Running speed depending on clothing and equipment

Hi,

 

What about the idea that the maximum (or general) running speed is depending on the cloth and the ammount of equipment?

- Sport shoes, running shorts, t-shirts, etc. could improve the running speed

- All the equipment has a certain weight, and the character gets slower depending on the carried weight

- Rubber boots are also not good for running, so they should slow down too

- The bigger the backpacks get the slower you can run

 

All these things are just my personal experience from the real world, so they would give the game a more realistic touch and make the choice of equipment different.

Pretty sure that's the plan, been suggested before but just about everything has.

I actually hope that's NOT the plan, the map is FREAKING HUGE, and just running it is a pain. Why make it more difficult for geared up players to run accross?

To strike a balance between a lot of equipment and slower speed/tire easier or lighter equipment with better speed/range. This way it could be easier to assign roles when playing with friends also.

Additionally vehicles are coming up, which makes running speed in the late game (when you have lots of stuff) less important.

Honestly I think you guys are confused. This game is fun because it is A challenge, not because it's realistic. I want it to continue being a challenge not realistic. Vehicles just will end up being for the elite people on the servers. And most likely a deathtrap which will make everyone aggro you.

It might be interesting if your running speed OR your running endurance depended on how heavy your gear was

So if everyone had the same sprint speed (to keep it simple), the one with the heaviest pack would have to slow down first

- For instance:

Suppose a group of 3 were being chased by zombies. The one carrying most weight would slow down before the other 2

So they would either have to leave him, or wait for him and help him fight the zombs.

 

Or, as you suggest, your top speed depends on how much weight you carry.

This would have the same effect on a group

Look at that does that look like its realistic....

 

Movement speed needs to drop, to atleast half the speed that is currently in game, we need a stamina system, and we need the gear we have on to affect movement speed.

 

Biggest problem is the responsiveness of the strafing, you can zig zag like a proffesional athlete there is no sense of weight.

This is a must in the game at some point. 180km2 would really feel something. Also you would need to think how you handle zombies because if you've tired yourself too much before you can't run away from them unless you drop your stuff but even then outrunning could be a problem if you've tired yourself too much. Way more tactical and survival feeling.

 

Too bad that the inventory system isn't designed well for this system so we can't go for ridiculous equipment but only able to walk slowly. It would be cool to carry 1000 pens in your backpack just because why not :D Arma 3 does the inventory better in that manner.

Yeah, if there's a stamina system and the carried weight would have an impact on stamina, that would be so awesome.

 

It also gives players that just spawned an advatange to players wo are already fully equipped because they can run away from them easier.

Another bonus of a stamina system is the fact that it would balance LMGs and heavy weapons in the game.

 

Weight would be important in what type of role as a player you want to do.

That could be really awesome, you could either be like a heavy player, fully equipped with very good weapons and stuff like this or go more into the fast moving scount direction, with weaker weapons and less equipment but more agility in total.
