To the guy that taught me how to fish before the server crashed (and my great fishy adventure)

Recommended Posts

So I finally got around to playing the new experimental, wasn't having a particularly great time, lots of rubber banding, new city, new spawn, a bit intimidating, but then I catch a glimpse of a guy running out of the main square. I follow him up, we do the wiggle of peace and, to cut a long story short, he helped me out with the new fires and fishing that's been added, we messed around cutting down trees and then decided to go on a great fish quest. This was a first for me, I'd met few friendlies before, and recently it's been an utter death match on stable, but now we had something to band together for, I found a new admiration for the game, I was having fun through cooperating to survive. It was fast becoming my favourite life yet, we just completed our rod, found a knife and gas stove, and we were about to set off when, what do you know, I lost connection to the host.

I came back on but he was no where to be seen, so, after a while I continued on down the road, determined to, in his memory, complete our quest. I get to the outskirts of the city (I'll refer to it as this as I have no idea what the new northern one is called) and in the office building, bump into two well armed guys, snooping around for loot. Surprised, I shout friendly, and once more found myself having a peaceful conversation with some more fellow survivors, who told me where the sea was, and how to get there without hesitation. By this time, my view on my fellow dayz players was at an all time high, never would I kill when there may be other options again.

Confident in my new discovery, I set out to reach the sea, unaware if the rod would even work there, but with a excitable hope. I trundled along the winding road, eyes peeled for more wildlife, content and enjoying my playthrough. It all changed when I hit the coast. I arrived at a train station, it too was new and too quiet. I proceed forth into more undiscovered territory, finding gun spawns looted and ammo sparse. Gun raised, I carefully weaved through the town, avoiding the watchtower of the police station, skirting back roads, until the sea was finally in view. Naively, giddy with thought of fish, I charged down the road, falling across a dead body. Stunned, I planted in position raising my gun, scanning the surroundings for shooters, backing up until instantaneously being blown into a small lump of flesh.

You are dead. Yes but, oddly, happy.

Sure, I was so close to the end and it was robbed from me, but it was the most fun I've ever had on the game, tense, fun, mysterious, forced together. If this can just carry over into the stable, I would be beyond happy. This update will change the game immeasurably, and it will full heatedly change the way I play it. So thank you to the guy that helped me fish, hope I see you around again soon! And may the fish quest continue...

just curious, when you fall, what does it look like? my toon just stops in the upright position, like he doesn't know how to step over something. I'm guessing you have an option set to 'enable falls'.

Fishing in DayZ?
What does that mean?

Sitting at the shore and wait for a fish.

And then - all of a sudden - YOU ARE DEAD!

Are you really sure that fishing is going to be a good idea with all the bandits and KOSing guys?

Shhhhhh! While they are trying to fish other people will try to fish them. XD

But for real, once the novelty of fishing wears off the majority of people will just go back to the most efficient means of getting food (e.g. finding it is cans, shooting an animal) then get back to the deathmatch.

Fishing in the sea .. didnt they add carp as the fish? If so you would need to head to a pond.

Not if we kill all the fishermen! Mwahaha...I didn't even get to the sea before I got shot!

Well hopefully, the intent of the devs will be to make food cans rare down the road so people will be more inclined to fishing/hunting. I agree, as of rifht now, the novelty soon fades and it's much more efficient to just find a few cans of food in a nearby house.
