Locking down Player Names

 As my first post I've done some searching but could not find a post about this here so here it goes. Something I've found troubling is that there is nothing to stop a player from choosing a name "Black Hoe" go total Bandit on everyone, then change his name to "Steve Joe" befriend a player, be happy go lucky with a player and go collecting with them them and later execute there there gear. Then of course change his name to "Faggot Rapist" (all names I've seen used in game).

 What I and others would indeed like to see is once you have chosen your name, be given ONE chance to make sure you have selected your name that you will be stuck with in game for the rest of the game. THIS will be your character name.

 If "Black Hoe" and "Faggot Rapist" wish to run around and be total A-holes now in Alpha that's fine but let there name and actions speak loudly for them too when the game goes live also. 

 This suggestion has nothing to do with the game being in Alpha , glitches, missing items, graphics or the like but the community to which is developing in the game and those who use this feature to change there name to further hide there name and actions. Having your name locked to your account is by no means a punishment after all we all have characters in every single online game that locked down.         Why not this one?

You have posted this in the suggestion area of the mod, which is not going to happen, as it's rather impossible to do anyway. Did you mean to post it for the Standalone?

 

If so, we somewhat had that at the beginning, where it was simply grabbing your Steam-name, which I actually liked, but that has changed now so you can chose your name.

hrm in a real world scenario I can tell you my name is anything and I can use a different name with every person I encounter - of course in a real world scenario I am an individual by appearance so I can be identified by how I look but I can also attempt to wear a disguise and change my look as much as possible with whats available. just a couple of things to consider based on "realism".

 

on a side note it would be nice if there were some identifier that you could allow for the sake of clans and such.

For the game's sake It's acceptable to have to stick to a name for a life. It's technically possible and it's only abused by a minority and shouldn't disturb the normal players.

The downside to static names is you can't start out fresh if you get a reputation, good or bad. You'd have to change servers and hope you don't run into anyone who knew you before if you want to start over from scratch and try something new. It would stop people constantly changing their name so they can keep hoodwinking the same people, but if you make it that easy to be taken a fool you're doing something wrong.

 For the mod-side, could your pid# be associated with the name when the character if first created on a particular-server and 'locked' so no-matter what name you've chosen-since, it'll change to the 'original' while that character is 'alive' for that particular server?
