on steam so I don't know.

If you have downloaded Epoch and Overwatch you should be able to play Overpoch. Both mods are available from a variety of sources.
