Let's talk about the Long Range Scope.

had one in my bag, game decided to punish me by kicking me off a ledge after I clicked on a ladder...  not bitter, much... :).

 

  Mind you, finally found a mosin to later put a scope onto.. :).

Uhh no... on a LRS the lens is not cracked and the accuracy is off.

The other scopes, ACOG, Redots, and PU will be cracked, but accuracy will be fine.

I honestly don't think this is true... I've found approximately five LR scopes during my DayZ career. One pristine, the others damaged/badly damaged and one was ruined because i looted it off a guy I shot. The accuracy seems fine on all of them.

LRS encourage a playstyle that is crazy OP at the moment.

As soon as I get one and Mosin, I'm averaging 20 kills until I get bored and try to CQB with a pistol and eventually die.

There is currently no counter to a sniper right now, except for another sniper.

 

I agree that snipers are OP atm. However, making an item really rare is what makes them OP. If there were more LRS, then more people would have the "only counter" to a sniper, making snipers less OP.

Brilliant idea. Don't address the fundamental flaw in having a railgun in game. Just have more of them.

 

This clown obviously never played the mod with AS 50s raining from the sky.

 

The less options for cowardly long range combat in the SA the better. Make people actually have to risk their gear and character if they want to engage another person.

Sorry, I didn't accurately get my point across.

 

I'm not saying the solution to a problem is more of the problem. I agree it should be rare. However, if it's too rare, which many people believe it is, then when one person finds it, that makes them God in a sense. As the other post said, he gets 20 kills before he gets bored. Now, if there were a couple more spawns on the map, maybe 1/3rd more, then he'd have a more definitive counter and greater chance of dying, thus not making him God.

 

Also, a sniper scope is a sniper scope. The only way to nerf it is by making it less accurate, which defeats the purpose of it being a sniper scope. This isn't a problem that can be handled by nerfing, since it would be rendered useless.

 

The game is in Alpha and people are just voicing some ideas. The point of Alpha is it's a testing stage. I'm sorry you feel the need to throw insults out there to a harmless suggestion.

Having 250 hours in DayZ I've figured that in a squad , the sniper is the most vulnerable player.

 

The sniper sure , he is hiding and can kill from far, however the mosin does A LOT of noise , it's easy to pinpoint where someones at after they shot , specially if they change positions every time they shoot, if you are nearby you see him when he gets up to change position.

 

I have about 40 hours of actual fire fights between my squad and enemy squads and I've figured that most sniper spots are WELL-KNOWN which makes it extremely hard for you to snipe anyone without getting killed on high pop servers, either because you go to a "bad" spot where its hard to find but also got little to no vision or go to a known sniping spot where you have vision and risk getting flanked and killed and as such have your squad die on you if the enemy has a sniper that wasn't killed.

 

Sure snipers can be op against newer players but against veterans, thats not the case, at least from my experience.

 

Don't miss my post its probably the best reason why sniping aint op

LRS is pretty uncommon in stable.

 

"snipers" need the LRS.

 

they are terrible shot's with it, imagine them without it?

 

count the rounds and close the distance = sniper respawn

 

i also leave LRS's in the open as bait.

I haven't been on Stable for several weeks, but with all the maintenance and downtime this weekend to Experimental I've been back on. 

 

I was finding LRS spawns fairly regularly on Experimental but isn't spawning on Stable at all or hardly at all. 

 

Any of y'all seeing them regularly playing on Stable branch?

It should be rare it's a variable power scope with high magnification. From the model it looks like it is a night force brand scope. 2k dollar plus scopes don't grow on trees.

Now a fixed power 10x mildot hunting scope that should be relatively common a good 10x fixed mildot scope such as the swfa as scope cost 300 dollars. I bought mine for 180 from a guy on Craigslist.
