Flintlock musket

Recommended Posts

Volley fire into the ranks of the zombies ftw.

Thats an awsome mental image....say ten survivors in 2 lines of 5, Maybe it could be recreated with mosins, just have everyone chamber one round at a time as they crouch and let the second line through :D

It would be even cooler with double-barrels.

Can someone point me to the specs for modelling weapons for DayZ (are they the same as ARMA?)

Thanks.  I have the tools, I just need to know things like how many polygons, texture specs, LOD, collision models needed? etc.

Quite a few gun enthusiasts still load and fire weapons like this in real life.

It wouldn't be unusual for this to be the case in chernarus.

It also wouldn't be unusual for us to gather around the body of one of these enthusiasts and laugh at him as the gleam in his eyes faded to a dull shine.

You're right.  That's the game.  (And we all know that guys carrying M4's or Mosins or Magnums don't get killed all day every day  :D  )

People laugh at the idea of a flintlock but they find perfectly normal for the game to spawn day after day guns that nobody can build anymore (after the outbreak that is)

People can't build flintlocks either.

Well, they could, but it would look more "old piece of pipe" than "Brown Bess".

Yeah but "old piper" would work fine to splatter your neighbor's brain on the floor.

Ya honestly I don't think we should be putting guns into the game solely based on effectiveness , but although this rife would be a very UNIQUE choice I do have to agree that this should be a weapon reserved for a dayz standalone MOD .

Simply because we all know that only a certain amount of items / guns can fit into the database , so I love the creative idea and believe me I was all for it before GEWS schooled all of us on rifle knowledge again , but when I do think of how troublesome it would be I just say to myself : "we'd probly be better off with and even older 'firearm' , the bow and arrow" =).

I would love muzzle loaders, they should become common while other weapons will become slightly rarer. Paper (easy to find or rip a page out of a book), black powder and a ball will craft cartridges. Something like a baker rifle, but russian ofc. sorry for bumping an old thread but I didn't want to open a new one

While I would like to see a black powder weapon or two added, this is just a bit ridiculous, bordering on trolling even.  To say a flintlock is the end-all do-all of post apocalyptic firearms because it's slightly easier to make ammo and powder for it without power tools than it would be to manufacture say a 7.62x39 cartridge?  How do you plan on finding the ingredients for powder?  You gonna find an untapped surface deposit of said minerals?

Power can be restored, generators can be jury rigged from different things.  Fuel can be made from renewable resources.  We can find a way to bounce back, zombies are only a temporary setback.  But please, don't be one of those that think we can find one of these just laying around Devil's castle,

when we'd be lucky if we found this,

I think if an apocalyptic event happened today guns would still end up being the most major use weapons, and there would be a large shift to use of melee weapons as well as some antiquated forms of weaponry such as bows/crossbows for those who can use them.

Granted, after a while you'd probably see the amount of guns get smaller and smaller before any civilization was able to be restored, and more maintenance demanding guns would disappear, but you'd still have plenty of people using reliable weapons ala the AK rifles, or even AR-15s (though don't expect most of your fancy gadgets to last forever).

Gun use would then have a resurgence as people started to manufacture their own brass casing and gunpowder. A lot of these would probably start being more improvised firearms or guns built on older parts rather than by this point ancient modern firearms but that wouldn't mean people would trade in their accuracy for smoothbore barrels.

Besides that, a few old black powder firearms actually would not be a bad thing. Hell, they could add some antique mid/late 1800s "muskets" (by that point mostly rifled guns) as long as they were appropriately rare and only existed for variety. I myself would like a modern muzzleloader added to the game, something that's sort of a "LongHorn's big brother" that is powerful and has range at the cost of being a one shot firearm.
