Procedurally Generated Maps for DayZ.

Recommended Posts

Didn't see this in the search function, but Im sure it's been suggested in the past, so sorry if you have seen this idea before.

I know Chernarus like the back of my hand and it would be so nice to have the map randomly generated once a week or moth or whatever, could be an admin controlled thing, I dunno.

I just think that in a syrvival game the feeling of not knowing is important and precedurally generated maps would make DayZ freakin amazing IMO.

Maybe it can be a mod down the road, but if it was an option in the actual game I think it would keep DayZ fresh for a lot longer than it already will be.

I mean Chernarus isn't very varied in terms of the landscape so I could see this working.

This obviously isn't a priority but it's just an idea I had and wanted to put it out there.

Again, this is just an idea so don't get all defensive if you don't like it.

In the game it will not change, Chernarus is the map. However when the mod tools are handed over after completion of the game you can bet there will be some other maps made.

The detail in Chernarus is pretty stunning, I don't know if a procedurally generated map could exude that level of detail, I could be wrong.

With modding I'm sure we'll see other maps/locations which is one good thing that modding will bring.

im 99.9% sure this wont happen.

however there will be more variety once the game reaches 'beta' and some day eventually full release

Come back in 5 years when procedurally generated worlds, with the detail of Chernarus, are commonplace.

Cant wait.

I agree, it wouldn't have the same feel of care and detail, but it would keep things fresh.

If something like this happens it would most likely be a mod for sure.

It would just be so nice to not know where to go in DayZ again.
