Soda Can Supressor

Recommended Posts

A potatoe inside of a water bottle, now that we actually have both them items in the game...

stuck on the end of a barrel would not be unrealistic, especially for the 10/22 sporter  ;)

So you want to shoot the .22 through an obstacle and still be able to hit your target with enough force?

I actually have shot through patatoes with a .22

so I do know how easy it really is,to not only aim but to use

I find it hard to believe nobody else has never done this before lol

Pataoes are mostl;y water,so you think you would stand in the way because it makes the bullet week > lol

or that I could not aim.... lol

and for those that think suppressors only work in hollywood movies.... not silent but they do work in RL

and that houses do not muffle rifle shots but do muffle handgun shots....come on really...

Take most from on this forum, throw them in the woods and then go fire some shots off

I am sure most wood not have a clue which way the shots come from, unless being shot at!

most shots in a city sound like back fire from a vehicle and not a gun,and it is hard telling which direction

and it has nothing to do with ambient noise ,and more to do with deflection of sound!

Oh well, like most threads anyone starts around here they usually just go down hill with sarcastic remarks made by those that think they know all :D

So....and where would that be documented?

While it will makes the shot itself unhearable beyond 50-100m the bullet itself is audible and if you know how supersonic shockwaves work you will have a general direction of where the shooter is. The thing that tells you away the most inside those 50-100 meters is still the report from a gun even if it is muffled and of course the action of the gun be it automatic or bolt action ( they still make a distinctive noise ) and if you happen to be in a DayZ environment lacking any mechanical noise ( no cars for now, no working machines, no background noise caused by human civilization etc. ) where the only things you hear are grunting zeds and the report of a gun it can only be latter.

Hence why sub-sonic rounds were made so there's no "crack"

How the fudge does one get a potato to fit inside a water bottle? BTW this looks hilarious, almost as funny as a coka cola on the end of a rifle lol.

Sounds good to me. The more jury-rigged and makeshift items the better. I shouldn't be forced to find military-grade items to fulfill roles that other items can fill - albeit less effectively.

Thats weird, I got no results when I searched it. Guess I was typing too specifically lol... Oh well :D

just rely on the community to rub it under your nose :D

search is a vain, capricious goddess, gifting her grace unpredictably to some, and mischieviously denying it to others....

my dad used a pringle can as a silencer

he used the styrofoam wrapping on apples to coat the inside of it,and filled it with all sorts of shit

all you hear is the mechanics of the weapon

No, makeshit suppressors won't fulfil the role at all. There are some things you can jury rig, and a suppressor is not one of them. A gunshot? We're talking about a bloody explosion in a tube, creating multiple types of sound [supersonic sound and muzzle blast mostly] that aren't something like the noise of a cough you can just stifle. Suppressors are full of complicated ridges called baffles specifically designed to lower the sound that will inevitably follow the path of the bullet. Potatoes or rags in a bottle did not evolve/be created to muffle the sound.

Tested "silencers" have been known at best to drop the noise from a bullet from 160 decibels to 130 decibels, usually 145. Chainsaws, rock concerts,  pneumatic drills, small firecrackers, and ambulance sirens are rated at 100 to 140 dB.

Which means that a bottle suppressor isn't even able to make your weapon quieter than an ambulance siren, so there's no point adding them. That's not just "less effectively", that's useless.

Or this, if you don't believe me. https://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090309080816AA1N4lQ

What about videos where somebody has put a bottle and a potato on the end of a rifle? Seems quieter then. Even if it's just for .22 rifles, since I can't imagine that an AS50 would be effectively suppressed with a potato.

I am now calling for a potato gun. We need this in game lol. We could craft it from a butane canister and a pipe lololol. Look out bandits here I come!
