Suggestion 3 is my favourite, jt means you can carry mags.

But you cannot carry anything like an ammo box.

Keep the slots the same as you could easily fit a 20, 30 or 40 round mag in the pockets IRL but just make it impossible to put certain items in it.. like an ammo box or protector case...simples.

NexVentor, I would agree with you, but a lot of Beginners wouldn't understand why they can't place there protector case in the slots, and my third suggestion basically does that and offers a explanation.

The game has not and should not cater for noobs and it's hardly rocket science. Your third suggestion is not appropriate because it makes it impossible to put any mags over 10 in the vest... which is (a) not realistic and (b) just silly considering thats exactly what those pockets are designed for.

The moment we start doing or not doing things in this game because of noobs is the day I start considering uninstalling

Wait, I think you have looked at 3 wrong.

NexVentor, don't interpret this as aggression, but I confused by your statement, maybe I am misinformed, but what do you mean when you say "makes it impossible to put any mags over 10 in the vest". Do you mean 10 rounds, because unless its changed, every magazine in the game fits in a 1x2 space (http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Ammunition). My third suggestion, "The UK assault vest would be 4 separate 1x2 grids.", You can see this in the example Image.

Lastly I also believe that beginner players shouldn't dictate what is not put into the game, but I also believe they shouldn't be confused if its unnecessary. I was simply stating that my suggestion was both, to add realism and at the same time not confuse other players. If I have somehow been mislead, please correct me or offer constructive criticism.

No I apologise I did read your 3rd option wrong, thats what you get for speed reading while playing lol. I have no problem with that.

Love the third suggestion! But I also think certain items should be able to be stacked. A single socket should be able to hold 2-3 mags IRL, so should the one in the game.

I think they do need some specialised pocket specific things like this.

You should be able to put two mags in Assault vest pockets or one dual/ coupled mag, two pistols in two separate 1x2 pockets of pants like jeans.

Maybe there could be special hidden pockets, much like the pistol holster one but for something like a walkie talkie/ radio to fit on the side.

Thank you for your feedback 'The End.'

I agree stacking Magazines may not be a bad Idea, although I am not so convinced when it comes to balancing. A player could carry 8-12 magazines in a single piece of clothing personally I think that is a little 'over the top', however I personally trust the dev team will find a good balance between Realism and Practicality. Notice how I did not suggest to alter the amount of slots, this is because that is a suggestion suited to another topic, although I see your point.

I think balance should be kept to how often you have things spawning.

People can already carry several thousand M4 rounds.

It would just realistically save you a lot of room in other places having the correct sort of gear, and I would like to see a bit of balance coming from player speed and fatigue depending on how much they're carrying.

I like your post OP but I'm almost positive rocket said he can't implement it, because everything is already based on the present size model.

Thanks for your feedback teapot! I am curious when rocket said that, if its not a hassle, could you please link me? I am not sure how rocket's comment affects my idea anyway, considering I am not suggesting to alter the amount of slots or to change it significantly, but rather asking if certain items could not be placed in the UK assault vest, and I suggest ways in which this could be implemented, if you have any other suggestions that you think may solve this petty issue of mine, then please share! Lastly another reason I suggest this, is to reduce the total rounds a player can carry, by limiting there ability to store ammunition in boxes within the vest, everything else stays the same, the only change is items of 2x1 or 2x2 cannot be placed into the slots(suggestion 3 - this applies to).

I'm pretty sure this is it. Rocket is rocket2guns in red.

Great post akafugitive, I like your idea of realism, however I would some what disagree with the amount of slots provided in your images, this is only a personal preference. In the second image, are the pouches 2x5 grids, and are only magazines allowed to be placed into them? With all that said, I don't feel we can comment too much on balancing considering the game is still in alpha, and the full plans have not been released to us. As a personal game developer, after showing basic versions of my games to my friends I often have comments like "The Boss Battle was to easy!", even though I am yet to implement features, my friends say "Just buff the boss up!" I therefore conclude that its too early for us to really be debating balancing but never less I still don't like the idea of carrying thousands and thousands of rounds as I mention in my own post "The Reduction Case of Overstocked Rounds".

I'm thinking more along the lines of each item and pouch gets an assigned width value, if the pouches value is lower then the items value then the item wont fit.

eg: Mag has assigned value of 4, mag pouch has a value of 4, so it fits. Canteen has a value of 6, mag pouch has a value of 4, doen't fit.

yeah they are 2x5 so 10,20,30,40 round mags all have a different size(grid length)

Thanks teapot! I read the article and rocket was suggesting something similar to what NexVentor suggested earlier in this topic. Rocket sort of addresses my idea, but in a broader range, I would be curious to see the Dev Team's response to this topic :).

Perhaps a later implementation?

I like pretty much everyone's ideas when it comes to pocket types and sizes. I play a lot of jagged alliance 2 1.13, which has an insane amount of gun and tactical porn and I love it's complexity and the game-play that it creates from it. All these ideas remind me of that system.

However the current inventory and item system we have is such an improvement over the mods that everyone had to make do with I'm happy either way.

I know rocket reads Reddit more than these forums (expected) so if you need help up-voting it on there I'd be more than happy helping the idea get the attention it deserves, as I'm sure most would on here if you linked the post.

If we were to take realism in reguards to LBV like the UK assault version, then each mag pouch should hold TWO magazines, instead of one, allowing the owner to carry a total of EIGHT magazines. Also people using mag pouches in real life also use them to hold other items with similar shape, like a radio
