New Character Traits

I think that each character that spawns should have some sort of trait such as Doctor, Engineer (for when there are vehicles) blacksmith, ect.  For example, the Doctor would be able to use more medical supplies than other types of players. They could mend broken bones, perform blood transactions ect while other players would only be able to do simple things such as apply bandages or auto injectors. The engineer could modify vehicles and repair them and the blacksmith would be able to mend weapons and attachments.  This would remove the "killing on site" because players might need other traits of people to join their group and help them survive. Please post your ideas or suggestions in the comments.

Engineer would be more useful on firearms these days. Lots of tiny, precisely machined screws, pins and interlocking surfaces. Hell I wouldn't want to work on the Colt Python in game without some sort of knowledge of engineering. Very few people outside of a Colt Factory can fix those properly.

 

Blacksmiths on Bladed weapons and Blunt metals would work.

 

 

However I don't think this system should be introduced, else everyone would stack one job which is superior. Nor will it stop KOS as people KOS for reasons other than needing gear.

I think the community has decided this will be best for a mod (or at least that's how it came across when I suggested a similar concept)

I'm for it but think it'd be best on RP servers as a mod

I kind of like the idea, as random survivors would likely have some sort of specialized skills, whether or not they related to their former profession; and no, it wouldn't completely stop KoS, but it would almost certainly lessen it, because one of the main reasons many people KoS is because you have something they want, and they can do everything they need to themselves, so they're pretty much self-reliant and can lone wolf it, whereas with a system like this, you may be a bit more reliant on other people, causing you to hesitate before just shooting someone. Another reason for a lot of KoS is that people are worried it'll happen to them if they aren't quick enough, so they shoot first. With the chances of KoS for the above reason being lessened, there would be less of a chance that you'll need to defend yourself (but still a chance), and this coupled with the above reason would make people be less on edge and more wary of other people. It is a bit complicated, but if done correctly, could have a lot of potential.

 

I also don't see how one "profession" or skill set would necessarily be superior over any others; yes, in that aspect, one might be better off, but that just means that in other areas they would need more assistance, to balance it out. It would definitely make things tougher for those who want to lone wolf it, but then, IRL, it WOULD be tougher for those people, than for those who band and work together.

Ok, good idea. But lets break this down. If each character spawns with a different trait that means that they are needed. Meaning, a group will not just let somebody in because they are a doctor they can just have their teammate respawn or just choose on startup which trait they want. But, KOS is never going away. But, Like I said Good idea. Needs tweaks to enter the game. But, as this moment with this logic it just wont work they way the OP wants it to.

Good, can't wait for everyone in my team to spawn as an engineer and the only doctors available shoot on sight. But yeah, I'll just run around bleeding out thinking how much better the game is than it was when we could all mend our broken bones ourselves.
